Just another reason to have a key hidden somewhere.

PB Blaster is a good penetrant. Soak it for about a week.

RE: pusher 30 to 34 ft

Wheelbase too short, too much weight hanging out the rear. There's a reason why 35-36' is about the shortest coach you'll find built in much volume.

RE: added overdrive transmissions

So far no one has mentioned that the added torque load on the original transmission won't help its life one little bit either.
There's no magic formula for improving mileage on an existing MH except to keep the weight and speed down. You can use low rolling resistance tires (makes a real difference), or cut aero drag. Fairing in the roof airs and removing the outside mirrors (replace with cameras) are the biggest improvements you can make in drag. So far no states I know of have legalized using cameras instead of mirrors, but expect to see that happen soon.

RE: Air ride question

If you want a softer ride you can add airsprings and the attach a small tank to each spring to lower the spring rate. The larger the tank you add the lower the spring rate for the air spring. So you do have the option of varying the spring rate with air. And you can add a self leveling function as well using a height sensor with an onboard compressor.

RE: Moble 1 or Ford Blend

Note that while Chevy (and others) don't take synthetic into account for figuring difference between changes, Corvettes come with Mobil 1 from the factory. As do Porsches, Vipers and a number of other rather rapid cars. I've been using Mobil 1 or Rotella Synthetic for the last 20 years. Oil in the cars gets changed every year whether it needs it or not. They don't often go over 15,000 miles on a change. My vote obviously is for running Mobil 1 and changing it once a year.

RE: Wholesale Values?? Sellers keep quoting them

Dealers won't pay wholesale now because they either don't have the cash or they have too much inventory already.
And the prices PPL is asking are often waaaaay over NADA on the older coaches. But that's not what the sold ones are bringing. So they're playing dealer as usual - ask way too much and see how much they can squeeze out of the buyer.

RE: Fuel Ecomony on takeoffs

The limit in lower gears is to avoid exceeding the torque capacity of the transmission in those gears. The transmission computer tells the engine computer which gear it's in and the engine computer limits torque as programmed. Basically no effect on fuel consumption. Just put the pedal down and wait for it to get up to speed.

RE: Wholesale Values?? Sellers keep quoting them

If you actually look at NADA I doubt you'd find a dealer offering more than 70% of low retail on an trade or purchase. I'm finding sellers wanting 50-100% above high retail for their 15 year old DPs. I'm not paying that.

RE: Allison 1000 problems!

Actually 200 degrees is fine forever. But much higher gets to be trouble. Fluid deteriorates faster and seals cook.

RE: leaf springs

Air bags do not mask the problem. They improve on the basic suspension because you can then adjust for load. But each to his own.

I too prefer front wheel drive for daily drivers, but a Jeep Cherokee 4WD is very hard to beat for a toad.

Ford has problems, but there's no way that there are 3,600,000 F53s out there.

RE: Cummins 275 Allison 6 Performance

The real difference is transmission. The 4 speed will limit you to about 40-45mph in third, whereas the 6 speed will let you run 60+ in fifth up hills. Of course the extra power and torque is a big help too.

My ex-husband called and said, "Sell the car and send me the money". Yep, the Corvette is $500.
The Damon deal can't be true though.
