RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Slide out of alignment-yep happened to me. While moving the rear slide out heard a loud pop, and before you knew it one side was out of alignment. The shaft on that side snapped and only the other side moved....long story on the repair if anyone wants to hear, check my history.

RE: End of the year trip, looking for suggestions in Florida

Do a lot of birdwatching. Very relaxing. Basic gear is a bird book and a pair of binoculars. You can do this wherever you are.

RE: Finally solved my storage problems

The front tie downs points on my Okan 117 dbl almost ripped out. Five Star drilled a hole, rigged with a strong rapid link carabineer, in the metal front corner leg bracket on each side, that has 11 lag bolts. Great idea.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Checked water to both batteries of our truck camper. Inspected roof to see if I need to do any chalking, and may do a little tomorrow. Greased the front end of the F-450, eight jerk fittings, including the steering u-joints. None of the drive shafts or the carrier bearing have grease fittings? I don't know why. Bet it will cost $800 when it comes time to replace those u-joints. Double checked maintenance truck log for all filter changes, none due. Rear diff oil change and all filters except tranny, will be due soon after we return. Added Nature Conservancy and Greenpeace decals to the back of the t/c. Did a few other odds and ends. Have a good one.

RE: Daytona FLA RV parks

South of Daytona Beach, and south of New Sryna,(sp), is the small town of Oak Hill. There are several rv parks on the intercoastal waterway, sorta 1950 type rv parks off of the old hwy, small, nice and only $425/month plus what you use in electricity. This is a top fishing area. Quiet, the waterway is great, lots of dolphins. We are going back. Many good inexpensive places to eat in the area. Three Audubon Clubs, Merritt Island National Wildlife area only 15 miles to the south for a top 10 birding destination of the US in the winter. The New Sryna
library is great.Only 25 minutes to Daytona Beach.Friendly people.

RE: Statue of Liberty

I highly recommend Liberty Harbor. Great place. Been going there 12 years or more. Under new management now.The closest RV Park to NYC. Very easy to go into the city.

RE: U joint vibration?????????????

Get it checked out. Easiest to do up on a rack. U-joint problems are common and relatively cheap. Your noise sounds like exactly what mine did the last time I had the u-joints replaced.

RE: Campgrounds in Kentucky

If u are going to the Bowling Green area, why not stay at Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park, the only nat'l park in the state. Lots of shade. No hook-ups.

RE: another safety article

Many of our very experienced Mexico travel adventure friends have stopped driving in northern Mexico. Some have 40 years of experience and usually have spent 1-2 months in Mexico over each winter. Many are fluent Spanish speakers. The few who are going are flying from the states to the Yucatan, renting a vehicle and touring around that area with no problems. In fact at our recent national convention with 1100 attending there were two talks advising the above. Not worth it many say, as there are too many other places to go. There have been too many close calls with people shot not far away. Who wants to be caught in a cross-fire.

RE: Choosing Among Western National Parks

Yes, Monument Valley is the best 17 mile drive in the 48, but do not do in Aug., or whenever it is real hot. Lots of great things to do in the 4 corners area, but that area is all basically a desert and not real fun if 110 deg. as you will not want to get out of your a/c vehicle.

RE: Choosing Among Western National Parks

Going to the Sun Hwy in Glacier is one of the top drives, if not the top drive, in the 48. Great huge campground at a large lake on the west side. Make sure your t/c can do the drive as there are length restrictions. If ok, do the drive early in the day as the parking lot at the top fills up very fast. Very scenic walks in two directions from that top pass visitor center. There are other places in Montana, too. Especially if you take the attitude that you are traveling to see something different. Take the northeast drive into Yellowstone for another scenic mountain drive.

RE: Choosing Among Western National Parks

Suggest stay out of the desert during the summer heat, esp Utah in Aug. and the first 3 weeks of Sept. Been there 5 times in the spring or fall. I am 66. Get out and do some day hikes and see the national parks. Even in Yellowstone you need to walk and do the boardwalks to see things. Study your route. Don't forget state parks and local attractions. Pace yourself. If you find a great place take it in for several days, relax so you can drive another day.
