My daughter received a Starbucks gift card for her birthday. When she tried to use it they would not honor it. What's up with that?

I don't think we will be buying these gift cards for teachers at school for Christmas or for anyone else this year.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

On the card, does it state "good at participating stores", or some similar statement? If so, the card is only good at certain stores, not all stores.

I would go to the local store and ask for an explanation, before slamming ALL Starbucks stores and gift cards.

Did they give a reason? Could be that the card was not activated properly when it was bought, hopefully she has the receipt.

Thanks, I'd rather buy something else anyway.

Maybe it has an expiration date on!

No, the card was brand new and activated properly. And I was not slaming Starbucks. I just wanted people to know that when you buy a card for a chain and think all the stores will honor it, that may not be the case. I assumed since they were a chain, they would be under the same rules but they are not. So I say again BEWARE.

That's not fair! After all..... who buys a coffee just to stay in one place all the time. We get coffees and usually get traveling.

We can't beware if we don't know the reason that it was refused.

Not all Starbucks accept the card. So don't think they are good everywhere. That is what to beware of.

Have read a story somewhere about someone giving "Gift Cards" to Everyone at Christmas that had not been activated! They were a bit on the Slow side of the Room and had No idea!

There are Often Usage Restrictions on these Cards and Expiry dates as well which doesn't seem fair to Me!

If I buy a $10 Card I expect $10 worth of Product not some "sorry" we don't give change or It's over a Year Old!
