I just finished installing my CB without any issues. It does not have an external speaker yet so the sound is coming out of the actual CB. However, when I go to transmit, it comes through my truck's speakers and it is NOT hooked up to my stereo in any way. Thus, I get a lot of feedback. Is there a filter or something I can get to prevent this? Thanks, Brendan

Try grounding the power to the CB directly to the battery negative post. Also you want your CB antennea away from the FM antennea as well.

Have you used the existing combination am/fm/cb radio antenna? This WILL cause bleeding into am/fm radios

I have two separate CB antennas on my headache rack which is about 8 feet from the am/fm antenna. I will try grounding directly to the battery. However, wouldn't grounding directly to the chassis accomplish the same thing since the negative grounds to the Chassis?

I have had CB's in my vehicle's for about 30 years and found it best to wire them directly to the +/- post of a battery. Just have to remember to turn it off at the CB. You can always just use a test ground wire to check it out before running a permanent neater wire....

That is going to be a problem because when I drink and drive, I forget to turn stuff off... JUST KIDDING. I will run a test ground wire first and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks guys. Brendan

The long speaker wires act as antenna.. It is possible to put brute force filters in the speaker lines, at the radio, or power amplifier, to fliter out the RF and hopefully cut down on the interference.

For more information on how to do this go to

http://www.arrl.org click on the shop or store button and navigate your way to books on interference... That's where I learned to do it and frankly.. I'd rather not try to explain it since it's a multi step proceduire.. You keep trying till it works.

I will however give you step one.

Pick up what is called a torroid core. Now, this may be an actual round core, (Washer shapped) or it may be a square or retangle.. and some of them are "Split" so you can open them up.. that's the one you want... There are several kinds and the books will explain them better than I can.

Wrap the speaker wires through one of these five or 10 times and close it up. Tape over the latch (The ones I have tend to come apart less you wrap 'em good with tape) and see if that helps. NOTE too many turns may affect high frequency audio.. However I don't think you will get there.

NOTE: you want this thing as close to the electronics as you can get it (If you have a power amplifier than work at it's output, else the radio's output)

That was it, the ground! After I ran it directly to the battery (ground), everything got quiet. Thanks to everyone for their posts.
