RE: Better route from West Coast to East Coast

I have done I-80, I-90, I-10, U.S. 2 and I-84 (for a major portion). All are do able and all have their pluses and minuses. I am looking forward to maybe doing I-40 in the fall. I use these routes for the sake of time and convenience. Not for scenery. Like the expression says "the view never changes from the interstate".

RE: What do you think about having to have a Prescription

well, if it's for a brownie filled with hash, it's not just your ordinary brownie.
Being FROM Washington state I know you didn't mean corned beef!

RE: RV Insurance

You may want to call Farm and City Insurance in Forest City, Iowa even if you decided not to change your insurances. They will explain the difference in coverages and let you choose. They are non pressure, no obligation agency and VERY knowledgeable.

RE: Help with gun selection

Just thinking outside the box here but how about looking into a shark stick (I think that is what they are called). The thing that scuba divers carry. The pole with a shotgun shell in the end. I realize the limitations of range and single shot etc. but something to stop a shark should hold a pig/alligator/etc. at bay.

RE: Billings MT to Coeur d'Alene ID

Daunting is a relative term. If you stick to 90 shouldn't be a problem. Rely on your transmission going up and use the brakes sparingly if you don't have an engine brake. Remember never go down faster then you went up. Nothing worse then Steven's Pass.

RE: Splendide 2100XC not drying

I was just about to scrap mine for the same problem when I accidentally downloaded their trouble shooting manual. I read that the number one problem with inadequate drying in clogged vent. I was lucky enough to access that back of my unit. I discovered that rather then trimming the vent hose to size it was installed with a BIG "u" bend in it. Sure enough there was a lint ball the size of a cantaloup in it. I cleaned it out and trimmed the hose until it went directly to the outside vent. Then I went all the way back in the other direction to the drum. I had the DW shine a flash light in the drum and turn it by hand until I could see light from all the vent hose. Got a couple of mouse nest size pile from the rear of the drum.
Now the DW says it works better then it did when it was new. Sometime ask about what I did for the shaking and vibration.

RE: How hot is it really in the summer. Arizona/New Mexico

Shade is a premium and a must. Be prepared to run you a.c. 24/7. Also learn how to cool your pets rapidly if needed.

RE: Who Installed your baseplate

Went to the local rv repair center in town. That is where I purchased the base plate and aux. braking and had the wiring done. Due to the brush guard and winch on the jeep they contracted the base plate out to a local weld shop. He did such a good job I have been back several time since with various welding and machine projects.

RE: Sout Dakota wind conditions during summer

I cannot count the number of times I have driven across South Dakota. In all seasons with the exception of winter. I still can't figure out how I ALWAYS have a head wind no matter what direction I am taking. I do have to be honest and say that this past June I did have a tail wind. We were going to stop for an overnight but I didn't want pass up the tail wind so we drove from Sioux Falls to Billings, Montana. Made great time and great mileage too!
Point being you can always expect wind somewhere in South Dakota and Montana that time of the year.

RE: Sunbird

I used to tell people my favorite summer location. Now I am paying the price for it's popularity. Let my suffice to say it is somewhere north of Astoria, Oregon and south of Olympic National park. About a 100 yard walk through the dunes to the edge of the Pacific ocean.

RE: rolling stones - if we dont, we're gonna blow a 50 amp fuse

In order to maintain the RV.net standards, I'll offer the following:
With 30 Amp service you will only have every other load working if your rig is facing north or all the loads at 60.0 volts if facing south. The generator works pretty much the same way, but the directions are tied to facing either east or west. Hope this helps maintain our site standards.
Only kidding !!!!!
Lou
Makes sense to me. The magnetic poles must have something to do with it. That is why I always planted my corn in rows north to south and my tomatoes east to west.

RE: Where What When

Our house sold in June so we were traveling already. We kind of hovered around the northwest until late that fall. We did a lot of trips getting the motor home ready for full timing. New tires, meant a trip to Eugene. Then back to Washington for a club outing. Then back for house closing. In other words it took every bit of four months to tie up all the loose ends before we totally considered ourselves "free" and headed south.

RE: Best Northern Summer Campgrounds

For years I took great pride in boosting about our summer location. I learned what being discovered can do. Now I will say only it is on the Washington state coast. North of Astoria, Or. and south of the Olympic National Park. Oh and it is about one hundred yard walk through the dunes, across the beach, to the water's edge.

RE: Quartzsite AZ snowbirds - returning??

After doing it several years in a row, after 2011 DW said: "Let's take a break from this for a couple of years". Did Black Rock in Brenda twice in 2012 but had no desire to do Q. Probably won't next year either. Maybe it is another Florida year.
