The throw rug runner option for us as well. This way we only clean what is needed. Found a new step rug that has large cleats (Ruggids). Keeps a lot more dirt outside.
Thanks.... a lot of good input. I am going to rethink this idea. I agree that the flooring is a lot easier to clean. I had not considered the 'dog factor'. I was just thinking about the warmer floor / feet as fall is coming on.

I bought a leftover piece of low pile carpet from Lowes for around $30. Cut it to fit our entire floor except the bathroom. It has been down for three years and we love it. DW will run the sweeper a couple of times a year. No problems with spills from the grandkids. By the way, we camp about 50 to 60 days a year at least.
