RE: Refrig temp

Had a similar problem with our fridge in our '05 Safari Simba with a Norcold 8431. Freezer was good, but the lower wasn't as cold as it should be. No difference gas or electric, fridge not packed and aux. fan running inside.
Another poster suggested changing the thermistor. Apparently when they get defective they don't set the fridge to cool. Not a defrost cycle, but it just doesn't accurately sense the temperature change.
In our case that cured the problem for about $17. I was also thinking about either a new fridge or an Amish unit.

RE: Traveling from So Cal to Houston Texas

Almost the same as sdianel
Googlemaps for the route and to estimate where we will be,
Woodall's or the Trailer Life Directory to find the parks,
and rvparkreviews.com to hear what other people say about the parks before making the final decisions.
You can also plan your route on the Good Sam website and ask it to show you RV parks along your route.

RE: 05 monaco monarch se

We have a 2005 Safari Simba 33', which if I remember correctly is the same as the Monarch SE. We have been very happy with ours. We currently have over 17000 miles on ours with no major problems. Small stuff I was able to fix.

RE: Towing 2013 JKU

When in doubt....check the owner's manual...LOL. The dash power accessory port is ignition key controlled. There is a second power port in the center console, which is always powered.

Towing 2013 JKU

When I had a 2008 Wrangler I would pull the M1 and OPD fuses when towing. I understood that disconnected power to the brake circuit and instrument cluster. I had to leave the key in because of the steering wheel lock and to power the accessory port for the Brake Buddy. I am using a Cooltech wiring harness.
I now have a 2013 JKU that I am getting ready to do the same set up. From reading other posts I believe the 2013 does not have the steering wheel lock, so the ignition key is not needed. I have noticed the power accessory port is a keyed circuit.
Any other 2013 JKU owners using a Brake Buddy....did you wire a separate hot wire from your battery and disconnect the main connection or are you pulling the M1/OPD fuses and leaving a key in?

RE: flat tow steering question

I tie a light colored piece of cloth at 12 O'clock on the steering wheel with the front toad wheels straight. When we are on the road I can look in our rear view camera and if I can see the cloth at the top of the steering wheel then I know I am tracking straight. I tend to look all the time, but especially during/after turning and going in or out a driveway.
Good luck!!

RE: How is a Wrangler Unlimited when NOT being towed?

Several sites I found list the 2009 JKU at 4180 lbs with a hard top. Not sure if that is wet or dry weight.

RE: How is a Wrangler Unlimited when NOT being towed?

We now have a 2013 Wrangler 4dr, traded in a 2008 2dr a few months ago. I'm just finishing up setting the 4dr up for towing behind our motorhome, so I can't comment about that yet. I use it as a daily driver and nothing much wilder than fire roads or some hard pack sand. As previous posters have said gas mileage is not high (18-20), it is a bit noisy and the top is not insulated.....but I knew that going in. It is easy to 'hook up' for towing. Sure there are other cars that ride nicer, quieter, get better mileage and can be towed.....but "it's a jeep thing"!!

RE: 30 Amp 220 damage?

I was with a group camping. A fellow camper brought his commercial generator and let everyone plug into a junction box that provided 30amp. He suggested that my 50 amp rig would handle the 50 amp feed if I would get a twist adapter plug. I shouldn't have listened to him!! I lost two tv's and the microwave. Neither TV could be repaired and the microwave needed a new circuit board. I found out commercial generators put out 30 amps at 110v and 50 amps at 220. We don't go camping with that group anymore.

RE: Power port fuses. Where are they?

Same power port problem on my '05 Safari. I know how I blew the fuse (operator error), but couldn't find it to replace. All fuses I could find (below dash, in line & aux fuse panel) tested good. While cleaning up after a trip I found another fuse panel in the basement storage below the driver's seat. The faulty fuse was a 15a labeled "sun visor", but I don't have power sun visors!!! Power ports back on. I read on another post the installers don't always follow the schematic when wiring up a chasis/house.
Good luck...I know how it drove me crazy during a one week trip and then a few weeks after before I found it!!

RE: Onan generator

How long has it been since you last started/used your genny?
When I let my Onan 5.5 sit for a few months it also was is difficult to start. When it finally got going white smoke came out of the exhaust for several minutes and then the smoke went away. I'm told it was varnish that had built up in the carb. Any longer and the carb would have been too gummed up to start. So far I have managed to dodge a carb rebuild/replacement. Now I start it every 3 - 4 weeks and let it run for 30 mins with a/c units on.....good idea to "exercise them too"!!

You may also have a bad plug into the TV for your video feed. I would also try rk911's suggestion.

Had the same problem with the 5.5 Onan on my '05 Safari. It was one of the circuit breakers on the genny.

RE: San deigo trip

Silver Strand is on the beach and is nice....just be aware that they lock the entrance gate at 8pm, so if you are out and get back after they close you'll have to park outside and walk in. The closest parking area is approx. 3/4 mile away.
Santee Lakes is a favorite and is close to freeways and shopping.

RE: OK, Im an idiot...

Done that.....we were leaving a campground in good weather and not rushed (which made it worse!!). I thought I had done everything while hooking the jeep up,including taking the parking brake off. About 2 or 3 miles down the road I thought we seemed underpowered .....when it hit me that I left the parking brake on. I warped the front rotors. Fortunately the brake shop was able to resurface them. It was a $200 lesson.

RE: backup camera problem

Having the same problem with the Weldex System in my '05 Safari Simba. Just returned from a 1700 mile trip to Oregon. Back up camera worked a majority of the time, but still had the snow or grayed out picture intermittently. The suggestion from my repair shop is to check the cable connection to the camera at the rear of the coach. The cable is hung up on something inside the wall and I can't get to the connector. I'm going to make an access hole from the inside to get to the connector....I'm just trying to figure out how to do it and not leave a gaping hole in the rear wall.
Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: two problems

When you say "dash air went out" do you mean the cold air stopped or the fan stopped blowing? The cold air stopping (but still blowing) could mean low in refrigerant or a bad compressor (which happened to me a few months ago), if the fan stopped it could be a fuse.
I also had my steps get stuck in the extended position. I had a bad sprocket in the drive unit and had to replace the entire drive unit. I'm guessing something similar is happening to you if you hear a grinding noise and the motor "times out" and stops.
My a/c problem I took to a local shop for diagnosis and repair. I found the motor/drive unit for my steps online and replaced it myself.

RE: Onan 5500 Overheating Cut Off?

Dale.Traveling -
Thanks for the link to the owners manual. Mine is a bit older, but I'm sure most of the information applies. As my genny is running fine now it is quite possible I topped the 120 degress op temp (while on the road) and that is why it shut down. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

RE: Onan 5500 Overheating Cut Off?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. After an extensive search on the internet I also found a bunch of folks experiencing the same shut off at high temperature.
Dale.Traveling -
I am currently running 30w and checked all the openings...no obstructions. I didn't find the temp rating in my owners manual, but the 105 you quoted would seem to fit when I was having problems. The last was on the way over the Grapevine. I let it "rest" for about 10 - 15 mins and it started up and ran the rest of the way through LA and further. Haven't been able to duplicate the problem since I have been back. I think I'll keep monitoring.....I'm not going to start replacing things at Onan's recommendation if I can't duplicate the problem for them.
