RE: I80 Truckee to Sacramento Construction Delays?

We drove down I80 from Reno on a Monday morning, June 29th. There was a single lane on a stretch up to Truckee from Reno. The trip down was not bad at all. There were several sections with one lane between Truckee and Colfax but we still managed about 45-50 mph over that 50 mile stretch. Road was not too bumpy or narrow.

California 101 SF to Eureka Diesel?

I'm towing a fiver early July along Hwy 101 from Rafael to Trinidad and I like to fill up with diesel every 225 miles or less. I have "Next Exit" but it doesn't cover 101. Gasbuddy and websites don't tell you either. Any suggestions where I can find a large RV - accessible diesel fuel stop, especially between Santa Rosa and Eureka? Thanks.

I80 Truckee to Sacramento Construction Delays?

We're hauling our 5er down from Reno next week. I checked Cal Trans online but the messages were confusing, some even said trucks and RV's would need to detour over a certain length rig (perhaps this is only nighttime when road closed??).
Anyone know the scoop for driving westbound during the daytime - expected length of delays, any restrictions on Rvers ?

California 49 Jackson to Sonora

Planning to come down 88 to Jackson then heading to Yosemite Pines campground at Groveland. I am hauling a 32' 5er with a F250 SD Diesel pickup.
I have heard some say that 49 may be an issue with grades, narrow curves etc. Would appreciate advice and where the worst grades are if any.

RE: 2500HD Owners!! - Tire Questions

I have the 2006 F250 SD originals - I believe they are Bridgestones. Mine are still "green" on inspection, lots of tread left. Most of my 42,000 miles have been towing out West. One thing I do religiously and often is check and adjust tire pressure to the recommended pressures (when cold) and avoid using my brakes. That said, you probably just got a bad set of tires.

RE: Looking for recommended camprgounds

Colter Bay Village is the best RV spot for the Grand Tetons, but it must be 20-30 miles north of Jackson. We loved it - big trees, easy pullthru spots, near lake and views, lots of activities - boat cruises, horserides, etc.
We stayed in Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone. it was the only full service campground inside the park. Spots may be a little cramped and hard to back into for a newbie (or most people with a 32'). Outside of the park, there is Grizzly at West Yellowstone, but then you will have more driving to do, since the Yellowstone roads are long and have low speed limits and delays.

RE: Yellowstone

You are right about the North Loop, it also has the longest and steepest grades. One good side of the North Loop is that it has sections without traffic delays, i.e. bison-gawking! We were fortunate enough to see a mother grizzly and her 2 cubs on the North Loop, so definitely worth driving but I would use a toad.

RE: Lake Tahoe to Yosemite (Groveland Ca)

Thanks for the advice. 88 route sounds doable, just wondering if my brakes will be worn between Angels Camp and Sonora : Carson Hill, Tuttletown and the Rawhide Rd shortcut off 49 on Google Maps street view look like there might be some steep twisty grades but I'm not sure. Anyone driven it with a 5er?

RE: Between Glacier NP and Minneapolis - Campgrounds?

Roosevelt NP sounds like a great idea, I'm from Ontario and will be returning home after seven weeks going to California, Oregon, Washington, BC and Alberta, stopping at several NP's in both countries. I've never been north of I-90 in the US so appreciate the tips, including the fuel issue (diesel is usually even harder to find). I expect I will be taking US 2 and will need diesel stops every 200 or so miles on the way to Roosevelt and likely a campgd somewhere through Montana as well.

Between Glacier NP and Minneapolis - Campgrounds?

We're towing our 34' 5er driving from St Mary's campground at Glacier NP in August and need to find campgrounds and/or scenic attractions between there and Minneapolis. Ideally we would like easy Pull Thrus/hookups at campgrounds but would trade-off for beauty/scenery.

RE: Lake Tahoe to Yosemite (Groveland Ca)

Thanks. Looked at Streets and Trips map - it shows US50 as a main hiway and 88 is just a thin line on the map, like a local road. Does this sound right ? Why is US50 not recommended ? I'm hauling a 34' fifth wheel with F250 diesel pickup.

Thanks for the tips. Can you advise on how the roads are as far as grades hauling my 5er (I assume I have to drop a few thousand feet) ?

Lake Tahoe to Yosemite (Groveland Ca)

We're thinking of coming Lake Tahoe and then Yosemite at the end of June (there is a campgd available in Groveland 1 hr west of the park). We are towing a fifth wheel and are wondering whether we should go down the Truckee pass on I-80 and then take some road across to Groveland or whether there is another shorter and faster route that isn't too difficult on our rig and it's brakes etc.
Also not sure about the roads around Lake Tahoe and where we might camp for 2 nights (with electric/water).

Had a GREAT authentic meal at the Church St Cafe (if my recall of the name is right) , behind the catholic church in Old Town. The Sandia Crest tramway is the longest in the world, by the way.

RE: Glacier NP to Theodore Roosevelt NP, ND

We're faced with the same issue in August when we leave Glacier NP headed for home in Ontario. I looked all around on the net and finally found that there are three cmpgds in Glasgow Montana - you can find them at www.woodalls.com. The best rating is for Cottonwood Inn and RV Resort 800 321-8213. They are on Hwy 2, 2 miles west of the junction with Hwy 24. The others are called Shady Rest and Trails West at Glasgow. Good luck!!

RE: Digital TV Conversion

Yep, we got caught the same way. I think the stores were unloading the non-digital TVs at low prices and a lot of us got stuck.
