I had the same problem. I used a few different methods, but in the end there is no noticible odor.

After thorough cleaning, I wiped it out with vinegar and left a 1/4" of vinegar set in the bottom of the freezer for a few days. Then I put a paper bag of charcoal in the freezer, changing it every day with new. After a week of that, it was a box of baking soda and turning the fridge on and letting it get cold. I maybe used 4 or 5 boxes over a couple of weeks.

Overall, it took almost a month but all is just fine now.

Try cleaning it out with one of those "orange" cleaners and then put a box of Arm & Hammer it it while running it. Has worked for me in the past. Good luck.

Our Fridge went out this summer and we didn't notice for a week or so.
we tried baking soda and every other idea.
Coffee grounds is the only thing that will really work to get the smell out for good. Just get some fresh coffee grounds and put them ion a bowl or just open a can of coffee and put it in the freezer. It will absorb all of the Funky smell!!
Good luck... and we don't leave meat in ours anymore, even if we are going to go again in a week or so.

Hi Sarge!
I used to work for a company that leased commercial refrigerators. Every once in a while, one would go out of business and the power would be shut off. After a week or two, the odor of rotten meat gets pretty bad.....The worst was a seafood restaurant that the IRS closed down - took two months to get the refrigerator out.

We used (believe it or not) urinal cakes. Put a couple of them in the refrigerator after cleaning it, and then close the door on it back up for a couple of days....Always did a great job for us!
