I live in NJ along the coast. Fireworks and alcohol rule the day and night here especially around the 4th of July. My dog shakes uncontrollably when he hears fireworks booming over our house. He won't even go outside for nights afterward. We medicate him and it doesn't help much. I'm looking into ordering a "Thundershirt" too. This year I would like to escape to a quiet campground that doesn't allow fireworks AND is a long distance from the commercial shows. Any ideas for NJ-PA-MD-DE? Thanks

Around here, fireworks are not allowed in any state CG so that's where we go.
Maybe NJ has the same rules?

Agree with ScottG
We use to avoid camping on the 4th...too many people too zooy, but now we always camp on the 4th - in a WA or OR state campground...much quieter than at home...no fireworks (very strict). The dogs love it.

I recommend a thundershirt. If it doesn't work, you get your money back.

Anywhere in Delaware is fine. Anyone caught shooting fireworks in a CG gets a free night stay in the pokey.
Full timing it since July 2012 My pics

Stay away from places with lakes!!
We live on a large lake - the fireworks will start on June 29th - and with any luck will taper down around the 8th. Of course, some folks will get to their cottages on the 13th and realize they didn't shoot off the entire arsenal - so there will be MORE fireworks the following weekend....
Fortunately, my dogs aren't afraid of them - two actually go out on the boat with the family to watch the main display.

Thundershirt has worked well for our dog. Daisy actually fell asleep wearing it the other night during a thunderstorm.

Don't get me started on fireworks. Those of you who only have them for a few days around the 4th are lucky. They have already started here. Indiana failed to stop sale and actually passed a new tax on the sale of fireworks that is supposed to go to fireman training. Most fire chiefs around here just plain don't like them at all, an talk to the ER people.
So, I like thundershirts. They don't always work but work a try. As far as sedation, there are many different kinds. The old school was to use acepromazine. I still do sometimes, but prefer a benzodiazepine or another anti-anxiety medication. Seems not to sedate as much and provide more relief from the scare.
