RE: Highways Magazine
Mike,
The letter does not answer the question which is so well put by Godsey97... A little clarification would be helpful.
QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't subscribe you get 4 issues a year FREE.
If you subscribe (I do) you get your subscription "adjusted".
Can someone in the know (Marcus team) explain that to me. Is my yearly subscription to Motorhome going to get exteded 4 months EACH year or just in 2014.
IS a subscriber getting 16 months of the magazine for 12 months price, or is this a 2014 "adjustment" only and then tough cookies?
This sounds a whole lot like fuel prices......Unleaded is at $2.00/gal. Companies want it at $2.50/gal so they run the price up to $3.00/gal., people scream and kick, price goes down to $2.50/gal and people are dancing in the street thinking they are getting a steal. Process repeates until we are at nearly $4.00/gal. I am getting the same gut feeling with GS club and their "benefits"...whats next on the chopping block.
Thanks for your post. In February, 2014 current subscribers who are active Good Sam members will have their subscriptions extended 4 months. This is a onetime event. In addition, current subscribers (who are Good Sam members) will be offered discounted renewal rates in the future. I hope this clears up the confusion.
Thanks,
Mike Siemens

Thats the claification I was after. Thanks. A one time extension and then "discount" renewals. That seems reasonable. The original message was either unclear about "post 2014" on the subscribers end, or I was not getting it.
I guess it does not matter as we are lifetime members and don't get a refund if we cancel so we have to just go with the flow as we can't "vote with our wallets" any longer.
This has taught me a lesson about making sure I make sure programs are thoroughly vetted before I pay and sign up for a lifetime anymore.
People don't like change, I get that. Folks in my profession are even more averse to change, so that is probably most of it I guess, but it seems like several of the "benefits" of membership are dwindling.
Thanks for all the follow-up and we all know you can't make everyone happy. We should be happy with the fact that you are constantly trying I guess.
And for the record, at least in my case, it is not "just" the magazine change that is troubling, it is the feeling that "what is next". It's not the heavy pack that broke the camels back, it was that "last straw".

RE: Highways Magazine
All I get is the error message too.
I am pretty sure Highways comes more than 4 times a year..........
I know that they have the right to make changes to the benefit pretty much any time, but buying into this on a lifetime membership based upon free shipping (no restriction) and now the deal with Highways I am starting to feel really disappointed in the whole thing and wonder what benefit is the next one to be cut off or cut back.
RE: Finding Past Owner
A few years back we sold a big TT at a CG on a lake in our state. We had it FSBO for a season. We were not desperate to sell, just open to it should a buyer come along.
After a holiday weekend when the CG was packed an older couple strolled the CG and saw our unit and wanted to buy it. They did, and did not know anything about campers/trailers/etc.
After they bought it I spent an afternoon with them going over everything I could think of and left.
2 weeks later, out of the blue, they call and immediately stated "Hey, there is a problem with YOUR trailer so sold us." To say the least I was not happy. I quickly straightened them out and informed them that I no longer own a trailer, they do.
Long story short, they appologized and admitted it was worded improperly. They had lost power (on the weekend, no dealers open)and wanted to know if I had any ideas. Troubleshot it over the phone and got them fixed up.
It worked out fine in the end, and they never called back, but it immediately put me on the defense and uncomfortable.
RE: V10 oil consumption
In the division where I work we had 3 E-350 econoline vans w/V-10's. They came off the line in sequential order, government bid kinda thing.
Anyway one of the three would burn 1 qt every 1000 miles and the other two would not burn a drop. Ford advised WNL. Conversely one of the ones that didn't have an oil leak problem wnet through brake pads like nobody's business. Dealers and engineers brought in to look at it had no clue as to why one of three identically outfitted trucks used brakes pade 3 times faster than the others. WE even eliminated the assigned driver equation by switching the van with another driver, same problem. It is just character I guess.
RE: Marathon Negotiations
I have found that spending a little time on the internet getting real world "purchase" prices is step 1. Step 2 is to make the initial contact with the dealership via the Internet sales person. Bought the wifes Trailblazer that way. Got the quote and then went in to the dealership. The deal was a test drive of that specific vehicle and if she liked it we would purchase. Well she didn't like it as it had leather and she thought she would prefer cloth. The internet sales person told us that since our initial contact was with internet sales, we were an "internet customer" and internet pricing would apply to any car on the lot. Internet pricing was "GM Supplier Pricing" less any rebates, etc. She fould the one she wanted, looked at the invoice and saw the supplier price and that is what we paid. Verified the price through another dealer. I have found that allowing dealers to make a small, key word small, profit keeps everyone happy. I get a decent price and I feel like I get treated better because they know I didn't try to beat them up. I would bet that they have a list of the "chislers" who are probably branded for eternity in that companies files as someone who is near impossible to deal with or please.
RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???
Winterized it for the year.
Sold our house quicker than we thought we would, had to wait to close on the one we bought so we were living in the MH for 6 weeks at a military campground. It kept getting colder and colder, we were leaving the water trickle to keep the pipes from freezing. It was mixed emotions. Sad to winterize it for the year, but glad we got settled and got it done before any damage.
RE: Camping World Website
I'm not sure why all of you are so upset
Did you read all of it.
Shipping is free if the order is more than 99 dollars but I also added and instant rebate program called buy more save more for only club members. I would encourage everyone to check it out.
Part of the issue was we had customers ordering one item a day that was three dollars and it cost be eight to ship
If you would like to discuss further you can reach me at my personal email mlemonis@campingworld .com
I am sure there was some abuse by the customers. But it is also the inefficent method of shipping/packing used by Good Sam that contributed as well.
I ordered far more (several hundred dollars worth) after the free shipping started, and nothing since the change.
As an example of the fault not all laying at the customers feet... I order three things on the same order... A side table, 2 cup inserts for the dinette and a 90 degree adapter for the freshwater inlet. They came in three separate packages, and each package was bigger than the last it seemed. The side table came in its own package display labels on the outside and all, only had a shipping label and packing list stuck on the outside. Several days later I get another box that was approximately 2'x3'x8" containing only the two plastic cupholders and what seemed like yards of butcher paper. 10 days later a get the third and final package, a box that was approximatly 8" square. Inside it was a 90 degree brass fresh water adaptor and this time more butcher paper and the pillow packing.
Apparently the blame is to be shared!
RE: Free shipping
Well that stinks. Lifetime member and was thrilled with the free shipping and ordered more in the last year than I had in the 5 years prior combined. Back to paying the overpriced shipping = buying items elsewhere.
There goes one of our lifetime membership benefits, what's next?
RE: Big Question, is it worth it?
Class C, class A, TT, 5er...there are just way too many complex "systems" on board that twist, shake, rattle, and roll down the highway for hours on end. If you get a single trip without ANYTHING going wrong, you're probably either lucky, or you just haven't actually noticed what broke yet!
And the congregation said "AMEN"! :D
RE: Temporarily Grounded
Sorry to hear about your situation. Without knowing the limitations of your DH, I can only speculate and offer personal viewpoints. The DW's grandmother had hip replacement surgery and one week before she was to get a green light to return to her normal activity, she fell and broke her arm to the point it needed a cage and pins, etc. We wound up keeping her at our house because of medicare/insurance issues. It was only 8 weeks we had her before she could go home but it consumed our every minute that we were not working. I typically help my own mother with things around her house and they all fell behind because of the time and energy required to deal with the DW's grandmother. If I would have had the added worry about how someone was taking care of my MH, I would have probably needed to check myself in somewhere.
The DW and I are also Police Officers and spend a lot of our time on Landlord/Tenant issues. To see how tenants treat property (with some exception) has made us vow to never be rentors.
RE: Free satelite radio for two weeks!
Been getting free Sirius for 2 years now. Cancelled this MH rec. and still get programs.
Only active account is on our toad.
Now you went and done it....they are scrambling the black helicopters to find you and your free radio....Should have kept that on th Q.T.:)
I have had Sirius for a number of years. Have the removable one with a docking station set up in each vehicle. Just move the "head unit" from car-to-car-to-Motor Home. I only listen to 5 or 6 channels myself, but when we are on the road and the DW can find her favorite genre of music and never have to change the channel and complain about static, it is worth it.
RE: Is being a Good Sam Member worth it?
To me the benefit of membership Good Sam Club is being part of a group who like me love RV’ing, as a group we the Good Sam Club, we have the ability to lobby, fight for rights and self regulate our hobby… RV’ing. The side benefits are Camping World membership, 10% off camping at Good Sam Parks, Highways Magazine, and many more. To me the membership is well worth the membership fee...
RVman / John
Well said. It's much more than a 10% discount and magazine.
Exactly what I was going to say, but probably not as eloquently. We were annual members for a couple of years, after seeing what all GS does, we went ahead an did the lifetime deal, we are both early 40's. We also use the road service as it is MUCH cheaper than AAA and will cover ALL household members ANDany vehicle they drive, unlike AAA. I as a member of AAA for 17 years and let it go last yea in favor of GS Roadside Assistance.
One problem with this world is many people look at things from a "ME" standpoint. What is in itfor ME. I do usually save the equivalent of $40-$50 bucks a year on purchases from CampingWorld and Campground
discounts. But I look at the magazine, THIS website and their advocacy on our behalf as benefits as well.
RE: sewer hose storage
Had a similar, not exact model. No it is not stopped up or blocked, thats all there is. You will need to look at the above pictures and figure out someway to rig up a better solution.
RE: Brake Control and Harness ? (Nissan)
If this is the most money you lose as you enjoy this "hobby" or "lifstyle" we all love, consider yourself lucky. As said before, Prodigy is the way to go.
You will soon also learn that you need to treat anything you hear about RV'n on any website, dealership, campfire chat like they teach (or used to) in journalism school. Always verify by at least two other sources. I asked a dealership service manager for a quote on installing electic brakes on my 2011 Coachmen MH. Was given some song and dance about running wire etc. and quoted some ignorant amount. Called Ford MH customer service and was tranferred to an engineer who walked me thru the process of removing the dash trim and plugging into the already wired pigtail.
Happy camping, jut remember we are all here to learn from each other and our advice is sometimes spot on, other times it is worth what you paid for it.
RE: Opening Question................
Let me take a crack at that dead horse and also suggest that you rent one for a weekend.
Take it from us.....3 rigs in 3 years and we finally have the right one, for now. And we were not novices when we began this three years ago, we had a TT years go, got out of it and like the mafia, we were pulled back in...LOL
RE: Frequent Camper, First Disney Trip - Advise Suggested!
You need to be booking NOW. We have found the meal plan is best if you are staying in an on property hotel. We spent 9 days there this summer. Breakfast in the MH, light lunch/snack in the park and dinner back at the MH. Ifyou have kids, you might find that coming back to the MH, using Disney transportation, might be a great plan. Kind of a short breather and little bit of quiet time before you go back into the horde of people. Some make sure you do's: Mickey's Backyard Bar-B-Q. If they say they are booked already, don't fret. See the desk help after you check in, they should be able to accomodate you. We were told that they were booked solid for the bar-b-q. DW went to the front desk and they were able to accommodate us. They told us the central booking only has so many slots to fill, the rest are for the cast members on site to use, I would imagine the Hoop-De-Doo is the same. Another MUST SEE is the Electric Light Parade that you can see from the dock. Nightly movies with campfires. Buy your Smore fixin's before you get there to save big bucks. Basically, they will hand you a schedule when you check in, look at it carefully and take full advantage. The fort is almost like a park itself and has lots to do.
If by chance you are military, they are offering great deals on multi-day tickets.
RE: Favorite CW product complaint
I bought a Brinkman "3 burner Tailgate Grill" for $185.00 at my La Mirada Camping World. The sales guy Gus said everything that I needed was in the box..and he also said "it's so easy to assemble that even my 7 year old kid can do it!"
When we got it home, it was abundently aparent that is was going to be a very difficult assembly, lots of parts! I called the Camping World and asked for Gus...and explained that we were unable to get it assembled.
I then asked him if he happened to have the his child handy to assemble our grill or at least ask the kid for advise...and Gus hung up! Now he won't return my calls....
Not very good customer service in my opinion!
;)
I agree. We will address this with our VP of Retail and make sure your call gets answered right away. There's no reason that you should have been hung up on nor should your calls be ignored.
-Neal
Rut-Roh,
I took all of these as tongue-n-cheek knee slappers to give us a chuckle. Hopefully Neal was kidding or someone might get a butt chewin for no reason.
RE: Poor Performance from Club Chair...
Call Campingworld. Just the number at the store you purchased them from. See what they say. Worst they say is, no. They might swap them out or give your money back. If they do make right by you I would hope you would come back on here and tell the world so since you made sure you aired your complaint.
