Yep, yer right about the inside. Crawled under with a flashlight and found another 4-digit "branded" into the tire following the "H8HH". Thanks for the quick reply.

You MIGHT get by with lower pressure if your tires are over-sized for the load they're carrying but what would be the advantage in doing so? My advice is to fill your load range D tires to their max. If they're Chinese manufactured tires they'll blow regardless of the pressure you run and if they're GOOD tires they'll last a long time before the tread wears out or age requires they be replaced. My pickup came with tires with a max. inflation of 80#. When inflated to that pressure it rode like an iron wheeled lumber wagon. I ran more like 40# PSI for better ride, after 9 years the were doing fine when I traded. the ride quality isn't a consideration with the trailer. But a balloon blown up tight is much easier to "pop" than a flabby one. This time of year heat buildup is not a worry and this shakedown run will not be a long trip. I've always thought of MAXIMUM as just that. The trailer is rated at around 10,000 and that works out pretty well at 2450 per tire @60PSI. My doctor said a MAXIMUM of 6 beers per day, but I don't always drink that many and he doesn't insist that I do.

tire pressures

sidewall of tires give MAXIMUM tire pressure to use with MAXIMUM load but how does one decide what pressure to run with actual load? My case is a hauler with a dry weight of 5200#, minimal water, dry holding tanks, average food/supplies and no toys. Tires says 2540# at 65PSI. if the load per tire is 75% of max rated load per tire would you run 75% on max pressure?

Goldencrazy, I'm curious. How much does your BT weigh? For quite a while, I ran 65PSI in the tires and didn't really notice much harshness to the ride. Then I got to reading all the horror stories here in the forums about blowouts and raised my TP to 80PSI. My wife has even commented that the ride got worse once we raised the tire pressure. Guess I should have my BT weighed but don't know an easy way to do that.

I also have just installed air bags on a 27 ft BT Cruiser. I started out running 50 PSI. And the ride did improve some but in most cases, the ride was fine to start with. Those huge potholes you can't avoid and bridges are a bit un-nerving. I didn't take a compressor along on our first outing so wasn't able to adjust the pressure higher. Later I did raise the pressure to 75 PSI, Really couldn't tell any improvement or deterioration in ride, but it was a different stretch of highway, so maybe not a fair comparison. Guess the next step might be to lower to 25PSI. An older and smaller Motorhome I once bought had air bags. Was told by the owner to run 100PSI... did that for some time. Lowered the pressure to 60PSI and the ride improved a bunch. That one seemed to be much more overloaded than the BT Cruiser. The Cruiser drives and rides perfectly well most of the time. Wind or passing trucks are not a problem. My only reason for adding the bags was to avoid that horrible bottoming out feel on bridges and potholes. Any suggestions on proper pressures?

Snellville Dave You can probably get the Air-Lift system at your local CW. When they know what to look for. I talked directly to the "application" guy at Air- Lift and HE told me they had no application that would fit my MH after I had described my frame/spring setup to him. . They listed things for E-450s but the drawings in their instruction sheets looked nothing like my setup. Afterward, I looked at their website and found an application with instructions that matched what I have. That kit is the P/N 57131 that I mentioned earlier. I also found a Firestone brand kit that will fit. Why pay CW or anyone else to install these things? Unless you're rolling in dough. (I'm not). Curious, what would they ( Camping World) charge to install? I personally prefer to do my own work. I save a few bucks ( in most cases, a buncha bucks) but I really like to see that things are done the way they should be. I'm more interested than some guy working for $10/hr. while the shop is charging $70.

Strange you should ask! I was looking just today for a set of airbags for the E-450 Super Duty. Finally found an Air- Lift kit P/N 57131 that looks like it'll fit. Almost ordered but thought I'd ask around on the forum about the use of add-on airbags. My intent is to soften the ride, are airbags good for this? The ride is not unconfortable, but a rough road can make you think that parts are falling off as you drive. I don't really need to lift the ride height but it could go up a bit if the bags would absorb some of the highway joints. Someone in this thread said that the air bags did not change the rideon his RV. Has anyone added the bags and got a better ride?

If 64 is just as good a road, I'll probably go that way. Been up 70 on the way to Ohio couple a years ago. Always looking for new routes if they won't shake the screws in the MH loose. When in Dayton, we decided to check out the Air Force Museum. I wasn't even in the Air Force but ended up spending three days at the museum. Can't imagine what the Smithsonian would take.

St. Louis Mo. to Cincinnati - I-70 or I - 64

I'm wanting the smoothest, quietest ride, the distance looks to be about the same? Suggestions? Also, This can be a 2 or 3 day trip, so suggestions for sights along the way are welcome. Actually, the trip from Joplin, Mo to Cincinnati can be 3- 4 days. But I've done the Joplin/St. Louis thing and just want to get through it. I day max. for that segment.

Anyone ever been to Goosenecks State Park? Opinions. Been there several times but haven't camped there. Pit toilets, picnic tables and not much else but solitude and a spectacular view. No charge for camping either. I think this would be a great place to boondock. Yes it did look a bit sparse from Googlearth.... the spectacular view is what I was hoping for.... so the camping amenities matches the price? I like free. What was the roads to there like? they look to be paved. Yes?

Well, things have gotten complicated-er ! We were thinking of taking our 4-wheelers out to Utah. We just wanted to be able to leave the motorhome at some boondocking site and take off for some trailrides. BUT, we might need to make a supply run into 'town' and the 4-wheelers probably wouldn't be 'street legal'. To make a long story a little shorter--- we bought a Jeep. We can probably get far enough off road as I need to get (62 yrs. old )and still have an easy way into town. The more We study Utah, the more we want to see. Our theory has always been to look a place over completely while you are there as you might never make it back again. But - there is a lot we want to see in Utah. Six or seven weeks is about as long as I can be gone from home without getting a little crazy. So we're picking out a region (in this case, the southeast corner) and trying to map out several places we'd like. We've bought the Gazetteer and got an info. packet from the state yesterday. I've spent a lot of time on Google Earth and Streets & Trips. We have tons of research to do but I'm hoping that some on here can offer suggestions and maybe pictures and GPS coords of their favorite places. We're wanting to boondock as much as possible since we've spent a lot to be prepared and we really enjoy the solitude. We do plan to do some commercial and/or State campgrounds. Anyone ever been to Goosenecks State Park? Opinions. Is there any way to boondock down around Monument Valley within sight of the good stuff? To all that respond, thank you! in advance

This is making the trip look more interesting all the time. What would be the best 4 week timeframe, weatherwise, to visit Utah? I'm wanting to do some hiking (no marathons) but hot weather really takes a toll on me. April/May is my guess, but this fall could be good. Problem is that some really good dirt track racing happens around here in Sept/Oct. What is late Oct./ Nov. Like? Thanks to all who have responded, I was up till 2AM reading, I'll have more questions, no doubt.
