RE: Night driving having trouble seeing the wheels when turning

" I do not recall having this problem 30 years ago "
Before doing the light thing it might be a good idea to speak with an opthamologist (sp?) . Had similiar troubles and after cataract surgery it was like haveing night vision restored, and able to read street names a block away again.

RE: Think I Fixed My Generator

In answer to your question on running carb dry. I have a little Kohler 4.5 that I removed all of the electronic controls and replaced with a couple of switches and a manual choke. The unit is around 30 some years old and has 1400 hours since last rebuild. The only time it is run is when it is needed for power. If not planned to run for a couple of weeks I shut off the fuel line and let it run no load until it starts to miss, then pull the choke and let it run till it dies. Last time it sat without running for 16 months (did a lot of shore power living) And when needed power turned on fuel pump, let the carb fill, pulled the choke and hit the start. Did about 4 or 5 revs and was running. Warm up and it runs full load. This was the longest it has sat without running but many time for 5 or 6 months.

RE: suspension upgrade

A bit late now, but for others it is a lot better to hold the bolt with a large wrench when installing so that the splines are only being pulled staight in.
I removed the zerk and ech quarter turn with the nut I hit the bolt head with a dead-blow hammer to help force the splines to cut straight.
Even better would be to use a large 'C'clamp type to press the bolts in before installing nut.
Also hold the old bolt with a wrench when removing nuts to prevent weakening the spine already cut in the spring hanger.

RE: Check/Adjust your brakes

Since you had Nevradjust as original the dealer should have replaced with same. 6k & 7k brakes are basicaly the same except for the shoe lining material and the magnets.

RE: heavy gauge wire from truck to 5th wheel for charging

Did this with a solenoid and Anderson connector. Used 4guage siamesed booster cable. Works well and will run a steady 60 amps if needed.

RE: Does your fiver sit level when hitched?

The equalizer is to allow somewhat independant movement of the suspension when travelling. It will NOT stop weight from transfering to the rear axle as the nose is raised. In fact the percentage rate of transfer increases the more the nose is raised, it is not a linear increase.

RE: red light camera ticket

Often wondered how a piece of "speedglas" would work installed in the licence plate frame --- thats the self dimming glass in a welding helmet. Maybe the flash would blacken it before the camera got a picture. ? :B

RE: Lift Kit 1971 24FT Prowler Trailer

"it has electric brakes but they don't work and yes the trailer is very heavy"
The axle that you show in the pics does not have brakes. Maybe you have on only one axle and that is the reason they don't appear to work ??

RE: So FED UP with Propane. Advice Please

Probably got that oily stuff from the propane tank building up at a low point in your propane line under the RV. Will allow gas to bleed through when warm, but will thicken up and block the flow when cold.
Disconnect ALL propane lines at stove, water heater, and fridge. Remove regulator from low pressure line. Get an air compressor and give a good shot into each opened line, starting with the stove. As you finish each one cap it and go to the next.
The reason of starting with the stove is so you won't blow all that s**t out into the kitchen.
Do not apply air pressure with any appliance connected.

RE: Lift Kit 1971 24FT Prowler Trailer

You might want to think about new running gear. Those shackle and equalizer pivots look pretty well worn. Also that trailer looks a bit heavy to not have brakes.

If you have exposed copper lines under rig, look for possible crimp and/or rock damage resricting gas flow.

You are correct, electric drum brakes do NOT operate the same way as car or truck brakes

RE: Self adjusting or manual adjusting brakes

If you are going to do brakes by replacing backing plates complete and you now have 2"x12" brakes on any axles, do yourself a favour and get 7K plates. they are all the same except you have a much better lining on the 7K's. big difference in stopping power for lighter trailers. And yes the self adjusters work very well.

RE: Lube plate wearing grooves into hitch

my lube plate seems to be wearing small groves into my hitch down to the metal on some portions of the outer extremities of the plate wear area
As the quote states " to " the metal, not into the metal. IMHO this means the wear was through the powder coat and after a couple of years and multi miles I don't think this is a worry or preventable.
