RE: Who knows
Trail Manor Expensive, but ultra ultra light weight, very well made, roomy and easy to tow with smaller tow vehicles. You'll see people with Porsche SUV's and Nissan Frontiers towing these with no issues!
RE: Slide adjustment
Lippert Components owners manual for slideouts. You may consider installing foam or bulb type weather stripping with the adhesive backed at the bottom of the slide to better seal it, instead of trying to adjust it yourself and ending up worse off!
RE: Do they make caulk or tape that I can apply in rain?
EternaBond can be applied underwater! You can actually patch a vinyl swimming pool leak under the water line.
"EternaBond works best on a clean, dry surface but there are times when a repair needs to be made to something wet, or even under water. EternaBond will not adhere to all materials when wet, especially if that surface is porous, like wood or concrete, but our success on many materials that are not porous, like rubber, metal, sealed concrete as in an in-ground pool, have been very good."
Should work fine on a roof leak while raining. Keep in mind that once you apply it, it will be STUCK! After you lay it down, apply some hard pressure to burst the "micro encapsulated adhesive". Good luck and remember while you're up there...'slippery when wet'!!

RE: Digital Camera
Fred....your supposed to hint around as to what you want, and maybe if you've been good, really good, Santa will get you one! Ho-Ho-Ho!
Lucky you, since it is close to the Holidays, you will be able to get a bargain on what you would have had to pay more for a few months ago, and so you can get more camera for less!
I'm not going to confuse the issue by telling you what my favorite brand of digital camera is, as a matter of fact, I don't own any of the below brands! This is an unbiased bit of helpful info for you!
Consumer Reports just came out with a Digital Camera issue a few months ago, and if you can snag one of these, you'll be all set to capture those memories, and easily download to your computer, get great pictures without having to master a complex camera!
The best "point and shoots" for under $150.00 were the Pentax Optio M50, Canon Power Shot A560 IS (a Best Buy!) Canon Power Shot A1000 IS, Canon Power Shot SD1100 Elph.
WalMart has the Canon SD1200 (just above the SD1100) for just $149.00 in your choice of 6 colors AND a free memory card! And the Canon A480 (better model like the A470 Canon recommended by Consumer Reports) for $109.88. Hope this helps. Some of these are in the store, others may be purchased online at Walmart.com.
Good luck!
RE: Beware, it's fog time in California
My Dad lived up in Visalia, central valley california, and when we'd drive up and visit we got the thick Tule Fog in the winter, and the summer the huge dust clouds that were just as bad! We would pull of the highway and wait it out, and you could hear the accidents happen on the freeway.
I wouldn't blame it on the Drivers...or even "bad drivers"... as some of these folks are professional drivers. The fog sneaks up on you, you come over a hill or curve, and wham! There is is. You can't see, you are inside a cotton ball! Your reaction is to hit your brakes, and no one behind you see's your brake lights, and Wham! Big rig crawing up your tail pipe!
An 87 car accident killed 8 and injured 33 the big 126 vehicle crash we saw were the biggies. Visibility goes down to 200 ft, and zero....and it takes the average car 150 ft to come to a stop at 50 mph...you do the math! And the speed limit up there can be up to 70!
Fortunately, the fatalities are no where near what they used to be the pre-airbag and antilock break days! Usually 2 or less, and usually un-seat belted. The one yesterday injured 16, no deaths...and look at the way some of those cars were crushed!
Be careful up there! Between Bakersfield and up to Red Bluff, I5 and the 99 hwys.
BTW the Tule Fog is the biggest weather related cause of death in California! It's a combination of ground fog rising from the fields and cold mountain air spilling down into the valley.
RE: Flat Screen TV Cleaning
A clean dry 100% microfiber cloth won't scratch the screen, gets it shiny clean. No chemicals or sprays needed, don't spray anything on the screen, if you use anything, moisten the cloth with just water.
RE: $11,000 gets me a duramax ally in my 01 suburban !!
I don't think $9500.00 is out of line for that kind of transformation. As long as you're happy with it! But you'd think the front suspension may have to be beefed up a bit due to the greater weight...maybe?
RE: Crock Pot unattended. Do you do it?
Center it on the counter away from anything that can be damaged by heat, our sink is ceramic so that's where I put ours when we make out home-made Chile or stew while out-n-about! But the sink thing is less about fear of a fire than a statement of how messy I can be when making my specialities! Put part of a can of your favorite beer in that crock pot roast for a really savory meal!
I live about a block away from DDland in Anaheim, if you give me your cell phone number, I'll keep an "nose peeled" for any burning pot roast smells while you're there!

RE: dripping shower faucet valves
Just in case you are referring to the shower head dripping when the little hose button is putting the hose on "hold"....THAT's mostly a normal function of the built in "vacuum breaker".
But if not, the valves are likely made by Phoenix and are purpose made for RV's.
Here is a 'how to' that might help you, it refers to taking the vacuum breaker out, but also shows how the plumbing looks and works back inside of there! Good luck!
HERE
P.S. The guys at True Value and smaller mom and pop Hardware stores are more likely to carry RV plumbing stuff also!
RE: Heating MH
Often the electrical outlets in the kitchen counter area are of higher amps in order to use coffee makers, blenders, toasters, etc. We set our ceramic cube heater on the kitchen counter and heater #2 on another wall outlet on the oter side of the rv.
There's nothing wrong with sweat suits, blankets or a "Snuggie" either! Especially the "Snuggie for two"!
RE: What to ask about a Fiver
The model number is often a bit misleading, if that is a 1995 Eagle 211 SL Jayco then it is not 21' long, but is 23'. It's dry weight is around 4300 lbs. Look at NADA for the value, it's not nearly what they are asking even allowing for a factory fresh look! You should be more interested in the GVWR. A fiver really carries a lot of weight over the truck bed.
It does look to be in great shape, push up on the ceiling and push in on the interior walls to see if they "give way" or have a crunchy feel, or stains from water leaks.
RE: Harrah's Laughlin NV now charges $5 for dry camping
Laughlin Harrah's has never had an "RV Park", just a parking lot across the street for "over-sized vehicles" mostly for the semi's. They refer RVers to use the facilities at the Riverside Hotel and Casino, which does have an RV Park, and you may contact them at 1-800-227-3849. Usually pretty full this time of year!
A lot of people (squatters) were starting to live in the over-sized vehicle lot, putting out slideouts, generators, awnings, BBQ grills, patio furniture, parked cars, etc. Crime started to escalate. This caused the truckers to complain that there was no space for them anymore. So there ya go, a few spoiling it for the RVers.
Last time this happened, the Chamber of Commerce for the area said it wasn't them responsible for banning overnight camping, it was the Health Department. So you pretty much know what all those RV squatters were doing with their waste! Again....
RE: KZ Coyote Lite Quality vs Surveyor
Despite what Forest River claims in their brochure and website, the KZ and the Surveyor have identical wall insulation, R-7 block foam laminated walls.
But talk about warranties! The KZ has a full 2 year bumper to hitch warranty (also includes a 2 year structual warranty, unusual!) vs the Forest River Surveyors 1 year. Who has more confidence in their product? KZ.
The TPO roofs on both are warranted by the roofing material manufacturer, Royal Tuff Ply by Alpha Systems for 12 years. (Keep in mind that the roof warranty does NOT cover damage from leaks due to improper sealing of seams!).
KZ has been making RV's since 1972, and just make KZ's, and the original family still runs it!
And Forest River is a huge corporation manufacturing over 20 brands! Who do you think cares more about you?
Forest River Surveyor has vinyl tenting, the KZ has Sunbrella made from woven Acrylic layed over polyester, (not canvas, not vinyl!) much better, longer lasting, breathable and waterproof. Sunbrella was invented 45 years ago for the boating industry, and it thrives in wet, sun drenched environments!
KZ keeps winning the Dealer Satisfaction Award, 7 years, which means the dealerships are paid on time by the Factory for warranty repairs, and thus are more than happy to address any issues without giving you the run around. Only Jayco and Winnebago also consistently win this award as well which is presented by the RV dealers association.
KZ also has a slew of standard equipment, digital ready TV antenna, Sunbrella, Air Conditioning, Awning, Microwave, 4 jacks, exterior shower, sink cutting board and more....all come included with it! The Forest River has these things as extra cost options or packages.
I'm a huge Jayco fan, having had 7 of them so far, but KZ has always been a close 2nd! Good luck!
RE: Is a garbage truck conversion a "B"
"It's a Unicat Terracross conversion, (from a German Military Vehicle)a modular camper rig that looks like, well, a garbage truck. The website for the german made Klaus-Darr-designed vehicle was clearly written in German and translated into English, leading to sentences like "The optimum layout of the bodies interior was created by the experts for indviduell vehicle manufacturing" (sic), but that doesn't detract from the coolness of the design.
Comes in four different models, ranging from couples to family-sized, starting at $200,000 and ranging up to a cool million dollars!

RE: First time buyer. Tell me why I should buy a fifth wheel!
http://www.cool-smileys.com/images/16.gifto the RV.Net Forum!
Scratch the 5er off your list, and start working on a quality TT, up to 28 or so length. You'll still have your pickup bed for carrying surplus camping supplys and ice chests. And you will feel more comfortable keeping your truck stress free and not overloaded.
Springdale is made by the giant manufacturer Keystone, with over 20 brands, some different only in the name on the side. 1 year warranty.
Look at the Jayco line, like an Eagle Lite. You'll get way more standard equipment and quality for your money, Jayco's tow well, and you'll get the best 2 year warranty and customer service in the industry from the largest family owned RV company in the USA, same family for 42 years.
They build their RV's cabinets in their own wood mill from scratch, with screwed stile construction like fine furniture (not stapled, glued or screwed like others), real Manchester oak drawer and door frames, real wood (not particle board or wafer wood). Jayco also builds their own furniture and mattresses! All with long term Amish workers, some there for 35 years and more.
Standard stuff on the Jayco? Outside shower, chrome hub caps, sink cutting boards, folding range cover, 12 volt powered electric Carefree awning, all holding and water tanks are insulated and heated! Bead foam insulation with Mylar foil in the roof, R-9 insulation! Springdale uses fiberglass batting.
More standards...A Fantastic Fan vent, American made Goodyear ST Marathon tires and Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes, Dexter EZ-Lube axles Multi-Media Premium Sound System™ AM/FM/CD/DVD stereo with MP3 input jack are all standard on the Jayco, not available or options on the Springdale.
Jayco had also used Leland Frames for many years, engineered cambered Class I Structural real steel frames, not Lippert frames.
Good luck!
RE: Question for Jayco 26P Owners
2010 Jayco 26P tv cabinet detail. The door frames the LCD TV, which is attached by swivel to the bracket seen here on the wall inside the cabinet. The cabinet door frame is hinged on the right, with 3 heavier hinges instead of the other cabinets 2 swmaller hinges, indicating that it in fact does open and swivel towards the master bed area with the LCD attached.
As far as the Satellite Box, you can get a infra-red remote or a wireless remote unit, so it can be concealed in the cabints behind the tv.
RE: Starting a controversy on RV Net
I refuse to be drawn into an argument about your holding tanks! Besides, if they're half empty, you're ok. If half full however, then you've just exceeded your tow vehicles GVWR. 1-800-weightpolice

RE: Keystone or Coachmen?
Coachman is owned by Forest River, the #2 largest RV manufacturer in the US with 20 brand names, churning out thousands of RV's like Santa's Elves!
Keystone is owned by Thor, the #1 largest RV Manufacturer in the US with over 20 brand names, some RV's are the same except the brand name sticker.
Of those 2 brands, Coachman is likely the better of the two, as after they were absorbed by Forest River a couple of years ago, they retained some of the Coachman Management, and the original Coachman has been around since 1964 after 3 brothers founded it.
RE: Mattress commits suicide on highway
Suicide! Suicide? You're all making very light of this horrible situation! I honestly think that the woman driver had a love affair with this mattress, found that it had cheated on her and she deliberately ran it over. It was made to LOOK like an accident.
Please note that no suicide note was found, which is indicative that the mattress (Serta Perfect Sleeper) literally had no thoughts of killing himself. Where is Detective Monk when you need him!
