RE: K&N Cold Air Intake 2500HD

The only way to get cold air to your intake is to get it from outside the engine compartment. Most of those filter kits are in the engine bay and even if they have a so called heat shield it is NOT!!! x2. Ask the Jeep guys about K&N filters... better yet, read this: http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/air1/air-3.htm The term CAI has been universally (and incorrectly) used by aftermarket intake manufacturers to describe their intake kits. Cold air does make a difference - there's a company that does a true CAI for Jeep Wranglers, and owners of it have reported feeling a difference in response. here's a K&N someone took out of the new box at the store and held it up to the light...... would you run a filter that had oles in it like this? http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/damonr/Longo/DSC06777.jpg height=640 width=480

RE: Happi-jack question

Most new campers have bumpers attached to the front wall....... but you don't want to "self install" any, because like Sleepy said, you could ruin a water tank http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/dohdrz/AF811/IMG_2914.jpg

RE: Torklift Stable Loads

The only remaining things I hope to do to the camper when I return is to upgrade my truck hitch to a class V so I can pull my trrailer on the extension. Torklift SuperHitch is the route I went.

RE: somebody took my back seat!

I would be concerned about resale / trade in value. Seat can be easily reinstalled when it comes time to trade-in or sell the truck.

RE: Chevy/GMC torklift stable loads

Good information to know as I was considering going with the Stable Loads. What year is your truck? Also, are you running air bags too? (I need to update my signature as it still lists my old truck)

RE: K&N Cold Air Intake 2500HD

And it's not a CAI either.... it sucks air from the engine compartment, with nothing but a tin divider separating the engine bay from the area where the filter is. There's no provision for it to draw in air from outside the engine compartment.

RE: Your advise please.

Also put some reflective tip along the sides. WalMart sells the red/white alternating tape - it's the heavy duty DOT approved stuff that big rigs use on their trailers. That stuff would be perfect - it's the same stuff used in someone else's pics above.

RE: Tires

Last weekend at a camp ground I saw a 3/4 ton chey with 235/85 R16 in the front and 285/75 16 on the rear, is this a common practice. very uncommmon.... and it could only be done on a 2WD truck. try that on a 4x4, and after actually engaging the transfer case and driving, something WILL self destruct, because front tires are turning a a different rotational speed than the rears. transfer case will not like that.

RE: Your advise please.

Maybe put some reflective tape (red) along the back, so blind drivers in parking lots will see your extension.

RE: Can't wear out my Chevy's brake pads

I've heard many stories of the silverado / sierras with rear disc brakes going over 100k miles on original pads front and rear.

RE: Lance wiring harness

To me, it looks like 12 AWG on the left, 8 AWG on the right.

RE: 1998 Lance rot restoration

There's a place just up the road from me that does major camper overhauls... They've gone as far as redoing all the siding on a few campers, and extensive rot repair. They have a few that are for sale after the repairs/rebuild process. http://www.lentzsrv.com/ The place has been around as long as I can remember.

RE: Air bags and compressor

...BUT... If I were to do it again, I would go with the PacBrake airbags because I think their overall quality is better. That's why I went with PACBRAKE too.... also, at least for Chevy, they are a NO DRILL install, and the airbag is located on top of axle, directly below the frame. In my picture below, the hardware is still loose. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/dohdrz/truck2/air%20bags/IMG_3032.jpg

RE: Duallies vs single

For long distance traveling, a dually is a huge step up in stability, and peace of mind, less "white knuckle experience" for crosswinds, etc.

RE: New camper choice.. help me decide!

What does the sticker say, 3889 or 2889? I've looked at a lot of AF811s, and they have always said "about" 3500 on the sticker near the door. ... Our Arctic Fox 811 weighs 3889 pounds without the generator. ... ...ours is 2010 the sticker on the back of our camper put on by Arctic Fox shows 2889 maybe they put the wrong sticker on the back? I actually called Arctic Fox and confirmed the weight.

RE: Duallies vs single

Theree is no draw back with a dually that can't be overcome just by learning to drive. The truck dosen't run up on curbs... the driver does. It's always poor driving skills. My wife is totally comfortable driving a dually... and so am I. The tires wear less, the load is distributed.... :B :B :B I couldn't have said it better myself. For me, parking is a non issue, because I don't try to park in the forn of the parking lot where I will: A: not fit unless I do a 7 point parking maneuver B: Be subject to door dings So, I park out in the back forty of the parking lot, where NO ONE is nearby, which for me is nothing new. I do it in my commuter car too. No, I won't take it to the mall, and there are some other places I won't take it either (for running errands). But where I do take it, I have no problem at all, and I only have about 850 miles of "dually driving experience", spanning the last three months. Samples of dually parking, at the local Home depot, back forty. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/dohdrz/WAVJC/IMG_2595.jpg

RE: New camper choice.. help me decide!

The AF811 long bed (no gen) weighs in at right near 4000lbs right off the lot, with no propane, full fresh water tank and two batteries. The short bed AF811 with no gen, has more storage box area in the wings, so it probably weighs more than the long bed. CG of the two is only different by mere inches, so if you think your next truck might be a long bed, get the long bed camper now. AF is one of the few manufacturers where the CG varies minimally, so you CAN put the long bed camper on a short bed truck. Right now they only have two smaller campers, made in short/long bed versions: the 811 and 865. Previously there was also the 860, which is a shorter version of the 811. 865 was new for 2009, and is a non slide model.

RE: adding a 12 volt plug in

I use only the Marine grade plugs and receptacles. Amazon and Cabelas both sell them. The Marinco SeaLink (Combo) has a locking feature and will handle any amperage that comes with a cigarette type plug. Marinco/Sealink Like posted above, as well as what Sleepy said, get the marine style.... Marinco 12v outlet. Anything else is, well, junk.... auto parts store special, hardware store bargains, etc. are a waste of effort to install. I just finished installing one today. I ran new wires for it direct to the fuse panel... it was easy because I had access to everything to route the wires. I will get pics posted in a day or two.

RE: New Toy Hauler Tank Capacities...

Kind of depends on the size of TH. bigger rigs have bigger tanks than smaller ones. my 21SW Desert Fox had 26 gallon fuel station, 40 black, 40 gray and 100 Fresh.

RE: Camping in the in-laws driveway for Christmas

... every house we go to keeps their heat up too high- especially at night! That can get annoying - a "too warm" house at night, I don't sleep well when it's too warm.
