RE: Canada: parallel agency to the FDA?

........
But do they have a parallel agency to the FDA? Or are druggists & manufactures allowed to run willy – nilly supplying the provinces and the states with whatever concoction they can brew?

The short answer to your question is YES, we do have a parallel agency to the FDA in the U.S., it is Health Canada. Every item sold in Canada as food or a drug is submitted to the same rigorous reviews and testing as in the U.S. Lot's of times, drugs approved in the U.S. are, in fact, rejected by Canada as unsafe, so the testing is independent. The agencies cooperate more though than they oppose each other.
The difference in pricing though is due to what an earlier poster has already said - the price is regulated by the Government so consumers aren't being ripped off. Luckily for us, Corporations are not able to make the rules as easily as they sometimes seem able to do in the U.S. We are, as you say "a civilized lot" - except when it comes to greedy multinational corporations!

RE: Satellite Dish Holder Mod

That looks like a nice setup. I went at it a different way by attaching my tripod to a removable plywood base that I weigh down with a cement block. It has successfully withstood the highest desert winds!

RE: SEEMS U.S. DOES NOT WANT SNOWBIRD'S

Canada is known as a gateway to the U.S. for illegals from all over the world. If they tightened up their immigration laws, we wouldn't have to make ours so strict. Do what is required to visit this country and I'm sure you'll have no problems. If not, you apparently will.
Interesting comment given that every one of the 9/11 terrorists entered the U.S. through American ports of entry - not Canada. Also, as for us tightening up our immigration laws, that's actually quite funny given all the outrage constantly on display here, not only in this thread, but many others regarding illegal immigration from Mexico. If the U.S. laws are so strict, then why all the problems with illegal immigration? As for me, I've never had a problem crossing the U.S. border and don't expect to have one next month either. We have passports, proof of residence, plus a great desire to return home after our snowbird vacation.

RE: SEEMS U.S. DOES NOT WANT SNOWBIRD'S

This is the third incident of this type I have heard recently. Apparently, there is some kind of a crackdown going on. I guess, when we head down south next month, I'll be sure to pack along our hydro bill, phone bill and maybe even our tax notice just to convince the border agents that we are, in fact, returning home after our 4 months in the southwest.

RE: Personal RV Travel blogs

We use Blogger. I use Live Writer for drafting and posting each entry as it is a much better editor than Blogger's version - especially for pictures. We used to do our entries using Trip Journal but found we could do just as much with Blogger - for free!

RE: Windows 7

Haven't had any problems running Firefox on Windows 7. Firefox says their browser will, and does, work with Windows 7.

RE: Looking for a good Router.

I guess I'll throw my vote in for the Cradlepoint MBR1000 as well - for all the reasons stated previously. It's a real plus to know that the MBR1000 is already 4G capable as all I'll need when it's readily available is a new USB modem.

RE: Norton Anti Virus Software has gone mad!!!

Like another poster already noted, be sure to download the Norton Removal Tool and run to get rid of all remnants of any Norton Antivirus program. I switched, just recently, to Microsoft's new, free antivirus program - Microsoft Security Essentials and am very pleased with it.

RE: Deleted MS Security Essentials

I've been running MSE since it was released and have never had a problem with it. It's smaller than AVG which I used before and doesn't have the annoying "buy the real version" ads that pop up. As for shutting down the computer automatically after a scan, that's not an issue for me. MSE is doing what it's supposed to do as far as I'm concerned.

RE: Good Sam avatar

Well, RVNet has admitted their mistake. They have acknowledged that their supposed 'email comparison' program doesn't in fact work. And now, they say that by sometime next week, their programmers(the gang who can't shoot straight) will supposedly have a fix in place to allow us to choose in our profile whether or not we want to display the GS logo.
Now, why didn't they just do that in the first place?

RE: Good Sam Badge

How about rather than complain just add or remove the badge as you prefer.
Well now that's an interesting thought. :S
but then you wouldn't have anything to occupy your time today :W :B

It would be interesting if it worked as stated - but, it doesn't!! :S

RE: Good Sam avatar

Just checking to see if the 'demon' is still there! It is, even though it shouldn't be as my email addresses are different. Just another example of Affinity's inability to get things right the first time - the gang that couldn't shoot straight!

RE: Good Sam avatar

I shouldn't be surprised to find out that again RVnet hasn't tested what they claim works!! Changing one's email address doesn't change anything - the stupid Good Sam advert is still there. Get rid of it!!

Changed my email address to a nonexistent one and the badge is still showing up! Guess I'll just have to not renew my Good Sam account to get rid of it.

RE: Jay Leno?

Looks to me like Jay is trying to copy a few bits from John Stewart and the Daily Show. The Daily Show's comedians are much funnier than what I've seen so far on Jay Leno and Stewart's man on the street interviews are a lot better too! It may get better for Leno, but the car wash was lame and so was his visiting homes last night. I had expected a lot more for prime time.

RE: Chinese tires no more?

Hmmm??? I really don't care whether the tariff on Chinese made tires is 1% or 5,000% - I just don't buy them. Is someone being forced to buy these Chinese made tires??

RE: Handguns into Canada

....It is illegal to boondock or even spend the night in rest areas in Canada because of safety. It seems a shame to me to have to live that way but it is their country and their choice.
What a crock of a statement this is!! There are many, many states in the U.S where it is illegal to boondock in rest areas too - in fact, how many states actually allow 'boondocking' in rest areas?? The actual shame is in having to carry a handgun everywhere just to think you are safe - that's a very, very strange way to live - in constant fear of the bogeyman!
