RE: Time to scratch the camping itch!

Sounds great! Hope the dewinterization goes well. Hopefully we'll be getting out soon.

RE: newbie needs advice

I am a 'she'. :p My parents are reverse snowbirds. They live permanently in Arizona (where snowbirds migrate to in winter to escape the snow) but visit relatives in Wisconsin in the summer (and miss out on the monsoon storms here in AZ) Planning on hooking up the sewer hose to the cleanout port (I guess its called) on the vent stack behind their mobile home. Sorry, she! As far as chemicals I've been using these. They sell them at WalMart in the RV section.

RE: newbie needs advice

You said that you will be living in the trailer in a very warm area of Arizona and that your parents will be going to Wisconsin in the summer to escape the heat - given those two statements, you may want to consider arranging to move into the house during the time your parents are gone because it may cost a fortune to air condition the trailer that is if the A/C's can even keep up with typical Arizona summer temperatures. He has relatives who are snow birds and leave - not his parents (if I read that right). So the travel trailer is on their property - how are you planning on dumping the tanks?

RE: newbie needs advice

But no slinky hose. :( Would Home Depot or Lowe's carry them? Try your local WalMart. They have an excellent RV section that sells slinky hoses, tank chemicals, etc. Oh, and LP is propane.

RE: P3 controller problel

Not 100% sure but I thought I heard the new dodges would not accept aftermarket brake controllers.... Then why bother having the connector under the dash?

RE: power tongue jack

Quick question a little off topic.... Is there still a way to manually crank your jack up and down in the event that the power mechanism stops working? Is there a manual crank handle... I just ordered a new Jayco TT with the power tongue jack option and was a bit curious. TIA..... Rob That is one of the negatives I have about my Ultra Fab. It comes with..... *dramatic pause* a long socket. Not the best design, but it works.

RE: tow mirrors

I've had a couple different sets and they've been annoying. Not very tight fitting and lots of vibration. I bought these and they've been excellent. They have a ratcheting system on the back to tighten them up and almost no vibration. Fit System 3891 Deluxe Universal Clip-on Trailer Towing Mirror

RE: power tongue jack

That is great to hear. Mine is on its way. It's a refurb, full warranty, $99.00 as well. I ordered it off eBay. I didn't really have $250-300 to spend on one, but its totally needed for my back now. Thanks I bought mine off eBay as well with full warranty. Three weeks after I installed it, it stopped working. This may worry you - but I contacted UltraFab via email and three days later I had another unit from them, no questions asked, and it's been working great.

RE: power tongue jack

I just ordered an Ultra Fab 4000 Hopefully it lasts a while. Reports on here make me nervous...we will see how it goes. I've had my Ultra Fab 3502 (refurb for $99) for almost a year now and it's been going strong.

RE: Traveling with Heater On

Since the fridge thing was brought up I have to ask. So what am I supposed to do? I'm travelling with it on so my mayonnaise doesn't go bad and make for a bad trip for everyone. I need gas and I'm getting ready to pull into a station. Then what? Do I pull into the pump, climb in and turn it off, then proceed pumping gas? It's not like the fumes at the gas station that reach my TT are limited to the ones I'm pumping into my TV. If I pulled through to a front pump, let's say, and my TT was next to another pump, what about the guy on the other side of that other pump who is filling up? He's WAAAAY closer to any ignition source I may have like my fridge. Just wondering. What about the glowing hot catalytic converter hangin under just about every gasser out there? That's not really an open flame.

RE: Holding tank clean-out system kit

Thanks for pointing this video out! I bought one of those wand sprayers and I've used it a total of ONE time. Once you have water droplets spray back out of the tank and pretty much hit you in the face - that's the end of that. My TT warranty will be up in a couple months so I may look into this. I'd assume this would void the warranty on the tank.

I didn't find it on CampingWorld's site either. I did find it on Amazon though: Camco 40123 RV Quickie Flush with Back Flow Preventer

RE: Traveling with Heater On

I can't say whether it's safe or not. I don't think I'd do it - but that's just me. That being said, my furnace warms up my TT pretty quickly. Yeah yeah, I'm in Florida and I've only had to use it once at Disney when it was in the 30's a couple weekends ago, but still. Even at those extreme temps wouldn't it warm up quickly enough if you backed into your space and turned on the furnace while you disconnected the TV and hooked up electric, pulled down stabilizers, etc? By the time you were all done I'd imagine it would be nice and toasty.

RE: How far can you tow prior to fill up?

Depending on the tow vehicle, obviously. Don't most have a 25-30 gallon tank?

RE: Rest Stops/Truck Stop Layovers

Florida rest areas do not allow overnight camping. Florida Department of Transportation Overnight camping is not permitted, but visitors may stay for up to three hours. It also says this: Each facility is protected by security personnel during evening and nighttime hours. This is only the case for the rest areas along the interstates. State roads don't necessarily apply. The rest areas down US19 all close at 9pm and they shut the entrance gates. I also don't think they have constant security. A police cruiser probably pulls through on occasion.

RE: Bedlift Kit?

My trailer came with the lift kit standard but the gas springs were way too strong. The bed would lift with one finger but you almost had to climb up and sit on the bed to close it. They put so much pressure on the lower attach brackets that the bed frame on one side broke. I did a repair job and replaced the springs with ones half as strong. I googled "automotive gas springs" and found more information and suppliers than I could read. One thing I found is that when you don't have to pay for the"RV" name things are much cheaper. I'll definitely check this out. Thanks so much. After ordering and installing I'll update this thread with the results.

RE: Blue Ox BXW1500 Rotating Bracket - Lube or Not?

I've used the Blue Ox Sway Pro for three years now. Best to clean these rotating brackets and chains with WD40, THEN wipe clean with dry cloth (this also removes any small rust spots) give the chains and brackets a good coating of good Silicone Spray and they will rotate just like new (remove the wd40 best you can, because wd40 is a dirt and dust magnet) Be sure to grease the grease certs on the torsion bar head every trip, and thin coat of lithium grease on the hitch ball. Ahhh I didn't remove the WD40 spray so maybe that's the problem. I'll try a silicone spray and hope that helps. I generally grease and retorque (to around 80lbs) the torsion bar heads every couple times out. I use the same grease on the ball. Any benefit to using lithium grease?

RE: Blue Ox BXW1500 Rotating Bracket - Lube or Not?

No ideas? Unfortunately there are no grease points to hook up a grease gun. I used some WD-40 on it thinking that would help but I think that actually made it worse. Since this is part of the WD and sway control I'm wondering if I should lube it or not. I suppose I could just squirt some grease around the edge and see how that works. When it was new I never had to use that tool to rotate it and I could do it by hand. Now I have to use the tool and it's still tough to rotate.

Bedlift Kit?

Has anyone used one of these? My TT has no type of support for lifting the bed. I'm a "fairly" young guy and a few months ago I put a serious hurting on my back during a week long trip. I tore a ton of muscles and I'm pretty sure it was caused by lifting the bed. Because there wasn't much leg room between the bed and the front wall I couldn't lift with my legs. I have the stock short queen that came with the TT and a longer memory foam on top. I'm trying to find something to help me lift it without killing my back again. Can anyone recommend this product? Is there something more "heavy duty" I can use to accomplish this? Thanks.

Blue Ox BXW1500 Rotating Bracket - Lube or Not?

My BXW1500 has these rotating brackets installed on the TT tongue. The bars have chains that attach to these and you rotate them to lock into place. I've had my TT almost a year now with this WD system and I've noticed that over time the brackets are getting harder and harder to rotate. Does anyone know of a good way to lubricate these brackets? Should I lube them? http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/b/x/bxw0550_bb_500.jpg
