RE: What is boondocking and dry camping?

Mandolin Guy, The best way to answer you is what a friend of mine did when his wife kicked him out of the house and he went out to the motorhome started it up and drove off. She is still looking for him after 15 years. Seems the best part of his wife and home was when he saw it in his rear view mirror. Regards, Paul

RE: What is boondocking and dry camping?

Greetigs, what type of a motorhome would be good for a dry/boondocking situation considering no finished roads or other refinements. The tag axle units and larger bus units might have problems in rural areas we would want to seek out. I travelled with a pickup camper south to north and back in June of 66 and had a ball but things have changed but there are still places to go and see. What about a 45 footer diesel pusher with tag axle are they go to go on a limited off road situation? comments please. regards Paul

RE: Am I missing something or is this a great deal?

Greetings, had an opportunity to search for a deal on a class a motorhome diesel pusher and what we found was a real eye opener. We like the beaver and felt that we would have to get a real deal to make us move. There is a Beaver 2008 new coach left over in Texas and the dealer is saying he will look at any reasonable offer. We went further into dealer inventory and found 2009s and 2008s from monaco that were being discounted to under a hundred thousand. The Monaco situation is getting worse day by day and who knows maybe we will be in the right place at the right time. Buying a motorhome is a lot like buying a laptop computer where you wait and see the increases in capability but there comes a time when we have to decide when to move and the situation as it exists now is just that time. The bottom has fallen out of the market for sure and discounts will continue and we are ready to jump in as we ride the the wave down.Business is business and what some others see a problem we see as and opportunity. Good luck as a qualified buyer with financing you are a rare breed at this time. Regards Paul

RE: Class A at 20% below "Low Retail".

we were quite interested in the beaver marquis used 1,2,3 years old and found a 2006 nicely optioned and the seller just wanted out gave me a price of 290,000 he had decided what equity he had he would forego. The coach is top of the line at beaver and has all the new technology multiplex wiring, collision avoidance,8.5 genset, and much more. he was at 51% of the purchase price and ready to deal. The coach at lazydays has now crossed the first year depreciation of 18% and with the package i was offerred i'm near. Some folks in the know told me that when you drive the off the lot the price drops 30% but I can't verify that. The time is good for us and we plan to keep the coach forever therefore we don't care about further depreciation if we can get the price we want going in. it has been said you make money when you buy so go for it. RE: Class A at 20% below "Low Retail".

greetings we have been researching new and used units for sale class a and have had offers that are spectacular. The accumulated depreciation is hard to argue against on used older units 5years. The process is first year depreciation is 18%,second year 10%, third year 8%, fourth year 7% and year five 6% add up these yearly figures and at five years and you get 48%.I went to laztdays and saw a coach I liked priced at 640,599 and the sales man offered the unit 23% less than retail. I negotiated the price more and got 10% more and after several more discussions the sales manager said Monaco had some built in room and asked me what my bottom line was and I said 50% off msrp at which time he said he would talk to Monaco. He did not throw me out or say no so what you pay is what you can negotiate in these times of decline. I expect to call the sales manager next week and see their bottom line and I expect to be surprised in the 40% plus range. There are many ways to justify your negotiations and you must remember you are the most valuable person they know a customer. Regards

RE: Full-timing - Budget Worksheet - file fixed! Updated 1-21-09

we observed a couple full timing in a class a coach where they went to yard sales then flea markets searching for deals and small items to establish and inventory which they would then take north and west visiting flea markets and making a decent profit selling their inventory. They wanted a class a because of storage and they were real good at finding resalable items to the point that they covered six months expenses and had not failed at any time. They have a good budget system and if they need more funds they go more often to yard sales. I was amazed at their sucesses and witnessed there approach.Flea markets allow them to stay for the sales and are glad to have them overnite for added security as long as they stay self contained. They know what sells like a retail business and both are experts in not buying or wanting junk. It was a real education for me and pass this along for those who might have an interest.

RE: Down to Three

we are out of the country looking for a class a unit and have really learned a lot reading these forum replys. We are focusing on the beaver by monaco used and have found a gold mine of opportunities, we can go to the archives section of the beaver email address and compare the standard and optional lists for years we are considering which leads to internet searches on google to find specifics like aquahot etc, monaco has answered directed questions and the folks here are really the best as they are great with advice and information

RE: Cost of maintaining a DP

Buying an older low mileage coach makes sense both in the wallet and in reality from our research.Example the newest technology is wonderful and promises great expectations and adds significantly to the bottom line. We shade tree mechanics find that just to find why a multiplex wiring system has a problem we need to buy a sophisticated tester(2000usd) and know the codes just to find solutions to simple problems. There are many systems that advance the market but when it all boils down to our reality the solutions always require a visit to the service center and a guy in a white coat takes you money and smiles. I am looking at older low mileage coaches and very comfortable with the decision.

RE: Cost of maintaining a DP

research conducted reveals some interesting information for instance the new motorhome depreciates 15% the first year and if you compare the manufacturers discounts immediately of 30 % and the use the MSRP on the new price some reality takes place. Each year the market discounts the MSRP by 10% so if I find a 2004 coach that interests me I can expect a 53% discount from the MSRP not using the 30% manufactures are adding. I applied the normal course of events and found that 53% is acceptable and sure enough I found prices the same as predicted using 15% year 1,10% year 2, year10% year 3, 10% year 4 and with year 5 being 8% as dictated by the market. We now have food for thought smile
