RE: USAA experience...

Our 5th wheel is insured by USAA directly. We bought it in March 2008. I have also wondered about why some are sent to Progressive.

RE: Strange town names...!

I grew up in a town called Old Glory, Texas.
For the Christmas season, there is a Holliday, Texas, and when we lived in Alaska, we liked to visit North Pole, Alaska.
I live near Sparta, Missouri now.

RE: Cleaning cigarette smoke?

Well when I searched for an article on third hand smoke, I found many. I apologize for posting it although information about third hand smoke was taught to my students by our DARE officer and a parent who is an RN provided information to me about it as well. So it is not just this article that is out there about it, google it. I again apologize.Well in a few years I'm sure there will be fourth hand smoke.
Maybe so, who knows. I guess an example of that would be hugging someone with 3rd hand smoke clinging to their clothes and then taking those toxins back home to your kids. But anyway I digress, as far as my first response to the OP, I just wanted them to be careful while cleaning up their new purchase so they didn't get sick. I do apologize for the third time to the smokers that I have offended with my post. I am done with this post, I do wish my best to the OP.

RE: Cleaning cigarette smoke?

Third hand smoke
Be sure that you wear protective gear while cleaning. The smoke residue on the walls and in the carpet are toxic. Interesting article.

RE: How many nights out this year

We have about 73 so far this year in ours, but we did live in it for two months after we sold our house in Alaska waiting for school to be out.

RE: Tips for Staying warm

When we were in ours waiting to move from Alaska, we bought two of the Lasko (upright) portable heaters and they worked great. So much so that the furnace would not hardly come on. This was in temps that were in the 20's, during April of this year. This is similar to what we used http://www.laskoproducts.com/heaters/model_5130.html

RE: 2 weeks in Anchorage-What to see

Be sure and go to Seward and take a Glacier cruise. Seward was our favorite spot in Alaska. It is about 2-3 hours south of Anchorage. They have several hotels and B&B's there.

Y'all have fun up there this winter. I will be enjoying winter in Missouri. I do miss the "real" mountains but will not miss the winter weather.

RE: What to expect driving to Alaska from Montana

There are also cheaper bus rides into Denali national park than $82. The green buses up there don't provide lunch for you (you have to bring your own food and drinks for the day), but you can go much farther into the park on them.

RE: Is home town a national vacation spot?

We live about 30 miles from Branson, Missouri. It is great to be close enough to go in and enjoy the attractions but not have to live in the congestion in the summer time.

RE: Some good advice

I have a 2004 Dodge 2500Cummins Auto trans. with 35in load range E tires. The wife and I found the fiver we have always wanted in a Bighorn 36RE.Now
i hav esome friends that are tellin me that going down any steep grades 6% is not something that my truck is meant to do. I've looked at a pac brake but that was a couple of grand I wasn't planning to spend. Any advice.
What about the 3400 RE? That is almost the same floorplan and a little lighter. We pull with at 3500 Dodge Megacab diesel.

We have a neighbor whose son-in-law plugged him into a dryer outlet and fried everything in their 5th wheel.

RE: Space Shuttle Landing

I thought that I saw it go over on Tuesday night separated from the ISS. I am in Spokane, WA right now. Was I right?
We were at my son's football game on Tuesday night here in Missouri and we saw two lights moving across the sky right at the time it said they were to fly over. We assumed the same thing you did, that it was both but separated.

RE: Hope Ak. campgrounds

We stayed in the Porcupine Campground several times when we lived in Anchorage. Last time was with our 39 foot fifth wheel. We stayed in one of the 2 pullthroughs. You probably will need a reservation to get that site. It is about 30 feet off the bluff and the inlet is your view out the front door. I will try to resize some of my photos and post them. If you like to hike, in the campground is the access to a 10 mile roundtrip trail. It skirts along the inlet and has terrific views.

RE: Branson Missouri - Mom's First Trip

I highly recommend the Showboat Branson Belle and Dixie Stampede. We are going to the Stampede on the 19th of Sept. I also agree on the Lamberts, but it is in Ozark (where I live) about 30 miles north of Branson. The food is definately worth the drive. Be warned, they only take checks (from anywhere) or cash, no credit cards, and they can be busy in the evenings, they do not take reservations. I suggest making the drive mid-week for lunch. Same menu, same cost but not near as busy. Another good place to eat in Branson if you like sea food is Starvin' Marvins. It is pricy, 24.99/person but it is all you can eat snowcrab, shrimp (fried and peel-and-eat), ribs, salad bar, catfish, etc.
Other attractions we have done in the past have been the Titanic Museum (really neat if you are interested in Titanic), Ripley's Believe it or not (fun and interesting). My teenagers went to the Hollywood Wax Museum and had fun. There are scenes set up to take pictures with the wax figures. There are also a lot of antique stores in Branson if your mom likes shopping for antiques.

RE: How fast is YOUR coach???

We had a huge class A pass us as we were on Hwy 65 going to Branson the other day. We were doing 70 as they flew by. But they didn't handle the hills well and we passed them going up a hill.

RE: A Dogs Story

The shelter where we rescued our new puppy gave me that to read, "to feel good about adopting a puppy from a shelter." Being a retired military wife, it hit me hard and I cried and cried. My husband and my daughter were looking at me as if I had lost my mind. Great story.
