Today I started to clean my awning which is vinyl. It has'nt been cleaned in about a year,so it was pretty dirty. I was spraying on some of that reliable 1 cleaner which works fairly well, when my wife came outside with one of those Mr. Clean magic erasers.
Holy Cow! my awning looked like it was brand new. That little sponge took off all of the grime and mildew like nothing I've ever seen.
Never again will I buy that expensive awning cleaner.
The only bad thing is you can't use it on fiberglass as it is abrasive.

My daughter brought me some of those, and I can't say enough about them! I now refer to Mr. Clean as "Mr. Wonderful"!

Jambro, if they are to abrasive for fiberglass, why are you using them on your awning.

Well I did the first thing my wife told me to, which was to test it in an inconspicuos area. After doing a small portion of the awning and seeing how it rinsed right off I figured it would be safe.
But, when I go camping next week and all that's left of my awning is a roller tube I'm sure my wife would say " I told you not to clean the awning with that"
It says on the package contains mild abrasives which is why it should'nt be used on fiberglass and it also did not take any of the color off of my awning.

For the past several years I have taken the lazy man's way of cleaning the awning. First I mix some zip-wax and water, Brush onto the awning and then roll it up, Wait for about ten minutes and open awning and rinse off. Works great for me.........

A moderate mixture of Simple Green and water cleans the awning really well too.

I've used those Mr. Clean Magic sponges on everything, and I mean EVERYTHING including getting the bugs off the front of the trailer. Cleanest trailer in the park this weekend! Work great on black marks on the vinyl floor to rub marks inside the fridge. Don't even ned the elbow grease!

Do be careful using anything that is abrasive, sure it will clean well, but it also leaves minute scratchmarks which will allow a quicker build up of dirt and grime.
You are much better off using something like simple green or a citrus based cleaner. It might be a little harder and slower but will actually leave a cleaner surface.
