Where are some great places to camp in Michigan? We're getting our camper soon and want to get some ideas for this spring and summer. I know Aloha State Park in Cheboygan county is a beautiful campgrond with access to Mullett Lake and the Inland Waterway. I know we'll be going there, but we want to get some other options also. Thanks.

Michigan is a great state to camp in. We prefer the west coast along Lake Michigan. Places like Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears. Sleeping Bear Dunes and other things up around Traverse City. There's great places to go and campgrounds from South Haven all the way to the U.P.

Cooper Harbor, Munising, Porcupine Mt, Escanaba, Sault Ste. Marie, St Ignace in the U.P. Lower you have Petoskey, Traverse City, Ludington, Muskegon, Coldwater, Irish Hills, Alpena, anywhere along the Great Lakes, Houghton/Higgins Lake area. Just about every county has a great camping area.

Mackinaw Mill Creek just outside Mackinaw City. Great view of the bridge.
Also, Timber Ridge in Traverse City.

south higgens state park has beautiful beaches and swim areas and crystal clear water. It does tend to get roudy on the weekends though. Also Tawas point is a nice cg. Also sleeper state park is nice and you can watch beautiful sunsets from the beach.

I agree with most of whats here, We love the UP and to arrange a trip around waterfalls for example has been great fun in the past, in the lower peninsula we prefer Rifle River State Recreation area, it is over 4000 acres, with both modern and rustic camping, miles of hiking trails, trout streams and several lakes, eagle nest to view and lots of bike riding opportunities. have fun

You really can't go wrong throughout most of northern lower Michigan, or the UP.

There are also some great Provincial Parks in Canada that are close to you. Go to the Ontario governament web site and ask them to send you information.
Wilderness SP has some very nice sites and lots of hiking, etc. Sleeping Bear is our favorite.

IMHO, the best place to find outstanding family camping opportunities in Michigan is on the US National Forest Campground Guide {http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/list/nflist.htm#michigan} but I'm bias
