RE: Counting propane as tongue weight.

Three pages on a simple topic that is now becoming argumentative and with people repeating themselves. Time to put this one to bed.

RE: Jordan 2000-2020 users, need advice

Can you even buy this brake control any more? I thought they went out of business or something like that.
No you cannot. They were bought out by (I think) Camco but Camco never put it on the market again. Too bad!

RE: Fifth Wheel Capabilities Truck

Snip... I still feel like a fifth wheel will be a better towing experience compared to a 35 foot travel trailer. Am I wrong to assume that? I wish I had diesel but it was not in my budget for the new truck.
If you are presently towing with a Hensley hitch then NO, the towing experience will not be any better with a 5th wheel and could be worse. There are other reasons for going to a 5th wheel from a TT towed with a Hensley but towing experience is not one of them. :)

I agree with both of the above unless your owners manual recommends against it - which I doubt.

RE: Hitch Bar

Nothing wrong at all with the extra room as long as the truck handles well. Many people would give their left arm to have that much extra room! :W
This extra distance will allow you to turn sharper without worrying about hitting the trailer with the truck, and allow you to lower the tailgate and work back there without unhooking the trailer. I would not complain as long as the truck can handle it ok. Consider yourself lucky! :)

RE: I just ordered a back up mirror

DRUM - I love the way RV NET handles the attached photos. They give you good control on the picture size. Some of the other forums don't have this and you have to size the picture yourself before adding as an attachment. gets complicated...
You didnt have to delete the photo - Under ADVANCED POST FORM just select the IMAGE ICON and fill in the blanks for your photo to be added. just fill in the HEIGHT entry as 200,300, up to 600 only - don't fill in the WIDTH entry leave it blank.
Roy Ken
That may be correct for that particular photo BUT:
For most normal photos just put 640 (or any smaller number) in the "width" box (NOT the "height" box. Leave the "height" box empty. The forum software will then properly size your picture.
If you photo is taller than wide, as when you take a picture with the camera tilted 90 degrees, then you can put the number in the "height" box and leave the other one empty. If you put 640 into the "height" box on a normal picture then the width will be way too wide and cause many members to have to scroll left and right to read the posts on that page.
Keep in mind that you can use any number that is smaller than 640.

RE: Most reliable connector. semi 7 pin or RV blade ?

I don't quite understand the dislike of the standard connector. I have been towing trailers for quite a few years and have never had a single problem come up due to the connector between the trailer and the truck. I think the majority of the members on this forum would probably say the same. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. :W

RE: Need advice on toy hauler swaying on freeway

When using the tongue weight scale, be careful that you get the weight pressing STRAIGHT DOWN on the scale. It is very easy, when you put the device under the coupler, to have it just a very small bit off center of the coupler which will cause sticktion in scale and throw off the reading quite a bit. Good idea to take several readings in succession to make sure it is consistant.

RE: Where to buy Torklift Propane lock?

Torklift sells direct if you can't find it locally.
Look Here
I'm not so sure they do sell directly. The link that says "buy it now" on their website goes to a list of states and then to a list of dealers in the state. I saw no place on the website to purchase directly from them.

RE: Need advice on toy hauler swaying on freeway

Okay, now you're scaring the heck out of me. :) Guess I still have a lot to learn. I would have thought that if the truck by itself weighed 5000 lbs without a trailer and 5500 lbs with one, the TW would be 500 lbs. 5500-5000=500?
True, if you have the trailer sitting on a regular ole hitch ball. Not the case with weight distribution, since the trailer axles have to react the same moment which picks up the back of the truck and put weight on the front axle.
So, assuming it was a WD Hitch, would the TW be more or less than 500 lbs.?
It would be less. It would be around 400lbs if you weighed it with the WD hitched up. The extra 100lbs would be found on the trailer axles because the chains on the WD hitch are pulling down on the trailer A frame at the same time they are pulling up on the bars.

RE: "P" tire designation vs. "LT"

My opinion is that as long as the tires are well within the weight rating of your truck when loaded, and as long as the rig handles well on the road, then I would keep them until ready to be replaced. I would keep them aired up to near or at the max sidewall pressure for stiffness when towing and keep an eye on the tread to make sure you are not over pressuring them and causing undo wear.
I do not think you would be unsafe using the stock tires as long as handling is good.

RE: Wintering in San Antonio area

We spent Jan and Feb in San Antonio several years ago and March in Kerrville. We had a great time in both areas and would love to go back there again. We did have a few days of freezing weather in January and the hill country had snow and ice for several days but that did not interfere with our enjoyment of the area. Most days were sunny and fairly warm. Lots to do and very friendly people.

RE: Moving a small TT with this..

As stated above, I would just put a receiver on the front of the truck. Much easier, safer, and probably cheaper. Don't even need a 4WD vehicle to use one.

RE: Hitch and components selection

I would add about 200-300lbs to the advertised brochure tongue weight and purchase a hitch with bars rated 200-300lbs above that number.

RE: WDH/equalizer and hitch receiver advice for newbie

I agree with the post above by APT. When selecting your hitch, I would pick one with bars rated for about 200-300lbs above what the actual loaded, ready to camp hitch weight is. If you have no way of getting that number before purchasing the hitch I would add 300lbs to the brochure advertised weight and purchase a hitch rated 200-300lbs above that number. After looking up your trailer, I also agree that 1000lb bars would be appropriate.

RE: Manufacturer Compatibility

In most cases they are compatible as far as I know. I used round DrawTite bars in a Eaz-Lift hitch head for years. I know for sure that the DrawTite and Reese round bars are interchangeable as they are both made by the same company.
