Hello, its the Rookie Rver with question regarding GPS systems (and maps). Is it true there are specific GPS (and maps) systems that provide guidance especially for trucks, motor homes, rv's, etc?
I use a GPS (MicroSoft Streets & Maps and now Garmin) and always take "truck routes" when I travel. My thoughts or consideration(s) were always the height of over passes, truck/motor home/rv user friendly accommodations along the route, and so on. I am not sure but the other day I thought I over heard a conversation that stated there are systems available (GPS and maps) that are designed specifically for trucks/motor home/rv's and they provide many more functions and information that are useful to truckers/motor home/rv drivers.

Not to disillusion you, but I once peeled the roof off a 40 trailer when hitting a 11' 2" underpass on a truck route on a U.S. highway. Truck routes are not to avoid low underpasses, but to keep heavy trucks out of residential areas.
Microsoft S&T does have a low clearance alert, as does many of the GPS units.
Oh, I avoid truck routes unless there is some specific reason I have to take one. They are usually no faster and the pavement is usually broken up. Besides, I am not driving a truck!!!

I did not know that S&T has a low clearance alert. Can you describe how to enable it? I have 2010 version.
This will be a great feature....
Thanks

That I don't know. But you get 4 different height settings to choose from. Think I found that piece of info at LaptopGPS.com reviews or at a link there. Should be part of the set up.
