We never travel in the winter - yet. Just too many issues to take care of re: the house, the cats (who don't travel with us), etc. The TT is awaiting its winter cover as I write, and will be in place until May.
Hope you at least get some good shorter getaways this winter!

The issues have to be in the "etc", unless you have a lot of cats ... then what do you do in the summer? The major of snowbirds by definition have houses somewhere in cold country and many (including us) takes pets with. Our cat travels just fine and is actually more sociable in the motorhome. Sits in the front window when parked and acts like he owns the place. Sorry you fulltimers, your not snowbirds.

Have been snowbirding since 04 and this will be the first year we may be required to stay home due to wifes parents health issues. They need us so it's simple, we stay.

It seems odd that no one used the economy as an excuse for not snow birding. We have been doing it for many years and have been fortunate not to have missed any. We have had a couple of required trips back for deaths in the families but we were able to return. The economy did faction into decisions by friends.

mtnman,
We have a set up with the utility companies that if a tenant does not pay or cuts off the utilities they are automatically put back into our name, we are notified and service is not interupted. Most utilities have an agreement you can sign and it helps keep the houses from being damaged due to cold weather.

I would just feel better if there was a person to go to the house and turn off the water, turn off the water heater, drain the lines, set the thermostat, check on things and secure the house.
I talk to my nephew over the weekend and he agreed to help me out.
We are going somewhere even if its is just short 4 week runs back and forth to Florida. We have family in Charleston and Columbia, SC and we can go down there as well. I will not sit here and feed wood to this woodstove all winter in these cold NC mountains.
I mainly wanted to hear from some others about why they can't snowbird.

The first thing that comes to mind is, they are trying to avoid the crowds?
