RE: Equilizer hitch needed on 3500?

We have an F350 with the crew cab and 8 ft. bed (so a very long wheelbase)
I've towed our 35' and 9,000 lb (when fully loaded) Jayco Eagle with our Equalizer Brand WD hitch on and without it. While it tows OK without the Equalizer hooked up it tows excellent with it on...so I tow with it on.

RE: Pets are NOT to be left unattended... what??

The way I look at it, is that it's nobody's business what's going on inside my rig - unless it somehow affects (noise) the neighborhood.
I would definitely agree with this...however the problem is some people either don't know or don't care that their dogs bark incessantly in their trailer while they're gone.
IMHO if you take your dog on your trip with you then you better be prepared to take it with you wherever you go....I didn't pay campground fees so I could listen to your dog bark all day.
(the you in this case not being the poster I quoted)

RE: 8,500 lbs plus dry weight

Our Jayco Eagle has a GVWR of around 9500 lbs...we are typically 8700 lbs. when loaded.
We're towing with a 1 ton diesel....which is fun.:B

RE: Unhitching an Equalizer 4-Point

Yep, that's all you have to do. Just jack it up until all the pressure is off the bars and swing them off.
I've been running an Equalizer brand hitch since 2007...and that's all I've ever done.

RE: Bumper Pull vs. Fifth Wheel

Truly a "to each his own" question...all we can do is offer our 2 cents.
We like pulling a TT with our truck instead of a 5er because it frees up the bed of our truck to haul "stuff" with us. We have a matching truck cap with the 8 ft. bed so can haul a lot of stuff and not worry about it getting wet..etc.
Just very handy...but again, that's just our POV..

RE: re-entering camping - what would you buy?

Don't go by the tow rating. A 1/2 ton truck with full compliment of people is not going to tow anywhere near 9500 lbs. because your suspension won't hold it safely.
Your engine might be able to pull it..but your suspension won't hold it..so to speak.

Awesome!! Enjoy your time and IMHO packing and getting ready for the trip...and then the drive itself, are just part of the enjoyment of vacation.

RE: WDH/equalizer and hitch receiver advice for newbie

As someone who tows with an Equalizer brand hitch, a Prodigy brake controller, and a Curt Hitch....well IMHO all 3 are excellent products.

RE: Boy, do I feel dumb...

It's pretty pathetic that both the dealership and the Jayco help line both were clueless on the operation of that fridge....this coming from a proud Jayco Eagle owner..

RE: TT Mystique

For us we like the travel trailer in part because it allows us to haul things in the bed of our pickup truck. We have an 8 ft. bed with a matching truck cap, so we can put a lot of stuff back there and with the cap it stays dry.

RE: We did it!!!

Still remember when we went from our Pup to our first travel trailer...man what a difference the prep/packing is (much more enjoyable IMHO) and also the camping.
Congrats!!

RE: New record !

Just wanted to say I've always enjoyed Ric's posts, and found them very informative. Back in 2010, after we sold our 7.3L PSD Excursion we went truck shopping. I've always liked Fords the best, and really wanted to remain in one.
Ric took the time to discuss the 6.0L PSD with me in detail, the remedies and things you could do to make the engine bulletproof so to speak. He did this in messages on here and even gave me his phone number so we could talk that way. He even ran several OASIS reports for me on trucks that I had found that fit our specifications and price range.
In the end, I just could not pull the trigger on that engine....and not wanting to buy new, and wanting to stay in a Ford...we decided to go a bit older and stick with the tried and trusted 7.3L PSD, and we bought our current 2000 F350 which was in very nice shape.
Ric was more than helpful, took time out of his own schedule to help a guy he'd never met before but knew simply from posts on a message board.
So...you guys that feel it necessary to keep ripping on a guy who got totally screwed over by a company and wants to make sure others don't suffer the same fate....well keep it up, it speaks more about you than it does him.

RE: sway

Err on the side of caution IMHO. There are few things that can totally ruin a trip like a bad towing experience. In all our years of RVing we've only had one trip where things were squirrelly and it was miserable.

Can't speak to Crossroads...but we're in our 4th year of owning our 2008 Jayco Eagle and love it. Great TT!!

RE: Older tow vehicles

Not sure where a 2000 figures into the "older" equation...but if it's not there already our 2000 Ford F350 will someday, because it's not going anywhere. It's paid off, it's in great shape, it has the 7.3L PSD which will run forever, and only has 120,000 miles on it.

RE: Blocked toilet

Sometimes stuff gets stuck down there. Reach your arm down the hole as far as you can. When down to the max feel around for anything chunky. Grab it and squeeze it between your fingers until it gets smaller then dump some water in it (After you pull your arm out of coarse}. Do this once a month for regular maintenance. Wash your hands before cooking. I do have a self help video available. Hope this helps

RE: Just venting

Anyone else keep a camper around for such a small number of trips?
We generally go camping 3-4 times a year. A few short trips (3-4 days) with one long trip (2 weeks). It's just the nature of the beast with our lives. Although I am a school teacher with summers off, my wife is an RN and does not have that much vacation time available.
Too important to my family to get that caught up in cost vs. usage issues.

RE: Is this the right place to ask about TT hitches?

burbman- that video you posted is one of my biggest fears and part of the reason we upgraded from an SUV to diesel pick up. judging by the sway you have to wonder 2 things.
Well...notice the TV in that accident was a Ford Excursion...that's not a typical SUV. It's basically an F250 with an enclosed bed and a tad softer of a suspension. IMHO it definitely is more about what they were doing towing OR what type of WD/sway control they were running.

RE: rubber roof cleaning

Spic and Span is what the roof membrane manufacturer specifically noted as the best substance to use when cleaning the rubber roof. I use that diluted in water with a soft scrub brush.
Works great...
