RE: Problems setting up water expansion tank

You need to find out what the cut-in pressure is on your pump. Try this.
With the gauge connected to the expansion tank, slowly crack open a faucet and monitor the gauge. At one point the pump will start, that's you cut-in pressure and that is what your expansion tank should be set at.
Now that 24psi (which sounds way low) is your cut-off pressure and is probably why the expansion tank isn't doing it's job. There isn't enough range between the cut-in and cut-off pressures.
But, do the above and let us know what the cut-in pressure is.

RE: AGM battery rescue?

I'm by no means an expert, but being an AGM user/abuser I've looked into it.
For a little light reading try RESTORING CAPACITY AND EXTENDING USEFUL LIFE IN VRLA AGM BATTERIES THROUGH THE PROCESS OF REHYDRATION AND CATALYST INSTALLATION

RE: Xantrex RS3000 install in my Toy Hauler...

Thanks ozhoo!
Do you still have a battery cut-off switch inside your rig? I'm assuming that is still wired up and functioning, right?

RE: Xantrex RS3000 install in my Toy Hauler...

Just flip the breaker off that goes to your converter or you can remove it. I left mine in place to use in the event that the Xantrex fails.
As for a secondary panel. I just picked one up at Home Depot and installed in the basement.

I've got 14 pesos that says the other box is a transfer switch. Don't ask for more, 14 pesos is all I have.

Check your GFI outlet. They usually slip one in the bathroom or kitchen outlets.

Nope. Just keep it in mind if you ever care to run your rig off an extension cord.

RE: Xantrex RC-7 Question

Jim,
That setting is only used to prevent the charger from pulling too much current while you're trying to run other A/C appliances.
Where it comes in handy is when you're on something like say a 15amp extension cord. Lower it 15 (or less) and the charger will throttle itself back based on your other a/c loads.

RE: Utah --- public lands, boondocking, see the canyons

Here's where I am and have been boondocking for the past couple of months. Just outside Zion near Gooseberry Mesa. I come here for the biking, but there's loads of atv trails around.

Yep, leaky valve. Though not a high failure rate item, due to it's critical nature I keep a spare onhand.

RE: Shore power cable into inverter?

Flip through the other pictures. Here's one for just the batteries, while the entire shebang can bee seen here.
A RS/MS series inverter/charger has a built in 100A charger that would replace your existing converter. My frig gets switched manually to LP. If ever I get off my lazy but I'll add two more solar panels and another 220aH of batteries to handle running the frig.

RE: Shore power cable into inverter?

I'd recommend that you look into a Xantrex RS2000 and increase your battery bank considerably. I use a MS2000 w/ 660ah of batteries. A little overkill perhaps on the batteries but not much. And like has already been mentioned use a separate panel to handle the non-inverter loads. Here's my ac diagram.
I used to have the water heater on the non-inverter panel but now use my excess solar to heat water in the middle of the day.

Try not to do it during rush hour. I've made that mistake through ATL a few times and swear like a bus driver every time. Use 285 whenever possible to avoid going straight through the worst parts.

Make sure nothing else is running on A/C while the compressor is starting up. One that often gets overlooked is the converter.

RE: Water Heater overheating

If I weren't off the grid I'd test this one. I'm guessing that in addition to lighting during lock out that the light also illuminates when the ECO switch is tripped.
The ECO trips at 180 while the T&P doesn't blow until 210, so what I'm thinking is that you have a faulty thermostat.
Any volunteers on the grid willing to bypass their thermostat and test this one?

RE: At what volt to charge deep cycle and calculating life

Exactly, a gas gauge for you batteries. No more measuring voltage (under load) and trying to interpolate your battery state. Simply look at the meter and read the percentage.
Loads of folks use the Trimetric 2020 while I prefer the Xantrex meters simply because everything else that I have is Xantrex.

RE: Electrical & air cond. problem

The AC isn't working because the thermostat needs +12VDC which would be supplied by the converter via the furnace. Check the fuses on the converter not just the one on the distribution panel.
