RE: Electric Tongue Jack Blowing Fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone. I followed the intructions and lubed the gears as I put it back together and it works like a charm. Still I'm going to install the 30 amp auto circut breaker as most all jacks will blow a fuse if you reverse to quickly.

RE: Electric Tongue Jack Blowing Fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Could you be a little more specific? Remove the power head? And then adjust what? I think I remember this from the instructions but have forgotten how to adj. It has been a long time since I installed the jack. It has always blown fuses and I just carry a few extra but now have the time to work on it.
thanks again,

Electric Tongue Jack Blowing Fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Barker tongue that has a 30 amp inline fuse that will blow the fuse if I raise the jack till it stops (all the way up and pop). It works perfect as long as I stop raising the jack before it tops out. I think there is an adj. but just dont know. Anyone know what's going on and how to remedy?
Thanks,

RE: Thousand Trails Texoma

#1 - You need to go online to their website and post your gripe to them.
#2 - You should look for forums in Yahoo that are for TT and post your gripe there - someone WILL listen
#3 - He was right - they were built many years ago - and they are trying to update to 50 amp but not all are done yet
#4 - You wouldn't have to pay full price -- if you'd do a TT search here you'd find out you can get them on the secondary market much cheaper
#5 - So - if it doesn't work for you, move on. That's what's great about America - no one forces it down your throat. Big RV resorts don't work for me, but I don't get online and trash them.
I agree with this poster 100%. All the Thousand Trail Preserves I've visited have been what I expected. They are mostly if not all PRESERVE campgrounds and are very much like State Parks in that they attempt to preserve the nature that they are in. TT has been bought by a new coop. owner and is undergoing major upgrading but it takes time. And it will still have preservation as its theme. One great advantage I have in being a member of TT is I know how much it will cost me to camp all next year as I will only pay the maint. fee and can camp as often as I want for free. At some of the campground/resorts I've checked at, the rates go as high as $40-$60 per night and I fear it is only going to go up. Even SP/county camping is getting up there and there are a lot of SP's closing across the country.
Also, I bought my membership on the secondary market for a bargain.
Big RV Resorts don't work for me either.

RE: St George Island State Park, Fl

We go to St. Joe every winter from Christmas to after New Years and love it. Do take your bikes as either park offers great biking. I would not try to park in the Shady Pines area with a 30' TT but there are a good many sites that you could use in the Gulf Breeze area. SJ is way out on a penninsula and the bay side offers a great area for kayaking or fishing. The sea side offers great ocean with snow white sandy beaches and almost clear blue water and as said before, unspoiled beaches. Also, SJ is about midway between Port St. Joe and Applachacola (little closer to PSJ).

RE: 3 Way Ref. Not Working On DC

Thanks for the replies. I thought all the new campers, TT, MH, and fivers come with 3 way ref. My TT is a 97. Anyway what do ya'll do when traveling, just leave the gas on? As I said, that's what I have always done and it works great that way. Just left the gas off this trip due to the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel requirment. They did not check but did ask if my gas was off at the toll booth.

3 Way Ref. Not Working On DC

Just got back from a trip thru the Chesapeake Bay Tunnels. Usually tow TT with with gas on and had thought that with the ref set to "auto" it automaticaly run on 12 volts when tow vehicle is running and would only switch to gas when I stopped and turned off the TV engine. Usually the ref will be very cold as I travell even to the point that it not only keeps ice cream but it freezes it so hard it is difficult to scoop. Had to turn off gas to enter the tunnels and left it off and noticed that the ref did not cool while traveling. Ref was set to auto.
Any ideas/
Thanks,
Tony

Virginia Landing Update

We camped there from Sat., June 27 thru Mon. July 6. Our first time and we loved it. Mosquitoes were not a problem as we were ready for them with spray, citronella dispensers and so forth but not ready for the no see ums. The tiny nats that sting like a fire ant and fly right thru screens. We liked it so much that I'm doing a research on how to deal with them and planning a trip back to VL late July so we can see the Pony Swim at Chincoteague Island Va. July 29 and 30. The preserve was well maintained. Bath houses were clean and in good repair. Wildlife was abundant, deer, turkey, and 100's of Canadian Geese.
This is a large 800 acre preserve and great for biking, hiking canoeing and doing nothin. For those that are road bicyclists like us, the area is a bikers haven. Nice country roads, little to no or usually slow traffic that waves at ya and great history. I visited the local Chamber to get the history of the small rural communities and towns and used the info as we toured the area on bikes. The locals are so friendly. Someone must have told them that we are stimulating their economy. :-) And the temps were great. I mean lows in the 60's at night and highs in the mid 70-mid 80s with 35% humity and an almost always nice ocean breeze was unbeleavable. 9 days and I was not ready to leave for my 550 mile trip home.
As Arnold said, "I'll be back".
Thanks Eastern Shore folks,
We Love Ya'll,
Tony & Callie

RE: Battery Charging, Home Base

It's a converter that charges a battery, and what would make you think you need to remove the caps?
Just something I read a long time ago. Also I was told to remove the battery caps when using a charger to recharge car batteries.
Thanks,
Tony

RE: Topsail and Bike Trailer

We used this cart for the bike ride to the beach at Topsail. We strapped it to the back of our bike (to a small book type rack on back) and it worked well.

Got any pictures?
Would love to know how you attached it to your bike rear rack. I have both of the carts and have considerd attaching them to our bikes.
Thanks,

Battery Charging, Home Base

This may have been ask before. When you are at home and are plugged in to get ready to leave, the inverter trickle charges the house battery so do you remove the caps if your battery is not a maintinance free battery? I just installed 2 new 6 volt batteries and when I hooked them up, I removed the caps and placed a paper towell over the holes. This morning, the batteries were lightly bubbling and the towells were slightly soiled from the process. I normally leave the camper plugged in and leave the ref on until I have time to unload it but have had maint. free 12 volts until now.

RE: Virginia Landing Campground

You all are the greatest. Thanks so much. I'm making notes and taking all your advice. Love visiting all small towns when we go camping and doing our part to stimulate the local economy. :-) Thanks also for the info about eating. That's another thing I love to do when camping.lol
Anyone know why the area we will be camping is called "Hog Island Bay"?

RE: Virginia Landing Campground

Directions to Virginia Landing. It is on the Hog Bay side.
From Norfolk: Take Hwy 13 over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to the eastern shore town of Painter. Note: Automobiles on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel are charged a toll of $10, depending on axles; some RVs are charged more than twice this amount. At the traffic light, take a right onto Hwy 182. Follow Hwy 182 to the town of Quinby and take a right on Hwy 605. The preserve is located 6 miles from Quinby.

Thanks but strange as it may seem when I contacted them (TT), they told me to contact an OW campground. Figured whoever the employee I talked with may have not known what he was talking about so I posted it here.

RE: Virginia Landing Campground

Thanks Julie in Virginia, that is the kind of info we are looking for. We too like to just relax and enjoy God's creation when we camp and to get away from a lot of the hustle that others love. That is why we like State Park, and TT Preserve type camping. Even when the kids were with us, they learned to love SP camping with all that nature has to offer. This will be our first venture into the area and you have helped us abunch.

Outdoor World Membership

I have owned a Platinum TT/Naco membership for a number of years and enjoyed it very much. Now that we are both retired, we have more time to travel and would like to add OW to our TT due to the number of OW facilities near us (east of the Mississipi). Is this possible and how?

I notice that a number of folks have looked but no responses. What we're looking for is places to eat or avoid, things to do in the area, and what is Quinby like?

RE: Thousand Trails levels of membership

We also purchased a resale Platinum Membership about 10 years ago and are very pleased with it. We bought at a great discount as well just after attending one of their free offers and hearsing the pitch. We were given the name of the person who had the PM and contacted them. The actually faxed their membership to us so we could review the actual contract. Thousand Trail Member Services were very helpful and clinched the deal. We originaly purchased due the rising popularity of camping and the problems we were haveing finding preferable sites during peak times. After 9-11 (increase in camping) and now with the number of State Parks either closing or threatening to close, we feel our membership will be more valuable in the future. We never even considered the dollar value with the future sale of our membership. Can't put a dollar value on my membership due to the memories and fun we have had with it so far. Nice to know that after we have paid your annual dues, our major expense to camp is fuel as the site is paid for. :-) Helps to budget for camping when we don't have to count number of days times $30-$65 per night! We also love SP camping and the general style of TT is a "PRESERVE" which means they try to maintain a natural environment at their campgrounds.
Our Platinum is TT/Naco.
