My papa (grand dad - born in the late 1800's) used a half pint of white liquor and a few sticks of peppermint candy dissolved in it (until it was a syrup texture) as a cough syrup. I can recall when I was a little kid trying very hard not to cough because that was a nasty taste. It worked however.

All my life I always heard that if you sneak up behind someone with the hiccups and poke your fingers in their ribs and yell "Boo".. it will stop their hiccups..

I have never seen that remedy work on the hiccups..... HOWEVER... !!!

I do have first hand knowledge that sneaking up behind someone, poking your fingers in their ribs while yelling "BOO" ... definitely will cure constipation ...

Never mind how I know... just trust me on this...

Rosa's lime juice or Real Lemon juice will get rid of the hiccups but only use half an oz or so. but then you might have to cure heartburn but it works on the hiccups.

this one struck me funny...you don't have a mint or gum, but you have sliced cuke in your purse? (I know, you ask a waiter, but it still sounded funny the first time I read it! )
