RE: Facts on towing
Is your van FWD or AWD? If its AWD I believe it needs to be on a flatbed trailer or all 4 wheels on a dolly. If its FWD, I think you can put it on a dolly, but neither can be flat towed. But I would check your owners manual to be sure.
RE: Stereo System in PUP
Another option would be to mount the stereo in a "marine" enclosure, then you could mount it to the side of a cabinet or under the cabinet or on top of the counter if you wanted to. then use either some speakers in a box or mount them in a cabinet. We didn't have one in our pup, we were cheap/poor then so we just used a boom box.
RE: What do you mean "Big Rig" friendly?
There are many instances where roads are not big rig friendly or whatever you call it, whale or other. I've come across roads where the overhead clearance is only 10', not generally RV friendly. Or highways with steep inclines, or sharp drop offs or lots of switchbacks. Not very fun to drive with a big rig, but usually do-able. Other roads with length limits (Independence pass here comes to mind 35' length limit). Or tunnels with propane restrictions. Gas stations can be fun with overhead awnings being low or tight manuevering room. Many NP's have campsites no longer than 30'. So the questions are legitimate usually. Will my RV fit here! But big rig is a relative term. My current RV is only 30' not what I consider big, last one was closer to 50' with TV + TT (so a bit bigger). Have seen many a TV + TT/5er + toad or another trailer behind it, probably pushing the legal limits there.
RE: HOAs and campers
If it's been there for 7 years with nothing from the HOA, sounds like somebody (neighbor) complained about it. In many cases they don't do anything unless someone complains about it.
RE: What is your campfire profile?
We usually only do a campfire at night, don't leave one going 24x7 for sure. Use matches, paper, kindling to get it going. don't need a bon fire, just enough to keep us warm and roast some marshmallows. But where we camp, it usually gets cool at night, no 80 degrees at night for sure. usually a chance of snow anytime of the year where we camp. We usually pack our own wood, as the campgrounds charge an awful lot. Unless we are visiting our friends up north in Canada (cannot cross the border with firewood).
RE: Memories of one fine real compact pickup
Had a truck with the old 22RE engine, was an awesome little motor, darn near indestructible. Sold it with 160k was still running strong, original tranny, clutch, motor. Just needed a truck with more pulling power. Had 100k on it before I had to put new brakes on it.
RE: Where to vacation this fall?
What about other places like Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, RMNP, Mt. Rushmore, just a bit south of where you were gonna go. If u can make it next year, still would do GNP, Banff, Jasper, well worth the trip.
RE: How often is your trailer in for work
One time to fix the refrigerator (Dometic), was one of the control boards. Once for the front cap developing a crack. Twice for the front window leaking. All under warranty, although they never did get the front window leak fixed entirely.
RE: is it ok to park my RV at tent camp site?
I'd be surprised if your C fits in those spots, many are sized just to fit a car in them. Might be worthwhile to ask the campground host.
RE: Problem connecting to websites?
Thats the one running Vista correct? I'd suspect Vista, are they running any firewall software on it? If so, maybe lower the settings or temporarily disable the firewall to see if that helps.
The guest account may have limited access to the internet as well, can you set them up as a non guest?
RE: Who will be where for Labor Day?
Away from work, that is for sure. Wherever my cell/pager doesn't work is fine with me! Just heading up to a small lake about an hour west of town.
RE: New Visa Card trick
even if u do an e-payment, many banks change/move up the 'due date' so all of a sudden your epayment is now late, and you get hit with late fee's and/or increased interest rates. Or if you don't pay off the balance in full every month, you get charged with additional interest when you do pay it off, even if on time. Unfortunately some credit unions have farmed out their credit cards to 3rd parties, so you don't always get the benefits of a credit union, check with your local credit union to be sure.
RE: Laptop Mag rates manufactures tech support
I'd frankly not rate lenovo so high either, just due everyone I've known that uses them (we use them at work) has seen just about everyone's HD fail. I've only called HP for support on their printers, not laptops, and would not rate the above the grade they got in that article either. Guy just read from a script, was hard to understand, and in the end proved fruitless in terms of resolution of the problem.
Now on the other hand, I've had to deal with Canon support for my camera, I would give them a definite thumbs up!
RE: Tire Life expectancy
Check the DOT code on your tires as well. My 04 MH had tires from 02 on them. By the time Detroit or WH builds the frame, sends it over to the RV mfr to build, then off to a lot, they can sit an awful long time before you even buy your new MH.
RE: sight of neighbor's sewer hose from patio
The sight of one is ok, as thats part of RV'ing, can do without the smell! But no tree, shrub, bush or fence is gonna help with that! lol!
As long as the RV'er isn't just dumping the stuff on the ground or street, I'm ok with it.
RE: Choose Class C Motorhome
I think the chassis/ride will be a wash, as they are all probably on a Ford chassis with the V10. The Winnebago is nice as its 1/2 the cost of the the highest price one you are looking at. So you won't be out as much $$$. However, that being said, it is approaching the age where things will need to be replaced (e.g. tires, belts, hoses, batteries). So I would do a thorough checkout on the Winnebago (or maybe negotiate for new tires, belts, hoses, batteriest). As that stuff can add up real fast! In terms of appliances and such, they probably all have comparable equipment on the inside, as there are only a few vendors of each appliance for an RV (dometic or norcold for the refrigerator), suburban or atwood for the water heater, onan generator, etc. So I think the basic appliances will be a wash as well. I'd look at fit/finish on each, and see how well each one was cared for, or see if they have any maintenance records on each. We have a Coachmen, which is now owned for FR I think, but we are happy with it. We know its not the top of the line, but hey it works for us, and fits our budget.
RE: Riding Inside Travel Trailer?
I can't say I've ever seen a TT or 5er with seat belts in them. Since most if not all states require seat belts, not sure how that could be legal then? Can't imagine the ride being very good either. Although many states seem to be ok with TC's and/or 5er's. But then again, don't recall seeing any TC's with seat belts either.
