We are looking to buy a toy hauler for our hobbies. What are the best brands or models? What should we avoid? What should we look for? Thanks for any advice!

I would say avoid the Keystone, Raptor. But that's just me. This is our 4th RV and I'd say the Raptor has been the worse when it comes to build and fit and finish. I had the newly desgined model 3812TS and it was a p!SS pour design, IMHO. The dealer told me they got paid more in warranty work for my coach than any of the others, so that should tell you something.

We've had the fr wolfpack for 2 yrs now and would say it had some minor, easy to rectify initial problems, excepting for sagging holding tanks. They have recently fixed that, but we haven't used it since to see if their 2 flimsy narrow metal bands will work on these huge tanks. It is not as expensive as others, but the interior space is great, lots of storage, sleeps a basketball team, lots of features for the money. Definately look close at the choices. Hope you find what you need.

You'll get as many answers as questions as to "which one is best". I suggest you go and look at as many as you can, find the features/size you want, then check here and other places for a response as to quality of workmanship. You can also tell a lot by inspecting them carefully.

Hi Carrell & Brian,

Welcome to the Mental Ward (Toy Hauler section) of the RV.Net Forums!! You will find this is a fun place to be with lots of great people!

You will get better responses if you can supply some of the following info.

Type of TH you feel you want or need(bumper pull or 5th wheel)
Min/Max Lenght
Type of TV (Tow Vehicle)you plan to use
Number of people on average typically sleeping in it
Type and quantity of toys you plan to haul
Garage model or open floor plan
New or Used
Typical Area you plan to use it in (cold or warm climates, summer only or all year round use)
Budget range

I agree with comments above look at as many as you can. At that point you will decide what features you want. I have had a Raptor for 2 years now and love it with minor issues. GOOD LLUCK!!

Couldn't have said it better myself, so I didn't!

We use our Raptor 3712TS to haul quads once in a while, but most of the time the garage is my hobby room (RC airplanes)n and my wife's sewing room (quilting). We also use it as a play are for grandkids when it's raining at the beach and I use it as a mudroom when a couple of my buddies and I are fishing at the coast or on the upper Columbia. We really like like the separate garage and kitchen layout in our Raptor, and we've done a lot of small mods (like heat into the garage) to make it more useful.

Toy haulers are incredibly versatile, which is one of the reasons they are so popular, so give some thought to the questions above, go to the next RV show you can find and have a blast shopping!!!

Another vote to stay away from the RAptor. Bought a brand new 2008, and it's been in for repairs more than we've camped it. And Keystone has been just STELLAR about warranty--NOT!!!!

Keep in mind that quality is like beauty, its in the eye of the beholder. Also, quality changes. We had a 2005 Raptor, worked great no problems. But who's to say if that same hold true for a 2010 Raptor?

The only way to judge quality is for you to look at the units yourself, and use one of the many "Pre-Delivery Inspection" forms to make sure you check each item out before you buy it.

Generally speaking, like many things in life, quality costs money. A good quality Toy Hauler doesn't mean its going to have the latest gizmos and gadgets. One of the more solid Toy Haulers is the Desert Fox line, they won't have a lot of black leather or fancy graphics, but they make a great four season RV. The Glendale Titanium MPRV & Newmar X-Aire are both made by good companies with a solid reputation, but you're going to pay for that quality too.

The list 982gt gave is a great starting point.

welcome to the forum Carrell & Brian. I assume this is your first TH. What an exciting time, especially in a buyers market. You should be able to get a great deal. Try to look at as many toyhaulers as possible. Also your question is very vague. could you define hobbies as well as answer 928gt's questions.
