RE: Protecting pipes from rocks

We applied "Transit shield" (they use it to protect new cars - it's like adhesive Saran Wrap) to the front of our Class C and I'm SOOOO glad I did!!! gravel wasn't as much of an issue as the millions of butterflies we drove through in Alberta....LOL!! After our 9000+ mile drive, I peeled off the Transit Shield, and found a perfectly clean MH underneath :-)
Another thing we had done for "protection" was put some 1/4" hardware screen across the front of the radiator, but behind the grill. That too made it easy to clean off all the dead butterfly carcasses that were clogging other vehicle's radiators and causing them to overheat! We drove up in mid-August; so I don't know if the butterflies are an all-summer nuisance or not?

RE: Cycling in Alaska and Yukon

What about buying a couple of cheap Walmart mountain bikes??
I wouldn't personally bring my *good* bike, only because the dirt/dust up there is basically volcanic ash and highly abrasive. I can't imagine what kind of mess that would make after hundreds/thousands of miles being carried behind an RV?

RE: Dam Dogs

I agree with the OP - that I would be seriously concerned about my grandchildren visiting this house? They are obviously breeding pits with some serious "character flaws".... if these were indeed "gentle show dogs"?

RE: special clips for window screens

I wonder if you can simply lay a thin strip of wood in the track for the window screen??
That's one heck of an escape artist you must have!!

RE: A Hershey Update :(

I just want to thank you for sharing your wonderful ways of celebrating the life of a VERY beloved pet. We all walk down that dark path sometime or another, and your tributes to Hershey have been inspiring to read. I hope I can do as well when the time comes for MY "heart dog" to wait for me....
God bless you and your family and your pets.

I'm another one who gives the dogs a winter break - but it's time to go get their blood tests/Sentinel tablets again.....

RE: this looks soo cool (deck on top of rv)

Interesting idea. It works on houseboats, just have to crown the roof. Not real sure what the advantage is on an RV though.
Oooooh - that would be AWESOME for our front-row-at-the-drag-races-pit-spot!!!!!! Sit in the shade, sip a cool beverage, and watch the races!
And worry about the grandkids falling over the sides.....

RE: Sandra Bullock/Jesse James Split

Just curious.....why do so many people here think Jesse James is a loser?
I don't (OK - so I'm in the minority). I've seen him in enough interviews, that I think that "Bad Guy" persona is for show.....that deep down, he's really a pretty decent guy.... who cheated on his wife. Unfortunately for Jesse - Sandra is "America's Sweetheart", and I'm afraid he's not going to have many supporters?

RE: Need Doggie Boat Ramp

I think Overton's Marine supplies carries a dog ramp??
http://search.overtons.com/?D=pet&Nty=1&N=0&No=0&Dk=0&Ntt=pet After seeing the price on this - I'm wondering what you could build with a few hooks/carpet-covered board, and some flotation???

RE: YOU KNOW HOW DOGS GET EXCITED WHEN YOU TAKE THEM FOR A WALK?

“Dogs don’t perceive height difference, so that doesn’t worry them.
He can say what he will - but that dog's ears-back, splay-toed stance indicates to ME that he's thinking "Are you NUTS????" LOL!!!

RE: Weight problem

Dr Doug, doesn"t the metabolism go along with his energy? Dudley has a much higher energy level than Maggie does, but he is the one gaining all the weight.
I realize one shouldn't compare dogs to humans.... but this made me laugh!! My husband - an absolute COUCH POTATO - is 6'3" and barely 175 lbs. *I* am the human dynamo - constantly in motion - and I'm not going to tell you my weight until I lose about 30 lbs.......
And we eat the same food, also.....LOL!!

RE: How Often Do You Feed Your Dog?

I'm lucky, I guess - all 3 of mine are "nibblers" - so I just keep their bowls filled. If anything, my Aussie tends to be on the thin side, so I make sure they have food when I'm at work.
I've found, however, that they DON'T eat if we're not home (?) - and their favorite time to eat is just before we go to bed. One would think they'd need a potty break in the middle of the night - but that's never been the case.

RE: Places to exercise a Golden?

I found he had fallen into an abandoned buried tank that someone had left the cover off.
OMG!!! I will always keep Buddy in mind..... can't believe someone would have left a storage tank open like that..... how insane!!!

RE: Some Nascar trivia

The good old days
The lack of high rise hotels makes it difficult to figure out what part of the beach they are using,
I'm guessing S of South Daytona Beach (Ponce Inlet area) - only because some of the elevated "road shots" seem to be taken from a flat-roofed structure??
Several years ago, we rented a flat-roofed house in SDB, only to realize from the large framed photo on the wall that this house, plus one on each side of it, had been the center of the Beach Track for Daytona - and there was a restaurant about 2 blocks to the N called "The North Turn" (now renamed Racing's North Turn). Of course, these 3 houses were sandwiched between umpteen high-rise condos.... but the shared driveway (now) was actually the paved part of the race track!!
It was cool to be in the middle (literally) of that piece of history!!
Here's a link to the restaurant - it's a GREAT place to visit!

RE: Grafitti is not Art, in my humble opinion..anyways

While some of the stylized writings catch my eye for their artistic flair - if I'm SEEING graffiti, my brain usually says "this is not a good place to be" because so much graffiti is gang-related messages....

RE: Why not put the Toyota in neutral?

----One attorney in the Texas case contends in court documents that Toyota may have deliberately stopped allowing its EDRs to collect critical information so the Japanese automaker would not be forced to reveal it in court cases.----
The above was copied from the linked article at the top of this page - and *if* it's true - Toyota deserves everything that's about to hit them.

RE: Marvin Ballard 1931-2010

I think that when you are such a close friend - that you would be called to assist someone in their final hours - that you don't "need" to say goodbye because that person never really leaves you. It's pretty obvious that he's there in your heart - and that's a wonderful thing :-)

RE: Time Share company

Sadly, my Dad and step-mom bought 2 timeshares at the high point of the real estate market (by refinancing their home). Now, unfortunately, they've lost BOTH :-( due to foreclosure..... at one point, my stepmom sought assistance from those folks on TV who say "sell us your timeshare" - only to realize the offer is for pennies-on-the-dollar

I realize Jesse James is somewhat of a "rebel" - but crossing a strong-minded woman like Sandra Bullock (I LOVE her!) doesn't seem like a very smart thing to do.... I hope they can work this out?

RE: Why not put the Toyota in neutral?

While we're talking about computers controlling cars - read this!
http://www.woodtv.com/dpps/news/strange/hacker-shut-down-100-tx-cars-remotely-_3278695
While initially funny, a disgruntled ex-employee hacking into the car company's computer and causing 80-some cars to either not run, or honk their horns and activate their GPS systems....may have other implications?? By reading between the lines - how many cars ARE able to be controlled externally by a few keystrokes..... I guess what I'm asking: if a car finance company sends a "disable" signal through the air for a deadbeat's car (and let's face it - that goes across the entire country) - does that same signal get picked up by an innocent bystander Toyota, who translates it into "go fast, please"??
I'm not a tin-foil hat wearer - but when you stop and consider all the "signals" bombarding each and every one of us, every day...... well, it just makes me wonder......
