RE: Overnight between Texarcana and Dallas?

There is a KOA, north of I-30 at the hospital exit, take the right turn towards Applebees and it will be about 1/2 block down the road. There is a rest stop 1 mile west of Mt Vernon and there is an RV park about 1 to 2 miles s of the interstate at the Emory exit just west of Sulphur Springs. Hope this helps.

RE: Rifle, CO

We just left that area. There is lots of places on top of Grand Mesa, just SW of Rifle. As a matter of fact, I got to see my first bears on top of the mesa. There are somewhere around 300 lakes on the mesa, stocked with trout. Very pretty area. There is also a SP on I 70 30 miles E of Grand Junction, on the Colorado River. There is Vega SP just out of Colbran, a big trout lake. Enjoy.

RE: Current popular upright vacuum with RVers

DH had bought a Eureka Optima for the 5er before the one we have now. It was in the garage and my big vac cratered in the house, so I tried this one, like was posted above, I can't believe the suction on this little vac. Way better than the full size vac I had. Lots easier to move around too. We have an Aussie and a cat and it really picks up the hair. Love it.

RE: Sweet Potatoes

I wonder what the rescipe for sweet potato pie is? I wonder if you can add some cinnamon, nutmeg, can of condensed milk, mash it with a potato masher, put it into a pre-baked and browned frozen pie shell, and bake for a short time at 350. I bet you could give away those sweet potatoes. If it does not turn out, then you are not out a lot of time or materials. Good Luck, Fred. I was thinking the same thing. I think I would give it a try, but I would put it in an unbaked pie shell and bake for about an hour, I might also add an egg or two. Give it a try and let us know how it turned out.

RE: Need good but simple potato soup recipe

I do a take off of Olive Gardens Zoupa Tuscano: Slice potatoes and bring them to a boil. Cut up mild Italian sausage and add to the potatoes, when the potatoes are tender, add some butter and half and half. When it is almost ready to come off the heat, salt and pepper to taste and add some chopped up kale. Really good.

STILL broke down.........

Well, here it is, 3 weeks later and they have just now torn down the truck. There was 7 gallons of fuel in the oil. DH got really frustrated with the lack of service he was receiving from the dealership and went to our local dealership and bought a new truck. He said even with the fix on the old one, he didn't think he would trust it to get off towing again......

Pecan pie recipe

My dad is coming for a couple of days and I always make sure that he "sweet tooth" has something to enjoy. I am thinking about baking pecan pies tomorrow. Since I have never baked that peticular pie before, I am open to YOUR favorite recipe, Anyone?

RE: Can emergency tow services take your FW??

DH just broke down a couple of weeks ago. He called the emergency road service number provided by Ford. Told them what he had, they sent a wrecker for the pu and a 3/4 ton with a fifthwheel hitch for the trailer. The good news was, the total was under the $150 max that Ford pays.

RE: canton texas swapmeet

We spent all day long yesterday there. The best way to find out about the rv park situation is firstmondaycanton.com There is rv hook ups inside the trade days grounds. There is also cantoni20rvpark.com I don't want to discourage you from going, but the February market would probably be a better market to go to. It seems that a lot of the vendors take January off. But, on the other hand, the clearance sales are in full swing. I will say that there were very few folks milling around this weekend compared to past December trade days. Have fun.

RE: Death in the Family - long...sorry....

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. DH and I have both been there and it is tough. Have you asked airlines about the bereavement fares? I think you do have show an obit or a funeral program but that would be no problem. I am not sure about now, as it has been 15 years since I had to fly for my mom's service, but at that time, the fare was the lowest one offered by the airlines, even tho it was last minute.

RE: Crock Pot unattended. Do you do it?

I do it quite often. Try my recipe: Chuck roast, one packet of Good Seasons Italian dressing mix, one packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing mix, one packet brown gravy mix and one cup of water. It is the best pot roast you will ever eat.

RE: Finally got the 5er home

I asked him the same question, he said it is connected to power and that the inverter should provide power, I don't know so I can't advise him otherwise. Will they only work off the battery even being connected to power?

RE: I'm cold in NE Texas

We are cold in NE Tx too. I was in Dallas the past 4 days and returned home to Mt Pleasant last night. Sure glad the really cold stuff went south of us!

Finally got the 5er home

Good morning.....DH finally got the 5er home yesterday. The truck is still at the dealership in Oklahoma. Do paperwork with the company to ok a new engine on the warranty. Anyway, when he got the trailer home and parked on the pad, the electric jacks will run for about 1/2 second and stop, push the button again and again 1/2 second and stop. Took him forever to get the thing level like that. Does anyone have any idea where to start troubleshooting the jacks? This whole situation has really tested us. But, without the bad times you don't fully appreciate the good times, at least that is how I am trying to handle it.:D

RE: What's YOUR favoriite crock pot recipe?

We like the McCormick slow cook packets, available at most grocery stores. Our fav's are the Italian chicken and the pulled pork. The pulled pork makes great leftover sandwiches. Are these in the frozen foods? I have never seen them.

RE: Argh, stupid county regs!

We have one of the vinyl skirts and it does make a huge difference in the heating. We love it. It also helps keep the 5er stable in winds as the wind does not go underneath the rig.

RE: funny front plates

You might try flee markets. I have seen them there. Also, you might try rv dealerships or camping world.

RE: STILL broke down

Doesn't the lemon law require that you have the vehicle in the shop for three times for the same problem? The truck has not been in the shop but one time other than oil changes. That was for the exhaust clean out sensor, which was a part of this breakdown, I think, if I gleened the correct info from DH's ranting.

RE: STILL broke down

I spoke to DH (I am babysitting a grandson this week) and he said that they told him that the engine was toast and would have to be replaced. I asked him to elaborate and he was not in much of a mood to talk about it, so maybe I can find out more tomorrow after he calms down a little. As I say, they did ask for all the oil change records, so maybe it has something to do with that. Fortunatly we have been compulsive about the oil changes in all the vehicles, it is just a matter of putting all the paperwork together.
