RE: 2012 Raptor with Towmasters = BOOOM!!!

I had 2 sets of Maxxis ST tires, 6 of 8 of them separated.
The good thing, they did not explode and damage the rig, the bad thing, I had to buy more tires.

RE: 2012 Raptor with Towmasters = BOOOM!!!

I spent 20 years in tire shops, everything from mounting/balancing them to being the service manager/asst. manager of the store., Add to that another 24+ years working in a fleet of ~ 2000 pieces of equipment that had tires. If there is such a tire, I am not aware of it, I do have many contacts and friends in the industry, seems odd that NONE of them will put ST tires on anything they own. I have another friend who owns a towing company and a big fan of custom and classic cars. He bought a couple of enclosed car haulers so He could transport custom/classic vehicles for some of His clients.
Hey MrKnowitallBOB!!! this post was about taking CHINABOMBs off and replacing with good tire.!!
Nothing about I'm looking to hire someone whos worked in tire shop so post your resume :B
So, why don't you post where a "good tire" comes from ??
I'm retired and not looking for a job.

RE: Cyclone 2812

Thanks for the reply's
Budman, I need to measure both the Attitude/Stellar and the Cyclone height and make sure the Rhino will fit. The Rhino has made Us rule out several rigs with separate garages since many are only 10'. I think you can get a single bed in the rear, but not sure.

RE: 2012 Raptor with Towmasters = BOOOM!!!

How many posts are we going to see about crappy ST tires? I don't care if they are in 16" size or 15" size. People are fooling themselves trying to run these. It is only a matter of time until you have an issue.
Anyone with a big heavy toyhauler should be converting over to LT tires.
Looka here....RV.net/Toyhaulers has a certified Mr Knowitall on Toyhauler tires :B
Actually, yes. I have had so many PMs over the years asking about LT tires, people thanking me for convincing them to switch over. Sorry you haven't learned that yet.
Keep reading young Jedi and you will figure this out.
Yea i'm a (Young Jedi) at dealing with trailers/ trailers tires.....since the other toys i referred to ride on triple axle boat trailer, in a 28ft enclosed and on 40ft gooseneck to name a few of my trailers!!
I'm thinkin maybe some of u Mr. KnowitAlls oughtta take break from RV.NET and watch lil porn.. :B
Back on topic!!!! If you got CHINA BOMBs on your camper.. Go ahead and replace them with good tire before they go KA BOOOM:)
Since you seem to know what ST tire is a "good tire" please let Us know what brand.

The first thing that gets changed, THE TIRES !!!
One of His clients owns a tire shop, guess where I went for advice on tires. The tire shop guy didn't want to sell Me the tires, He wanted Me to go to a national chain store and get them since I travel and might need warranty service elsewhere. I trust My Friends as well as my own personal experience

I stand behind Mr Knowitall !!
Thanks Bob!!!!! :)
NO PROBLEM
I should have listened to You sooner
My new rig will have 16" rims to start with and as soon as I get over the "down payment blues", it will be sporting L T's :B

Cyclone 2812

One of the remaining 2 rigs I am considering
Anybody have one and what are you towing it with ??
IF the "dry weight" is correct or close, I should be OK with my T V.
I know the Max GVW is over what my rig is rated for, but I am not planning to load it up to 14K.
obviously batteries/propane/gas and water add some weight, I have a ~1250# Rhino and a ~275# D S bike.
DW likes the bedroom slide over the Attitude/Stellar Bedroom.
T V is rated at 12.5 to 13K depending on whose chart I look at.
Thanks

Fifth Wheel hitch

I am nearing the process of selling Our T H and moving up to a Fiver.
My question relates to who makes a decent hitch for my T V ?
08 GMC 2500 HD D Max 4X4 long bed.
All the rigs were interested in weigh 14K or less and at least 2 are under 12.5K.
Don't need a slider since its a long bed.
Don't want something they have to "carve up" the truck to make it fit.
Being a mechanic all my life, I want it done right and preferably minimal cutting/drilling.
Dealer can do it, but I would prefer having a choice and hearing the "good/bad/ugly" of any particular models.
Thanks

RE: Flipping Shackles

When I was flipping my axles, I had the entire 5th wheel up on jack stands. While the axles were suspended above the ground all the shackles and springs settled in the lower position you described. When I put the 5th wheel on the ground they all moved back into the original position.
YEP
From someone who has worked on brakes and suspension for ~45 years.
Works on some cars & trucks, not on MOST trailers.

RE: Supplies for your Toy Hauler/Trailer

Other than food/drink, and some specific clothing related to what season it is, we try to keep everything in the hauler and ready to go.
Makes for less forgotten items.
It took a few years to collect enough stuff to do this without spending a lot of $$
The downside to this, I am trying to find space to unload all the stuff and store it while we sell or trade in the rig until we get a new one :h

RE: Generators

I saw an add listing the 2K Honda for $925, about 1/2 of a 3K.
Lighter, smaller, quieter and enough for most anything you will need.
It won't run our 13.5K A/C, but I have a portable A/C that it will run.

RE: Pet owners warning

I thought I would bring this back up about a year later, Y-Guy suggested I post an update rather than a new thread.
We took Ryder back to a refresher class on Saturday, He was the one who went "face to face" with a rattler last April. He did very well this time and they only "zapped" Him once.
I was talking to the Dog trainers who hosted the class and to the trainers from "High On Kennels" who did the class, they were concerned that He did not learn from the first class.
I assured them that He did, He got away from the snake and sat next to Me until I led Him away. They put Him thru a little extra training just to make sure he got the message.
I spoke with several others who were at the class with their dog(s) and they all were glad to hear that the class works. Just this past weekend we spoke with 2 others who have had dogs bitten recently, It can and does happen. We saw several dogs that literally went after the snakes, not a good thing for sure.
There are many others who do the class, just search for "Snake avoidance classes" and find one in your area. Highonkennels.com does many local classes in San Diego and Riverside Counties.
Ryder is here today because of the class, a Mojave Green is the most deadly of the snakes we have around here and He very likely would not have survived long enough to get him to help.
Thanks

RE: Deep discount on 1 model year old TH?

In one case its just the exterior color and a few tiny details.
.
that is being way too picky IMHO.
bumpy
If Momma isn't happy, no body is going to be happy !!
One of the salesman was talking to Me about how I liked this and that, I said all I am looking for is a rig I can safely tow, Our Rhino will fit in and has decent customer service, Momma makes all the other decisions ;)

RE: Deep discount on 1 model year old TH?

The rigs we have looked at had a "sale price" 8K less than the list.
They are pushing the 2013 left overs on Us, even though they are not exactly what We want.
The dilemma for Us, take them up on the offer and save a good amount of money even though a few things are not what we would prefer or wait for the rig we want.
In one case its just the exterior color and a few tiny details.
Probably going back out this next weekend and see if they can make a better offer.

RE: Bigger Freshwater Tank

I always wondered why they put 110 gal fresh, 40 grey and 40 black, am I supposed to drink 30 gallons of water ??
I guess the outside shower would account for some, if you have a pressure washer that would account for some more. I used to carry extra water, but I quit hauling it around after never using all the fresh water and filling the grey to overflow on a 5 day trip. One of the rigs we have looked at has a 170 gal fresh and 50/50 grey/black, where does the extra 70 gallons go ??
My Son ripped off the tank drain on His T T, we plugged it up and fed him some water on a 4 day trip and still never ran out.

RE: First trip and need new tires

The G614's weighed a good deal more bare than my factory installed Towmax tires weighed still mounted on the rims! A lot more tire there...Yup, almost twice as much!
The thin tires on wheels I could lift onto the studs while kneeling. Now my R250s (about the same weight as G614s) I have to sit on the ground with the wheel in my lap and lift the wheel with my legs
Be careful with that, if the jack fails your legs will be pinned, don't ask how I know.
I was lucky I was only slightly pinned and someone was able to lift the car enough that I got my leg out with out damage.
