I own a 2008 Damon Astoria 38' Class A diesel pusher. My wife and I have been motorhoming for just over a year, and we love it. Up to this time we have towed my 2002 Buick Century with a tow dolly. However, we are interested in towing wheels-down. I don't know what that would do to my Buick. If I have to go to another vehicle, I need to stay with automatic transmission (clutch operation gives me back problems), but I don't know what's out there that would safely work as a TOAD with automatic transmission. I'd like to avoid any transmission add-on device that could fail and cause the transmission to be destroyed while towing.

your Buick would require an auxilliary trans pump. For a listing of cars/trucks that are capable of 4-down towing, click on below then click a year of vehichle on top left of page.

If you want to stay with a vehicle about the same size as the Buick you have the Chev Malibu auto is 4 down towable. No matter what the the Motor Home mag says, be sure to check the mfger's book on the vehicle you choose to insure it is 4 down towable. Look in the recreational Towing section.

Saturns make very good tow cars. There is no prep to tow even the auto trans ones. They are also pretty cheap because they are going to stop making them. I like the plastic body ones as they do not damage much from small rocks. This is something motor homes throw up.

Honda CRVs require a bit of a fire drill to tow them. Same with fit.

If I were going to buy a new tow vehicle I like the Chev Malibu and Ford Fusion. Both can be towed without issues.

I bought an 08 Jeep Liberty 4x4 automatic to flat tow; it's essentially 'plug & play' and has no steering lock. Tows great, don't even know it's there.

Running it thru the gears while idling and letting it idle in N a few minutes while you hookup is a fire drill?
