RE: Pedal Extensions

1x4, 2x4 or 4x4 depending on how much you need. Once cut to size, a pair of bolts and nuts in two drilled holes complete the install. Any carpenter or handyman should be able to do it for you.

RE: Snakes

I once heard of placing a large thick rope around an object to keep snakes away then again maybe it was a joke?:S It has to be a horsehair rope. Cowboys used to loop their horsehair lasso around themselves when sleeping on the ground. Kept the rattlesnakes away. I don't know if it works on black snakes.

RE: SEEMS U.S. DOES NOT WANT SNOWBIRD'S

What a bunch of trolls. I assure you, I love to visit Canada and love to see Canadians visiting us. (being lots of money, I do when I head north LOL) Unfortunately there are some at the border (could be on either side) who think they can make up the rules as they go along, or try to respond to the last real or imagined slight. Until we can get rid of these egomaniacs, all those who cross have to endure.
I have no issues with a thorough check, for whatever reason, but this sort of thing proves that there are people in jobs that are well above their mental ability. Sorry for your delay. Hope it works out soon.

RE: Where did topic: 'interesting, mini van and a 31 footer' go?

About par for the course. The Forum Rules list any number of points that folks must comply with, but the reality of it is that all the stuff below the first bullet "We reserve the right to remove any post at any time for any reason" is eyewash. Simple observation of when entire threads are deleted for one inappropriate post shows this is how things really operate.
Too bad so much valuable dialog is lost, but no one apparently reviews actions by the thought police.

RE: Blue Ox repairs.

I sent my unit in for what I understood was to be a software upgrade that they had offered a couple of years ago. What I got back appears to be a new unit. It may be reconditioned, but it's not the one I sent them. Seems like good service to me.Yeah, I did this for an Apollo about 4 years ago. The old one was working fine, but they strongly suggested it be updated. BAD MISTAKE! I got what appeared to be a new one, after 8 weeks. Then when that didn't work I sent it back twice more. Finally got it back just days before we left on a 4 month Alaska trip. Brake unit failed 2 times on the way to AK, and finally died permanantly. They wanted me to send it back again, and instead I trashed it. Put a SMI Air Force One on in Alaska and never looked back.
I'd consider something else if I were you. ANYTHING ELSE.

RE: Maxxair vent covers

We use Maxxair Fan/Mate covers on our 3 Maxxair fans and love them. They're made specifically for the Fan-Tastic Fans. We have NEVER had a hint of rain come in, traveling or stationary, so the rain sensors don't make any difference, and air flow is excellent.

RE: No MH tail lights and no toad lights when towing

I'd check ALL the fuses in the generator compartment. My experiences on an 04 and 07 Freightliner chassis is that the fuse descriptions on the box cover can bear little or no resemblance to what they are actually hooked up to. Check all the fuses. I've found a group of these fuses in the compartment where the MMDC computer was located too. The coach manufacturer locates that box.

RE: Windows 7 GRRRRRR!

What is a clean install?:h
Save all data (docs, pics, movies, etc.) to another place.
Reformat the Harddrive and install Win 7.And then REINSTALL each and every program you had on your last system, right?
Yep, real progress Microsoft.

RE: Why Would I Want a Bread Machine?

I wouldn't be without ours, either on the road or in the rig. I've been making bread with it (or it's predecessor) for at least 10 years. We don't buy store bread.

RE: Air operated toad brake

I put the Air Force One into my first DP coach in a CG in Alaska. Our Blue Ox Apollo went out for the 3rd time going north. Took about half a day. When we traded up to the Allegro Bus, I swapped the system over in the dealer's parking lot.
We drive SEVERE mountain roads and have never had an issue with AF1 or brakes. We regularly see 12-14% grades. As far as I know the SMI unit is the only one that meets government air brake safety standards. I'd never have any other type brake system than this one. We've probably got close to 65,000 miles on this system.

RE: Large motorhome question

Sort of depends on why you got the DP. Most people with these big rigs can't live without the power and space they can all use. No insult intended, but they want to use the dishwasher, commercial refridge, and 3 hair driers. We chose to go the boondock route and rarely pay for a high end CG. Our rig is set up to boondock for weeks at a time, because that's what we do. We never make reservations, use COE and NF CG's and in some places like Alaska just pull off into a sand pit for weeks at a time. Our rig has standard gas heat, not Hydro-Hot, an oven and 3 burner stove rather than a 2 burner and dishwasher, and all LED's instead of halogen lights. I can put the rig in places a lot of others couldn't put a much smaller rig. The reason we have the coach we do is because we wanted the ability to spread out in the woods, mountains or desert, stay as long as we want and not have to deal with snooty CG management and neighbors. We've seen more of these in high end parks, and they're not for me.
See you in the weeds.

RE: running reefer on inverter

The plug in would be your best choice. Failing that, freeze half gallon milk containers and put them in the freezer and fridge. If you use the ice to fill the freezer completely full and do not open the doors, you should be fine. Things may thaw a bit, but I don't think your batteries would make it through the trip running the fridge.
Any chance of getting off at intermediate stops? When we used the Marine Highway we started at Prince Rupert and got off for 2-3 days at each stop. That meant we were never on the boat more than 3-4 hours so we didn't need to make any fridge provisions. Each stop was unique and had a lot of interesting things to see and do. Camping was free or almost so at most places.

RE: Campgrounds near Scottsdale Arizona

Weight and size restrictions on the Apache Trail are about the section beyond Tortilla Flat and on up toward Roosevelt Dam. Beyond Tortilla Flat the road is largely unpaved and has weight restricted bridges.
As I said, the road is for those who don't mind mountain driving with their rigs, but definitely do-able without a problem. If you have concerns and a toad, you can unhook at the Needle View day use area and drive in to decide. It is about 2 miles beyond the Lost Dutchman State Park. We take the 40' Allegro Bus towing the toad into Tortilla every year for a week or two. There is also a commercial CG at Canyon Lake, about 2 miles short of Tortilla. They have some hookups, but I've never stayed there.

RE: Campgrounds near Scottsdale Arizona

My Streets and Trips shows 32 miles to Apache Junction via US 60 and another 16 miles to Tortilla Flat. The last 14 or so will be at 25mph due to mountain road. If you have a Golden Age, be sure to keep it on you. You get a 50% reduction in fee with it. After you park in your site, you go to the Apache Junction store (500 yards) and buy a scratch off window ticket for each day you'll be there. Be sure to show it to them BEFORE they issue the cards as you get different ones than the full fare folks. These go in the rig windshield.
We have seen occasional frost at night but we're usually there around the end of February. Days in the 50-70 range and not too much rain, of course.

RE: kansas turnpike - overnight

A quick check through their WEB site showed no prohibitions on overnight parking. Unless there's a problem, cops usually have better things to do than check how long you're in a parking lot.

RE: Voltage Controllers/Regulators - Motorhome

Are you sure you need one? We have a Progressive Industries Surge Protector that will protect the electrical system from just about any electrical fault you can imagine. http://www.progressiveindustries.net/ems_hw50c.htm We have had it work a very few times and isolate the RV as it was supposed to. Unless you're going to be needing a very stable power supply and needing it for extended periods, the Progressive may be a more cost effective solution.

RE: Campgrounds near Scottsdale Arizona

Look up Tortilla Flat CG in the Tonto National Forest. Water and sewer but no electric. It is NE of Apache Junction up AZ 88. If 2 a lane twisting mountain road gets you a bit nervous, this is NOT the place for you, but if you like beautiful views, peace and quiet and high desert, it's great. A closer place is the Lost Dutchman State Park, just east of Apache Junction, but it tends to fill fast and stay full. We've never seen Tortilla Flat more than 2/3 full.
