My Son is currently working at Glacier, I was there in August to visit him, and we drove through West Glacier KOA, very nice, and close to the west entrance of Glacier. We did the red bus tour, Crown of the Continent, excellent! Also, I would highly recommend the zip lining at Whitefish Mtn.,we had so much fun there, did the 7 lines. Your boys would love that! Glacier is one of those places, so beautiful, that you just say OMG!
We stayed in loop A on our first trip to Ft. Pickens. Loved it, the road getting to the campground is so scenic. The Gulf is right there. If you are wanting beach access, A loop is the way to go. The beach is right there just across the campground road. The sites are not as private as I like, but we were there for the beach, and it is beautiful.
Just back from Glacier. Truly a beautiful place. Ate at several good restaurants in Whitefish. Ciao Mambo's Italian was probably my favorite, also Amazing Crepes has some "amazing crepes"! The Red Bus tour "Crown of the Continent" tour was a really great way to see Glacier. Also, have to recommend the zip lining at Whitefish Mountain. That was on my bucket list. After going, I can see why my Son wants to live there. Had the huckleberry pie and ice cream at the restaurant in West Glacier. Thanks for all the suggestions, will definitely have to make another trip.
I am going to Glacier at the end of this month, will let you know. My Son is working there, and this is not a RV trip for me. Just going to visit Son. So far, we have 2 trips planned on the red bus. Doing the Going to the Sun road from west Glacier to St. Mary, and doing the red bus to Waterton, and the Prince of Wales hotel. We have also planned the ziplining in Whitefish, and rafting in west glacier. I am not a big hiker either, but my Son has planned a couple of short hikes for me. He is a big hiker, does 20-30 miles every weekend. I am looking forward to going, the pictures he has sent me are awesome!
Ummmmm, if you son is working there he should have an idea of some decent places to eat.
Thanks for the help!:( Son does have some suggestions, just wanted to ask for other suggestions from those who have been there. Anyway, thanks to those who offered helpful suggestions, really have to try the huckleberry pie!
Going to Glacier in August. This will not be a RV trip. I will be going for a week to visit my Son who is working there. Looking for any great restaurants around Whitefish or West Glacier. We have a lot planned. Going on GTSR to East Glacier, Zipline in Whitefish, rafting trip in West Glacier, and we are going to Canada, to visit Waterton, and Prince of Wales Hotel. We still have a couple of days to plan. Need some advice of those who have been there, and anything I have not planned that we need to do.
We stayed at Ft. Pickens in April, nice park. We were in Loop A, about as close to the beach as you can get. The road leading out to the cg was probably the closest road to the gulf that I have ever been on. Just wish that the cg was a little more private, but the beach is beautiful, and the drive out there was very unique. A beautiful place, and quite different.
For next year, I would check out the park lodgings on glacierinc.com. I am going to Glacier in august to visit my son, who is working there. I am staying at Grouse Mountain Lodge, which looks to be nice, but not in the park.We have reserved the red bus tour for the going over the sun road, and son has booked us a tour to their sister park, waterton. If I would have had more time to make reservations, I would have definitely stayed at Lake McDonald Lodge.
We have stayed at Topsail, Henderson, and Ft. Pickens. Drove thru Gulf Shores, and Grayton, but haven't stayed there. My fav is Topsail, Hubby likes Henderson better. Really, you can't go wrong with any of these cgs. I will have to say if you stay at ft. Pickens, stay in the A loop, beach is very close, but campsites don't have a lot of privacy. Henderson has the most privacy and huge campsites, closer to the beach than Topsail, and Destin is right outside the park. Topsail is more manicured, has a pool, beautiful beach, but it is a farther walk, bike ride, or tram to it.
Looking at going to this state park. Have always wanted to go there and since TN now have online reservations, I can reserve a site. Just don't know anything about the sites there. Any of you camped there, and have a favorite site? Our 5th wheel is 35ft. Thanks!
We recently returned from camping at Ft.Pickens, had never camped there and really enjoyed it. The area is beautiful! Also, our favorites are Henderson Beach and Topsail Hill. Have fun, we try to camp at the beach once a year, and we love those gulf area campgrounds.
