RE: Prius towing a travel trailer? Yes.

I remember auto accidents with those cars when they "were" new or fairly new. The cabins crumpled as bad as the one in the video. Even up to the '90s pickup trucks were horrible in crash tests. A collision with a Fiesta would favor the pickup truck it would surprise you how bad even a small car could crumple the cab of a full size pickup.
Some new Chinese Pickups tested in Australia have been as bad as that. The Chinese had to reengineer them to make them acceptable. That would get a rating of 2 out of 5 for the Ford and Rams crash. 4 out of 5 is acceptable, 5 out of 5 for a Pickup is what manufacturers aim for and eventually get.

RE: Greetings fellow RV'ers.

Neither can I. Rugby is what football used to be in terms of the game and the players. The NFL lost that to commercialization and extravagant salaries.
The only consistent problem I have heard of as regards retired Australian Rules and Club Rugby Players with American football, is not surprisingly TECHNIQUE.What players who have been doing their whole football life ,do automatically. Newcomers have to "think" about it.
My only two major gripes with American football is its incredibly slow pace(shared with its 1880's Rugby ancestor) and the extreme specialization of the game.
This would be IMPOSSIBLE See Below to do in Rugby/Australian Rules and Soccer. The Generalized nature of those games and vastly higher aerobic/anaerobic fitness allows them to be much more adaptable. Hayden Smith was an Australian playing English Club Rugby i.e Minor League Baseball or AAA nearing the end of his athletic career.
When the Jets signed Australian rugby player Hayden Smith six months ago, he looked like he had the raw athletic talent to play in the NFL, but still had a lot of work to do before he’d be ready to play in an NFL game. Apparently through six months of minicamps, training camp and time on the practice squad, Smith has done that work.

RE: Greetings fellow RV'ers.

Yeah because the NFL requires the players be able to think
Well there are some very bright Captains of Industry , Doctors/ Surgeons, Engineers , Academics and Politicians who have played Rugby and Australian Rules. I cannot think of any NFL players, maybe you can fill me in?

RE: Greetings fellow RV'ers.

Hi and howdy, Palebushman. Welcome! Love your rugby team. In fact I like rugby better than American football. Wish I could catch more of the games on American tv.
I think you saw Australian Rules not Rugby. Still like Rugby and Rugby League in preference to American football.

RE: Motor Trend First Drive of 2014 Sierra

Supposedly, NOTICE, I said supposedly, they ALL are going to use SAE J2807 starting with the 2015 models........If they do, the numbers they all tout today, will change DRASTICALLY.
I would say a substantial drop, but if that "Standard'" was not so subjective(I get the impression of a lot of manufacturers input) it would be a lot worse.

RE: Best engine of the year (again)

Three cylinder, 1000cc turbocharged.....engine of the year ? I hope I'm not reduced to driving a vehicle with an engine smaller than many motorcycle engines.
What a dinky little engine. I wonder if it will fit into a model airplane:)

RE: #1 College Football Punter 2013

RobertRyan, I personally want to thank-you for your professional insight into this topic. Obviously, I made a few mistakes in my posts, but from the videos I watched showing Cameron Johnston punting a football, I feel he is the real deal! Again, thanks for your expertise, Bags.
How "football' or the different typed developed across the globe is a fascinating subject in itself.

RE: Is it a truck camper?

Around here they were called chassis mounts. Later on they morphed into small class C's such as Sunrader and the early Dolphins on Toyota chassis. We Tiger owners consider our vehicles to be Class C's, but I always say that mine is a TC at heart and that's why I hang out here on the TC forum
Quite Common in Australia.

RE: Hymer class A coming to the US?

They would take some redesign though. US rigs are expected to come with a generator and an A/C unit, and cassette toilets are a no-no, so they would have to have a black tank.
Add to that a slideout
This is a small German maker who puts a slideout on their Ducato based A.

RE: #1 College Football Punter 2013

Here is a site explaining how the early game of American football began back in 1820:
Those games are like the games that preceded Rugby/Australian Rules etc and have no bearing on those modern games. Ancient Rugby influenced American Football, Canadian Football and Modern Rugby and Rugby League.
American football resulted from several major divergences from rugby, most notably the rule changes instituted by Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football". Among these important changes were the introduction of the line of scrimmage and of down-and-distance rules.
Interestingly the "Line of scrimmage" is the dividing area for both sides in a scrum.

RE: #1 College Football Punter 2013

American football started many decades before 1865. American football began in 1820 between classes within a college and later between colleges.
No it did not. Those games represent early Soccer Like Football games were also played in Australia. it was "anything rules." American football as we see it today broke away from Rugby in the 1880's. That is why similar rules, football shape etc.In Canada the CFL a similar game to NFL was called the Canadian Rugby Union for many years.
http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~samuelpe/history-american-football.html
However, the general consensus is that the first traces of what later would develop into multi/million industry; football or rugby, began in Europe, it is easily conceivable that England would act as the breeding-ground for the sport, but early signs of rugby can be found in all the major medieval powers of Europe, for example France and Spain.
Even for an untrained eye, it would be easy to spot why rugby would act as the sport which would give American football a sense of history. The first games that could be identified as leading to the formalization of both rugby union and American football are the Atherstone Shrovetide Game, dating back to 1199 and the Eton Wall Game

RE: #1 College Football Punter 2013

Yup, that's him! Sure didn't have any good stats at all in Australia and a pro rugby player? Ya right! This OSU story is 180 degrees from his punting ability and non-hype well deserved during his 21 years in Australia and playing rugby.
Most of the Australian punters in the NFL are retired Australian Rules players NOT Rugby Players of any stripe. He can probably kick very well.
He has never been a Rugby Player American football derived from ancient Rugby played in the 1880's. American football It still has quite a few Rugby rules dating from that time. Rugby League spun of in 1904 from Rugby.
Australian Rules started in 1865 being older than Soccer and Rugby.

AVIDA wins appeal and can become Winnebago

Just saw this.
New Avida name to continue, despite NSW motorhome manufacturer regaining right to use Winnebago name in Australia
Winnebago Australia has won back the right to use the Winnebago name Down Under, after winning an appeal against a 2012 Federal Court decision that ordered the cancellation of the Winnebago trademark in Australia.
The win means that Avida Motorhomes, the new name of Winnebago Australia since February, will be able to continue to use the tagline “Maker of the Australian Winnebago” beyond the September 2013 deadline specified in the original court decision.
The appeal was heard on March 26, with the decision delivered on June 7 before three judges of the Federal Court.
“It was unanimous, they came down with a decision that we could continue to use the name,” said Avida sales and marketing manager, Max Mayo.
“There are still some minor issues to resolve, one being costs, another being do we have to use a disclaimer... but in essence, the bottom line is we can continue to use the Winnebago name after the September date when we previously had to hand it back.”
Mayo said there would be no return to the Winnebago name, except perhaps for a new, larger, range-topping model.
“It’s not out of the question that we can launch a new model, maybe a bigger one, that can be a Winnebago, but at the moment the plans are we are going full steam ahead with Avida and we are branching out with caravans,” he said.
Mayo said Avida should have its first caravan prototype completed in the next few weeks, with the plan to unveil the new Avida caravan to the public later this year, possibly as early as the Penrith Caravan, Camping & Holiday Expo, in early-September.
The appeal was the latest round in a legal tussle with Iowa-based Winnebago Industries, which has been manufacturing motorhomes in the US since 1966. The iconic American company won a court battle last year against local manufacturers and dealers using their brand name.
Mayo said although it’s possible the US company could take it further to the High Court, he believes the three-year ordeal “has just about run its race”.
“Whether a squabble over a name is a good enough reason to go the High Court, I don’t know... I guess we’ll know in the not too distant future what they decide to do.”

RobertRyan, did you "Google" Cameron Johnston? I did and it looks quite impressive! Bags
Is this him? An Australian Rules Player NOT a Rugby Player of any stripe. Notice the date of birth.

Medium forward who was the Demons last non-AFL experienced player in the 2010 draft season.
He did not play a senior match in 2011 and was delisted at the end of the year.

RE: #1 College Football Punter 2013

His name is Cameron Johnston, a 21 year old professional rugby player in Australia and he has a right leg with cannon-like qualities and speed and athleticism of a wide receiver.
Outside I have never heard of him "Rugby" at the the junior ranks is non-professional. Rugby League is related to Rugby but a different game. You see Australian Rules Players who have retired ,punting in the NFL, but they are not Rugby Players. I hope Cameron goes onto bigger and better things in American Football.
