RE: Question (again) from the road

Mine has that exact valve and yes it is an auto changeover valve.
PERFECT! Thank you!! :)
The valve has the manufacturer and model number on it which is the easiest way to get detailed .pdf manual for it.

RE: trailer tire/axle alignment

It doesn't sound like they were alligned when they were replaced. I had our campers axles removed and spacers put in so I could run 16" LT tires. All this was done and the axles alligned at the same time. We have not had any odd tire ware or blowouts since.

RE: Lippert Hydraulic pump

My Lippert hydraulic pump tank was leaking which soaked the carpet and pad in the adjacent area. After finding out the cost of sending in the old unit and getting a re-conditioned one from Lippert I figured that I would attempt my own repair.
I repaired the problem on my leaking tank and it now have been over two years and has not leaked a drop.
I first took photos of all the connections-electrical and hydraulic.
Disconnect the battery and remove all the electrical connections and hydraulic lines so you can remove the pump to an clean area you can work on it. Mine is in a very small tite compartment.
Drain the pump reservoir of pump oil.
On my model there are 4 bolts holding the tank to the main pump body.
Carefully slide the tank off avoiding damaging the O-Ring. (Note: Lippert refused to send me a replacement O-Ring and I could not find one of similar size at any of the shops around here.)
After running some tests on various materials I figured out that the hydraulic pump oil will NOT DISOLVE the YELLOW TEFLON TAPE used for gas lines. After cleaning the tank and area of the O-ring, leave the existing O-ring in place and put two raps of 1/2 inch wide yellow teflon tape over the existing O-ring. Carefully slide the tank back on being careful not to move or shift the teflon tape. Replace the bolts and tighten them until snug. Do not over tighten which could crack or deform the tank. Reinstall the pump and refill the tank with fresh hydraulic oil (Tracter supplies have this).
We have been out on a number of trips down some fairly rough roads with no leaks to date since my repair.

RE: Stolen Diesel Fuel

It has been a number of years back but they caught two guys in our parking garage who had been stealing gasoline. They had a setup using an electric fuel pump to pump fuel from a car they parked next to containers in the trunk of their car. No telling how long they had been getting away with it but they were caught with 10 - 5gallon cans full of fuel. It was lucky someone spotted them and turned them into building security.

RE: Have I plugged up my black tank drain?

Any opinions on using the granular septic tank treatments, designed for residential septic tanks or fields? I wonder if it's a little more powerful than the blue stuff? Just curious, I've got half a bottle somewhere that I thought might be worth using....
On our newest camper we have used this in the black and galley tank which requires only two ounces per 40 gallon tank. I put in around 5 gallons of water in the black and add it generally at the end of a trip. The tanks are always ready to go and no odor ever develops while in storage. PurePower is liquid and is made for RV use. There are a lot of other brands out there just look for the bacteria and enzyme types. Here is a link: PurePower RV tank treatment

RE: Have I plugged up my black tank drain?

Fill it with water now! Do not let it dry out any more or you will have a big problem. Letting it soak and dumping it on the next trip as you go in will probably cure the issue.

RE: Replacing shore power cable for plug.

Has anyone replaced there pull out shore power cable with an outlet like this one.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s143/Majja13/30aInlet_zps287734aa.jpg height=160 width=160
Mine works fine just thinking about closing any access points that allow little fury unwanted critters to get in is all.
Thanks
Majja
First modification I did to our camper -Marinco brand. This allows me to have different length power cables. The one I use the most is 45 feet long.
Check the link -- they make them for all amperages (30amp, 50amp, etc.)Check RV park power

RE: Fiver TV - 2002 F-350 Lariat 7.3L Diesel Dually

My 2000 F250 7.3 PowerStroke is a great diesel with 148k miles on it.
In the 4R100 transmission I have run AMSOIL and do not have the stiff 2-3 transition problem. I have dual transmission coolers and the transmission fluid and filter has been changed at 50k intervals so I am coming up on one in 2k. I have had one mechanic tell me this was over kill but small cost and transmission still towing. Engine oil and filter at 6000 mile intervals and fuel filter every third oil change. Air filters as needed.
It has been chipped since 2004 (with what I was told was a Ford approved chip kit at the time) and has never had a problem. I do not think it is as hot of performance as some out there but it does have the power and torque to haul our 18000# setup. The Ford service department has never said a thing when I have had it in for recall work and service.
On the older 7.3s with the standard green radiator fluid you need to add the anti cavitation additive. The 99 thru 2001 with the "green" coolant need the VC8/FW 16/FW15/DCA4 SCA to prevent cavitation damage and I would verify that this has been done for the life of the vehicle.
Since the low sulfur mandate I also add a cetane booster and injector lubricant/cleaner.
Have the Ravelco chip in the truck to prevent the bandits we have around here from taking it for a ride south.
No plans on trading or upgrading any time soon.

RE: Stolen Camper

We added the Ravelco during our first month in San Antonio, after DH's subs kept telling him his truck was going to be heading over the MX border soon.
The installer came out to DH's jobsite and did it one afternoon.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Being close to the border the odds are slim of finding it. Around five months ago a buddie had his new Suburban stolen while they went in to eat in San Antonio. The cops told him that the On-Star was disabled before it left the parking lot.
I had a Ravelco installed into my 2000 F250 shortly after I purchased it since the 7.3s were on the high target list. It will not even turn over the engine without the chip installed. Here is the link for those interested---

RE: Tools you pack along in your TT?

I have in the camper a number of PEX fittings to replace a cracked fitting. A 3 foot piece of PEX and two Shark-bite collars to replace a section if it blows. Luckily I haven't had to use it yet but have loaned pieces to camping buddies with leaks.
I found that is is handy to take a digital camera and photograph all the electric connections for the refrigeratior, water heater, AC unit, etc. Why? Because wires connections do shake loose while traveling and it is handy to have a color picture of where this wire hanging loose came from.

RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

On a previous camper (5800#) we were up in Colorado camping on a slope. The DW had pulled the chocks before we had it attached to the TV. It started rolling down hill and I jumped on the tongue to get the front jack stand to dig into the hillside to get it to stop rolling. We were lucky and hit a soft patch of soil and it dug in. All would have been lost if it had bent and failed.

RE: Which inline circuit breaker?

If you look at it real close you will probably fine that it is a 50A DC auto reset breaker. If the old one just quit look for a small pin size button which is the reset button. Our first camper had not-auto reset ones installed.

RE: "Pocket Hose" reviewed on Consumer Reports

We have a 75 foot one in the camper. I used it to wet the grass around the fire ring since it was dry as a precaution. No fire ban even though there was a camp fire in the park. Kept it handy (pressured up with spray nossel) just in case and used it to put out the coals when finished. Good for spraying off muddy dogs feet, kid toys, etc. Fits in a zip lock bag or a coffee can. Easier and lighter to carry that 75 feet of the other type of hose plus less space. Good addition to the camping stuff we carry. Got it a Wallie World.

RE: Can't make any Adjustments on my trailer brakes

I just went to a trailer rental shop (U-Haul in my case had one) and purchased a pre-wired 7-connector socket with adaptor. The adaptor plugged into the existing wiring harness on my truck.
One thing I forgot to mention I have seen a few wiring diagrams on the net that were just plane wrong/colors swithched/plug key drawn in the wrong place/etc.

RE: Anybody besides me using old school WD hitch?

Alignment --In simpler terms the worse pulling trailer I have ever towed was found to have left side axles center to hitch center versus right side axles center to hitch center off by 3/16 of an inch. Does not sound like much but it fought you all the time while towing.

RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

"the tongue jack bent over, both front scissors were folded over" :h It would take a heck of a lot of force to do this, I think there is more to what happened than "no chocks" and the camper rolled.

RE: Anybody besides me using old school WD hitch?

Traditional WD hitch and bars in use. My two cents but I have found that a well aligned and correctly balanced (loaded) camper being pulled by a properly setup and sized tow vehicle does not need one of the more complicated hitch assembly to mask or correct the under lying problems.
