RE: The Big Big Trailer

We have a 5th wheel and it works well for full time unit. Been full timing for almost 2 years and were long timers before this. This is our fourth 5th wheel trailer and we bought this one for full time.
Well built and love the floor plan.

My washer and dryer, and the dryer is 220 like a household dryer. Works great! It is located in a cabinet in kitchen.
Have all the comforts of home on wheels.

RE: Bruce Williams syndicated columnist answer to F/T

We are full timers and love it.
I have a 93 year old uncle who still lives alone, since he lost his wife about 7 years ago.
Many years ago he wanted to buy a travel trailer, motor home or something to take on vacations and wife said NO! So they never did. He has regretted this. Her reason were, she said, "she was not going to clean 2 houses!" Since he did most everything she ask he didn't live his dream of being an RVer on vacations.
I think this is sad. He is too old now. And quit driving about 5 years ago.

RE: Census??

Our state of residence is Texas with Escapee's mailing address. Works well for husband. I pulled my credit report and says my mailing address is a business, WRONG... because someone did not put the box number. On my husband's it has the box number and his is OK.
Says on my credit report it is an RV park, does not say this on husband's.
As long as they don't try to tax me on that. I am going to try to get this fixed.
In order to get this fixed... I have to have about 6 forms of id that says where we live with an electric or utility bill in that place of residence or the credit reporting agency won't do anything or change anything.
We are full timers and may be in Texas for a month or two but not for long. We travel.

RE: Some people do not like snowbirds

We do not shop at Walmart. Shop at the local grocery stores. And use local stores for other needs. Like the local owned stores best.:B
Found a nice small local owned pet store that sells natural dog food.
Have been some large purchases by some of our friends here for new motor homes and 5th wheels. A few have bought new vehicles.
We love AZ and the people that live here. The restaurants too :B
Son lives in Gilbert and has a business.
I was not trying to cause problems just asking if anyone experienced bad behavior from locals in other areas or here. One in several years is not bad for our experience.
From what I have read here, a lot of people in Florida do not like snowbirds or their business. Even the younger snowbirds like us...
I don't think I want to go to Florida from what I have read here. Never, ever!:E

RE: 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab Short Box 5'7"

First buy a good hitch and then buy a bigger truck to put it in.
Then you will have more choices of 5th wheel. :W

RE: new vs used

We have bought both. 2 used and last 2 were new. Would prefer new for the warranty. No one has used the black tank, gray tank, shower, fresh water tank, or bed. You can also get what you want by ordering. Have the options you want, colors and etc.

RE: Some people do not like snowbirds

You have to remember you are in their home as visitors. If your hometown started to have traffic on the road in front of your home where you had to wait to get out of your driveway. Or your favorite resturant is booked solid with a 1 hour wait to eat. You would be upset too if you did not own a business. Most of these places are not what you would call a tourist destination. It's just a place someone figured out that, hey! it's warm here all winter, and now herds of old people show up and stay all winter long. She was probably frustrated. She don't make any more money if its 30 customers a day or if she handles 200 a day. Guess why she is upset.
I know if I was making minimum wage and now I have to work 10 times harder to get it I would be upset.
I am not a complainer and have only had the one instance of rude behavior here this whole winter. The other gentleman was half kidding in the grocery store and we visited with him while we waited for 10 minutes. The AZ residents and visitors have been very nice. :)
We are not elderly. We like AZ and will be back next winter.
I just wanted to know if anyone had something similar happen anywhere. :R
This girl that was rude.... maybe she would not have a job if there was no business for her to have a job. She could be one of the laid off workers. We do bring in business for pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, flea markets, dog groomers, vets, hospitals, electricity, resort rental, garages, auto dealers, RV dealers, and much more.
A few of our neighbors in the resort have bought new RVs since visiting here.
We are full timers and we travel this great land during the summer. Do not have a SB house since we sold our home.
Living the good life. :B

RE: Some people do not like snowbirds

Sorry, but I have got to tell you all, living in a tourist area can suck. We love to have you. You do help fill the coffers of our town, but we are not beneath you and this is our HOME. Don't come here and tell me how quaint we are and how things are so much brighter, more efficent, cheaper ,etc, etc back home.
Treat me with a little respect and I may tell you about the restaurant down at the lake or the town campground that only charges 12 dollars a nite or the roads in the national forest that you can get into with your motorhome. If you aren't happy because we don't have streetlights or chain restaurants and only one grocery store you are more than welcome to return to whatever urban hell you sprang from and let me and mine go to sleep in our unlocked homes content in the knowledge that we work and live in one of God's gardens.
I have always treated the locals with respect. I didn't complain to anyone at the stores because I had to wait. But I did complain when I was insulted by a clerk. That was not a nice thing for her to do.
The man at the grocery store was funny. We talked to him while we were waiting in line.
We do not complain if we have to wait on a perscription or grocery check out. Plenty of time is what we have.
I just went inside to check if they were less busy for my meds.
Believe me we are nice people and polite. Most of locals here are very nice. And thankful we come here. Just had not seen this bad attitude before, since coming here for several years.
We do not drive slow and do obey traffic signs and speed limits. Respectful in all ways here and anywhere we visit.

RE: Satellite tv and cell phone services

We use Sprint cell phones, and Sprint air card used with a router so we can have more than one computer on line at same time. Our router is a Linksys. Have used it for several years and been very happy with it.
Have Dish and so far have had good luck with that. They did have to come out and work some bugs out of it. They replaced the LNB on the dish. Have not had any trouble since. Didn't charge us for any this.

RE: Some people do not like snowbirds

I did call Walgreens to complain about what she said and they transferred me to the store and the boss man said she would never say that! So.... I just changed pharmacy. Still walgreen but much much better!
We are full timers so our RV is our home. But maybe we will think about some other warm place for winter. :)

Some people do not like snowbirds

We stay in AZ for 5 months of the winter every winter. This area is like a ghost town when the snowbirds are not here and snowbirds do help the economy. I know this because I have a relative living here.
This year a couple of times were made to feel a little unwelcome here.
One was getting a prescription filled. (since then we changed to a different Walgreens and they are better and quicker) Anyway took me over an hour to get my prescription when it was ready and waiting. Went to the drive up window and there were 6 cars, pulled out and went inside and 14 people in line, so went back outside and waited until I got it. The girl working there was less than friendly and told me "This is snowbird's fault we have to work so hard." :R
Another was waiting to check out at grocery store. 3 people in line and no big deal. Man in front of us turned around and was complaining about the snowbirds. He said he could get in and out of the grocery store in much less time during the summer. He did not know we were snowbirds. :B
We told him we are snowbirds and we help the economy. He said he agreed but gets upset when everything take longer. I think he was surprised to hear we were snowbirds after he said that! :B

RE: Cleaning RV at campground

We use micro fiber cloths and a bucket of water, no soap, One micro fiber cloth to wash and one to wipe dry. Using several cloths, Works very well.
We do this together. Have a good wax job all time and use McGuire spray and wipe. Or 3 M wax . Usually use McGuire's.
Campgrounds usually will let you use a couple buckets of water to wash the RV with.

Read the article again and you will see several dogs
have died from bone splinters and other
causes from these treats.
It is caused by this company's
dog treats.
Any other pork product could be OK. But this one has been
RECALLED.

RE: RV's turning into first home.

I don't know where people are staying where they see all these older RV's with homeless people living in them. We stay in RV parks/resorts that do not allow this type of guest.
Have never been looked down on because we live in our RV. Our RV is quite nice with all the amenities of a home.
I would never look down on someone who has had the bad luck of losing their house and are forced to live in their RV. Most people this has happened, was not their fault. The economy is bad out there.
Where has the compassion gone for people when they are down and out.
It could happen to anyone.
Losing jobs, illness in the family, divorce, storms or natural disasters..

Congratulations on selling your house. And your new life on the road.
Took us 2 years to sell our house. We took less than we wanted but still did OK. Been full timing now for almost 2 years. Love this life style!
Maybe we will see you on the road. :)

RE: RV's turning into first home.

I would not call this poor man's housing. Our 5th wheel cost more than some houses and the truck was not cheap.
We are full timers by choice. Did NOT lose our home. We sold it! Took 2 years but sold it.
I feel insulted by some of the posters description of full timers.:R
This is not a cheap way to live! We like to travel in the summer and like being someplace warm in the winter.
We are snow birds by choice. Retired and living the
lifestyle we love. :)

RE: Sardines

Only one time, this close and only for one night while traveling from point A to point B.
Stopped in Las Cruses NM. We were so close we had to ask the next door neighbor to move their bicycles and picnic table so we could get our slides out. Also our back end was hanging over into the Camp road. Were worried we would be hit by a vehicle going through. Will never stay there again! Was the only place we could find at that time of day. Had to sleep with our tail lights on all night to keep people from hitting us. A Walmart parking lot would have been better.

Texas has all their parks open and don't plan on closing any.
They are smart enough to realize parks bring in money for state and the community. Also Texas is not in a budget crunch.
