RE: Denver to LA

There is a lot of Wild West country to see in Utah. I recommend you go West on I-70 past Green River Utah. Then South on SR-24 to Hanksville. Continue West on 24 thru Capital Reef NP to Torrey. South on 12 to Bryce Cyn. Then South on 89 to 9. This is the back door to Zion NP. West on 9 thru Zion, then South on I-15 to Las Vegas and on to L.A. X2, the little buckaroos will love it....... The trouble is, if you went straight from Denver to LA your talking 3 days. To see anything on the way will take 7 or 8 days.

RE: Sequoia National park campgrounds

I don't recall for sure, but I think at 23' you may be too long to take your trailer into the park. As an earlier post said, the roads in and out of Sequoia are very steep with very, very, VERY tight turns - you cannot appreciate this until you see (and drive) them. Would not be my idea of a good time. We stayed at Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers. Decent place run by nice folks, relatively clean and quiet and close to the park entrance. Sites a bit on the small side. The sign say's "Trailers with length of 22' from kingpin not recomended" you will not be stopped. I've taken my 5er up manytimes, some tight turns but very doable. If you like to fish then stay at Hume Lake in between the Parks as they quit planting trout in the Parks years ago.

RE: Job in Bakersfield California

RV park on 58 called the Orange something is nice. Keep your awnings in when not in the RV, can get some strong winds in the area. Some of the worst dust storms or can come in with little notice. If you visit north towards Fresno, pay close attention to fog warnings. You won't believe how bad ! ! ! Orange Grove RV Park on Edison RD just S/O Hwy 58, nice place. I'd just forget the Ca lic. If your stoped the LEO's don't ask what your doing here...........JMHO

RE: Galt, CA to Coos Bay, OR summer 2010

I agree with the Hwy 42 route. Stay at Sunset Bay SP, they have hookups, but you will need reservations. Lots of nice RV parks in the Gold Beach area, the mail boat ride is kind of a rip, but lunch at the red farm house is very good. Have fun.

RE: Sequoia National park campgrounds

Go to Hume Lake, good fishing and nice campgrounds. Best route is take Hwy 180 and go The Generals Hwy approx. 4 miles to the Hume Lake road, then 9 miles down to the lake. There are several campgrounds just before the lake and the rest are on the other side of the lake past the Christian camps. No power boats allowed. Be sure to make reservations and have fun.

RE: north from Oceanside to B'field

I'd take the 395 route, will be some traffic, but will drop you straight down to Hwy 58 at Cramer Jct. Several places to fuel up there.....JMHO

RE: Any problem with 90 degree turns and Sundance 287 XL

I have seen the video. I have also seen the Chev/GMC truck with the rig at 88-90º but I dont believe all the details are accurate. The picture of the truck with the rig turned looks like the hitch/kingpin position is 3-4" behind the axle. Difficult to determine from a picture, but it looks like the pic is on an angle so you cant properly detemine the location. I am judging primarily by my own rig, measurements I have made (just minutes ago measured my truck bed width at the cab @ 76") and my understanding of angles/geometry. It doesnt float with me yet. Use pictures like this and plug in your own numbers. http://rvbasics.com/techtips/images/shortbed-5th-wheel-hitch.jpg Im very pro-Heartland - it will likely be our next 5th wheel. But about the video - dont forget who is telling you. :) That's right don't forget who is telling you.......... I believe we're all owners. In your drawing you show corners, my Sundance doesn't have them

RE: Any problem with 90 degree turns and Sundance 287 XL

I have a 09 Sundance 5th wheel, my TV is a 04 F250 shortbed. I do not have a slider and have made 90 degree turns with no problems. There is the only answer required for this post. Ah shoot, I thought mine was a good answer..........LOL

RE: Any problem with 90 degree turns and Sundance 287 XL

See my profile, 08 Sundance, F250 SB and turn around in my culdesac no problem. I did have the hitch set 3" back of the axle with no towing issues. Save your money.

RE: looking at new 5th wheel

You will more than likely be setup in a RV park and most of them have nice puplic showers, so you can sing a longer song. The water heaters are fine in all units, but I think the largest available is 10 gals.

RE: Highway 50 to Lake Tahoe

Here is a live web cam image of Hiway 50 at Meyers, and one of Ski Run. Good Luck Gemstone Thanks for these links. I have an alternate route to go over the top on 80 into Reno. I will keep up with NOAA and CalTrans. Why not come up 395 and go in the back way from Carson City??? Just a thought.

RE: New RVers - San Diego to Paso Robles (and hopefully back)

Wine Country RV park in Paso, great spot. Our trailer group stayed there once, was $10 per night for our Yorkie.... not what I'd call dog friendly.

RE: If you were thinking about doing a fireplace in your 5'ver

That is a good price, cost $209 delivered to the house when we got one. Works great and was an easy install.

RE: taking the RV to see the Rose Parade

Pomona has an RV park you can stay at, can't remember the name just off the 210, but was reasonable. Wife went with our trailer group for the grand stand seats. Myself I volenteered to walk the dogs for our rat and 3 others, then sit on a warm couch and watch it on tv. I doubt the $300 price has changed much for dry camping on the route.

RE: Pueblo, CO to Montrose, CO via SR 50

Lauren and Dr. Quick - We had planned to take our trailer south on US 550 to US 160/Durango then on to Mesa Verde Nat'l PK and eventually to the Grand Canyon. Do large RVs travel 550 south and make it?? /Linda Initially we had considered US 160 west across CO, but found so many areas that seemed so interesting using 50 and 550. Would 160 have been a better choice? We've done a lot of traveling Smoky Mts. Nat'l park, Shenandoah, Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons - is 550 so challenging we would regret it. I definitely don't want to be on a road that "needs an escort" and both sides of the road to negotiate switchbacks, etc. Thanks. /Linda Lauren and Dr. Quick have given you a lot of good information for you to decide. But let me answer a couple of your questions directly. YES, all types of RV's travel US550 every day, along with all types of commercial vehicles, and without incident (winter excluded!) I am in that area a lot in the summer and see the traffic. You won't "need an escort" as the road is wide enough for all vehicles, even in the switchbacks. IMO, 50 and 550 has more interesting scenery then 160. Now, 160 does go over Wolf Creek Pass which is a beautiful area and has even been sung about in a country western song. But 50 goes over Monarch pass and thru Gunnison and past Blue Mesa Reservoir which I believe is a pretty drive. And 550 thru Ridgway, Ouray and Silverton and on into Durango should not be missed, even if you do it in your TV. With your driving experience I believe you will not regret traveling that route. X2

RE: F250HD Short bed

Heartland RV has their 88* turn front cap that works with short beds. It's on their Cyclone and Road Warrior 5er's. Dale Most 5er's are going with this design, see my profile, that doesn't require the extra price for the slider. Never had a problem and I fuel up at truck stop instead of the regular gas stations. When I get home I drop the Rhino and utility trailer then turn around in the culd'sac with the 5er.
