RE: What do you use to stabilize when parked?

I just went through this. I used 4x4, cut in 1 foot pieces (Home Depot did this for me), each drywall screwed to a 1'x1' piece of 3/4 inch plywood. I made four of these for each of my stabilizing jacks, and I doubled up the 4x4 and made 4 of these for my tongue jack. I realized I needed more depending upon what I found when I setup. I've been to two places so far, and I was really very close to maxing out the extension on my tongue jack with only two of these. Works great, looks like I know what I'm doing, and was very easy, cheap, and felt good making it myself!!
Humm,,,I built something like this for my tongue jack. From what I have learned on this post something like this under each jack would help me out a lot. I get the wood for free from the farm and for me that would be cheaper then buying something. Thanks.

RE: Have I plugged up my black tank drain?

You may also be using the wrong type of toilet paper. Check out this link to help in the future.

RE: We have mice....

The problem with the "green blocks" is that any thing that eats the mouse after it eats the block gets poisoned too. I don't believe in poisons when there are so many other methods that are safer. But, That is my opinion.

RE: Freshwater Tank Refilling - What Do You Do?

This is what I do. Then I have to carry water in a 5 gallon jug to the funnel. Holding up 5 gallons is to hard for me these days so I only put 4 gallons (or so) in each jug. Then I can pour them more easily without spilling.

RE: Repair or replace roof?

If you spend 7400 to replace and accept 12400 from the dealer, your really only getting 5000 anyway. I'd patch it and sell it myself.
X2 but, that's just the way I am.

RE: Average Fuel Mileage

Fighting headwinds across the great plains of SD - down to 6.78 mpg. Worst ever. Can't complain though, we made it through a snow storm in Sioux City IA and rain on the plains.
Your from Georgia and you made it through a snow storm in Iowa??!!! Good for you!!! Most drivers from the south crash with the first snow flake. I commend you for being a good driver.

RE: Thank goodness for insurance

I hardly ever even put mine out. I did use it at a concert at the casino last year. It was a hot day, there was no shade, and it gave us all a place to set in the shade until the concert started. That's the only time in the last 5 years I was happy to have one, and about the 3rd time I even put it out. But, to each his own.

RE: Travel Trailer creaks and cracks when moving?

My suspension creaks and groans. If I put a drop of oil on the points where the center hanger thing moves then it quits for a month or so then starts back up again.

RE: Window leak

I had a leak on the kitchen counter and it turned out to be around the exhaust fan vent for the stove and then was running down the inside of the wall and coming out under the window.

RE: Where's the floodlight switch?

It's near your dump valves. Could there be a switch near them so you can turn it on when dumping after dark? What about underneath the door for your outside shower?

RE: How to get rich and get rid of old socks

I only buy gray socks. That way I just grab two and they always match. When they are wore out I cut them open and use them for shop rags.

RE: Any Hi Lo owners on here?

I think they used a cable pulley system to make it go up an down. Or, at least the early ones did. Make sure all of that system is in good shape.

RE: Where's the floodlight switch?

Could it be one of those automatic ones that turns itself on after dark when there is motion in the vicinity? Otherwise you will have to find someone that has a TT just exactly like yours. Is there a Coachman Captiva forum somewhere?

RE: Water heater won't work on electric

TT are often built with unusual sized stuff. You will often find the screws that hold the cabinets and stuff together require a square head bit that's a little weird too. I think it's called a #10 or something like that. You may want to check it out and add it to your travel collection.

RE: 1987 Nomad AC Blowing cold then warm then cold

Sounds like you may be due for recharge.
If the compressor runs without any refrigerant it will burn up. So they use a pressure switch to stop the compressor once the refrigerant gets below a certain level. The refrigerant is being moved from the low pressure side to the high pressure side. When you are low, there is enough refrigerant to start. However, once it starts getting cycled through out the entire system, it drops below the minimum pressure needed to keep the compressor running without destroying it........
That's just my take on your symptoms
Ya, probley. I don't know if you can get them recharged anymore. Maybe if you find the right guy and you live in the right place. In the small towns around me they would probley just recomemend a replacement.

RE: New travel trailer - what is the best length

I would think around 23 feet. That way you can get a walk around queen bed in the front, a rear bath, and a right side dinette. Those are the things I would look for if I were in the market for a new TT. But, I think a lot of it is preference of the owners and what they think is perfect.
