RE: OBX Cape Hatteras KOA in late June?

Just left Ocean Waves next door yesterday. KOA got nailed again last year by two major storms. They are valiantly rebuilding again and it looks kike they will be in good shape by June, if not before.
Enjoy - OBX are as beautiful as ever despite nature's battering.

RE: campgrounds

Mystic KOA has some nice sites and is a short drive to Mystic itself. It is pricey, but so is everything in the area. One note, Seaport Campground does not have full hookups, just W/E, in case that is a factor.

RE: A problem I never knew existed.

Some great conversations here. I subscribe to that basic concept, that what one person may like another may hate, and many of those things cannot be changed, like the weather. Any review, commercially done, or user generated, needs to be taken with a grain of salt. And when you get there, you may think everyone was wrong. That is why we have wheels on our rigs. Of course that doesn't help much if you have a two week non-refundable reservation.

RE: New England

Since you asked about Boston - your best bet is Boston Minuteman. Close to public transportation, which is the best way to visit the city. Also, owners are great folks and can give you information for touring the area. http://www.minutemancampground.com/

RE: Lake George RV Park - Saratoga Springs, NY

LGRVP does not guarantee site location, but they will try. Might be OK early in the season. I agree with earlier post about the section to the left of the office is probably the best.
I suspect this makes no difference, but the park is actually in Queensbury, just south of Lake George, not in Saratoga Springs.

RE: Erie Canal NY Campgrounds

Unfortunately, what you see is what you get in that particular area. We frequent mid-state NY fairly often and have found that you either need to be in the Syracuse/Utica area, or around the Finger Lakes to find anything nice.

RE: National Dolphin MH

We have a 2006 Surf Side and we love it. Remember, your chassis is not made by National, nor are the vast majority of components, appliances, etc. You may run into a bit of trouble if you need certain body parts, but you will find that there are even some sources for these. And, even if a company is still in business, don't count on them stepping up for the latter kinds of things.Been there, done that with a previous coach. There are a lot of rigs on the road out there that are orphans, not just National. Get yourself a good deal and go for it. By the way, you might check the IRV2 forum and sign up for the National RV blog.
Good luck and travel safe.

RE: Well's Beach Resort

Yes, there is a trolley that goes by the park, but it usually does not operate until June and then only on weekends until July. That was as of last year - it could change I suppose.

Quechee Pine Valley KOA is very nice. They have a variety of sites and the staff are very helpful with suggestions for touring around the area.

You should not have any problem with parking pretty much anywhere during May, other than Memorial Day Weekend.

RE: New England in May - Suggestions for a first timer?

NY Thruway Buffalo to the MA Pike is about $57 assuming you have a total of four axles. All of the suggestions for two lane roads are nice, but being on a time budget, probably not a good idea. You also have to take into consideration that stop and go driving is awful on your gas mileage. You will get other opinions, but highway driving at 55 - 60 is your MPG's best friend. Don't get me wrong, we love the back roads - but when time is an issue - save em for that waiting retirement.

RE: New England Campgrounds

Depending on the part of VT you want to visit you won't go wrong with these:
As I am sure you know, to visit VT & NH you are going to have to get way off of 95.
Brattleboro North KOA in the south.
Quechee Pine Valley KOA mid-state on the western side.
Sugar Ridge in Danville in the North on the western side.
Champlain Adult Campground in Grand Isle in the North on the east. (Beautiful and right on Lake Champlain. Don't let the name scare you - they do not have things for kids to do and there is a drop off to the lake).

RE: What would you do?

Floor plan is #1 if you plan on "living" in it a lot. Those that have talked about riding comfort probably put on a lot of miles. For the three to four thousand miles we put on a year, my F53 chassis is fine for me. One thing that was not mentioned is low mileage vs age. Low mileage on an older unit may mean that it sat for long periods of time. Diesels in particular don't like that. But gassers aren't crazy about it either. Make sure you take a good look at the interior of older low mileage rigs. If they were lived in a lot things can get pretty shabby. Fixing shabby is not cheap unless you are a DIY. Been there, done that.
Good luck with your decision - take your time - get what you think will work for you.

RE: RV spots

There is a campground in Williamsburg, VA that has Amtrak trains passing by. They were probably only 30 - 50 feet from us. You get used to it after a while and don't even notice them.
Stayed at the same place and it wasn't the Amtrak trains that bothered us. It was the coal/fuel trains headed to and from Norfolk all night that made us move.:E I actually think that park has sites that are closer to the tracks than what is shown in that video.

RE: portsmouth maine

There is what is supposed to be a really nice campground in Berwick, which of course is north of South Berwick, and not on the coast.http://beaverdamcampground.com/
York is about 8-10 miles from S. Berwick and Wells about 10 - 12. Probably not a lot of difference travel time.
If you really want to be on the ocean, there isn't much in NH that would be any closer to where you need to be.
Anyhow. Enjoy and good luck with your decision.

RE: portsmouth maine

Wells Beach Resort is very nice.http://wellsbeach.com/
Libby's is right on the ocean, but it pretty tight and very pricey.http://www.libbysoceancamping.com/rates.html
I know nothing about Flaggs other than that they are a part of the Morgan Chain, which in other locations make me run the other way.
There are a couple of other parks in the Wells, Ogunquit area, but again, I really know very little about them.
Good luck. Travel safe.

RE: New England Trip

Great way to get around Hartford:
Take 691 toward Meriden atExit 27 off of 84
Take 91 north at Exit 11 of of 691
Take Ct15 north at Exit 29 off of 91
Ct15 becomes 84 and you have missed most of the Hartford traffic.
