I discovered a very miniscule leak around the base of my toilet this morning. It seems to only leak when the pedal is pressed and not from being uner pressure. Do you think the bolts that hold it to the floor just need to be tightened or does it need a new seal? I am not familiar with the way RV toilets work so any advice would be appreciated. I believe it is a Thetford toilet and it is 7 months old.

Thanks for your help.

More likely to be the water ball valve then the seal.
Make and model of toilet.
Does the water remain in the toilet after flushing? Yes, means water valve for sure.

I will have to get the exact make and model. Yes, the water does remain in the bowl. Can you replace a ball valve or does the entire toilet have to be replaced?

Does it leak when filling the bowl? That could be a leak at the fill valve. If it leaks when dumping the water that could be the seal. Tightening the mounting bolt may help this. You can buy seals and valves at most RV parts stores, even Walmart has some. Good luck.

The valve can be replaced. Depending on model how easy. Most Thetfords need to have toilet removed for ease on installation.
If yours has the cable for operation, inspect them closely as they get fraid an will break. If fraid replace while you are there.

WE had a similar type leak last summer (or thought we did) because we would find a small amount of water right at the base of the toilet. No signs of water leaking from above but we eventually found that there is a tiny O ring sealing the outlet tube from the water module. The O ring has become unseated and allowed just a single tiny stream of water to escape with each flush and it took several minutes for the water to reach the toilet base and be seen. Re-set the O ring and no more water leak. Good luck / skip

Skip, would that o-ring be at the fresh water conection to the water module and if so, is it located at the back of the toilet?

Thanks.

There is an o-ring between the water valve and the toilet flush assembly. It could be a Skip suggested.
