RE: Quartzite gathering still going strong?

Another question: Can one purchase several two week passes in La Posa instead of buying the six month pass? We want to be there only about 4 weeks maximum, which would be a lot cheaper at $40 per two week pass versus $180 for six months. Thanks.

RE: US Dollars--take note:

No it's not. At current exchange rate, it is about $2.35 per gallon. When the price of gas skyrockets again in the U.S., the price will be much more stable in Mexico. By far the best way to handle the money thing is to bank with a bank that has reasonable charges for ATM use out of the country. ATMSs are everywhere here.

RE: Crossing & Route To Ciudad Victoria

We live in Mexico, Lake Chapala, and keep our RV in La Feria, between McAllen & Harlingen. We usually cross at McAllen. Last time, we crossed at Nuevo Progresso, hoping that the bypass of Reynosa from the 2 to the 97 south would be complete. It was not, but should be this time. However, if not, we will return to using the Reynosa entry as the facilities there are quite good and if you know the bypass route, you miss much of the town. To do this, after you come out of the document place, go LEFT and stay on that road, ignore the green and whites. It is a two lane that winds a bit. You come to a junction where the left side goes up a small hill, you'll notice most of the traffic taking this road. Then just stay on it until you cross the 2, there is only on traffic light, I believe. Follow signs to C. Victoria, it will put you right on the road headed south, Mex97.

RE: Quartzite gathering still going strong?

Another question: Can you get RV service there, oil and filter change and grease all the zirts, at reasonable cost? We used to have a guy in Albuquerque who would come to the rig and do it all right on the spot very reasonably.

Quartzite gathering still going strong?

I've heard some rumblings that the Quartzite RV show is fading fast and there are far fewer vendors of RV stuff than there used to be at this gathering. Is that true? We are planning to come up from Mexico just to go to this. It is a long drive from south Texas, don't want to do it if it is a waste of time now. Thanks.

RE: Attwood Water Heater thermostat question

I have exactly the same water heater. Gas side works fine, electric side stopped working and I assumed the heating element was bad because the unit is 10 years old. Replaced that, still no working on electric. Heating element was pretty corroded so it was a good idea to replace it, but that didn't fix the problem. I don't see any signs of a rocker or reset switch back there and the very skimpy schematic in the book shows a "manual reset, high temperature limit switch." Any idea where that might be located? Looking at this unit, the AC side appears to be completely independent of the 12VDC/gas side. Is this correct? If so, I assume that this just leaves the thermocouple that is in the same awful place (backside of the heater) as the heating element or this manual switch I can't find. Anyone who has experience with this specific model, some coaching as to how to troubleshoot from here out appreciated!

RE: Atwood electric heater element replacement

I'm having the same problem, heater works fine on gas (electronic ignition) but electric heating stopped working. It didn't trip the breaker but I assumed the heating element was bad, since the unit is 10 years old, and replaced that. This is the Atwood 10 gallon with electronic ignition, gas, OR 120 volt electric heating. It looks to me like the 12V and 120V setups on this heater are totally independent, the former all on the front and the latter on the back where it is the job from hell to work on it. Anyway, I replaced the heating element thinking that after all that time, it is probably shot. It was pretty corroded and probably a good idea to replace it, however that didn't fix the problem. The schematic I have is insufficient to show me what else might be the problem though it appears there may be a thermostat back there under the same cover. Couldn't find a reset switch. Checked the atwood site, they provide no guidance for the electric circuit of this heater. Suggestions most welcome!
