RE: Thor quality

Thor is not considered to be among the "top tier" of manufacturers, but then again neither is their price. They must be doing something right. Haven't heard of any build problems for Thor, the same cannot be said for other manufacturers who are routinely listed as a "top tier" manufacturer.
I guess you "get what you pay for"...

RE: Thor quality

It seems to me that I've seen people say "no way", and I've seen just as many say, "no problems". It does seem that when someone asks for a list of the top manufacturers, Thor doesn't seem to make the cut. I'm not sure I've ever seen Thor on anyone's top list.
We have a Thor product that we're happy with. It's not a higher end unit, but we also didn't pay a higher end price for it. We feel like we got some nice features for the money spent.
I think that within any manufacturer's offerings, you're going to have poor quality issues from time to time. No manufacturer will have 100% satisfaction.
I'd find a Thor/Tuscany owners' forum and ask there. They'll be able to give you first-hand answers.

Good Luck with your decision.

RE: How to go about pricing

How would you go about pricing? We are seeing a lot of variation between craigslist, rv trader, nadaguides, and so on.
The price really depends on brand, engine, trans, chassis, miles, condition, location and options. Is the coach financed?
If you advertise it and get no calls or interest, the price is too high and you can always lower it after a few weeks... If it sells in a few hours of posting, the price was too low. Goodnews, spring is probably the right time of year to sell :W
Consignment is another option, my friend had his bumper tow toyhauler sold in about a week from a local RV dealer that he ordered a new Class A coach from...
Good Luck!

Look for CG's that have pull thru sites at least 65' and you should be fine.

RE: What would you do?

i think how you are going to use the MH makes a big difference.
I agree! If you intend to put miles on your coach annually, I think a diesel is the better choice. If your coach is always parked at a storage facility or your house, then I think a gasser maybe a better option. I only put about 2k to 5k miles annually on my coach, so an "entry level" gasser was the better option for me.
Good luck with your decision.

RE: Question on brake controllers (for a trailer)

My F53 (MH) chassis coach did not come with a electric brake controller, I took mine from my 2007 F-350 (sold it) and it plugged into the same location (under dash) \ connector on my F53 (MH).
Good luck!

RE: Parking on sand

High desert typically is not loose sand - but it 'could' be. It would be best if you walked the parking spot first before pulling in. High desert 'sand' is generally hard-packed. It's not at all like beach or dune sand. It's combined with rocks and some soil. Think of Quartzsite, AZ in January where millions park out in the desert. It's the same thing, but again, walk it first just in case she lives in a sand dune! Also, once parked, do put a piece of board under your jacks - especially if you would have a little rain. I wish! If it does rain hard it will take a day or two to dry enough so you can drive out. Many RVers park in this type of terrain. I wouldn't be too concerned. Enjoy your stay!
X2!
In most cases, this type of sand (hard packed dirt really) is much different than beach sand. There could be a sand wash that might have softer sand under it, but you could see the color difference in the soil if you are driving on the terrain during the day.
I do it all the time (boondock on desert private property). If it's hard enough to drive on, you'll be fine "parking" on it. When you level, you might consider using legos or something similar under each jack pad to increase the size of the footprint and avoid sinking.

RE: How can I take both my toys, Wrangler & Harley

I would consider the flat trailer to haul my dirt bike and jeep wrangler but then what do you do with the trailer once at camp site? Most CA parks I'm finding only allow 35' or less (my excursion I'm buying is 33'). Plus some only allow RV and one car... but now you'd have trailer to deal with too.
Trying to figure out the most efficient and easiest way to take RV, Jeep Wrangler 4 door, and Yamaha TW200 dirt bike (only 300lbs)
Are you getting the Excursion from Holland motorhome in SM? If so, it's a nice coach ;)
I have a 8.5 x 20' Carson flat trailer, but it's not long enough to fit both my RZR XP900 and my JKUR. Additionally, the weight of the trailer alone is around 1500 lbs empty. :(
There are many RV parks that offer pull-through sites that are 60' or longer. Additionally, there are also RV parks that have over flow parking lots, but you will obviously have to disconnect and 'drop' the trailer. With a little bit of planning and research, using a trailer is possible but not as convenient as flat towing.

RE: Anyone ever regret upgrading

I upgraded from a bumper tow toyhauler (Fleetwood GearBox 260 fb) \ 2007 F350 FX4 Lariat PSD LB to a 2007 FW Hurricane 30Q (no slides or auto levelers), then to my current coach (see sig). I regret not going directly to my current coach, when I decided to make the change away from my toyhauler.
Sure, I would've preferred to make the jump to a DP, but it just doesn't make financial sense for me at this point in my life and my amount of weekend usage.
Best of luck with your decision.

My friend modified a late model Toyota 4runner to tow 4 down, I think he spent about $3,500 (excluding tow bar and associated accessories).

Park RV length restrctions vary, be sure to check the park you plan to visit. I've seen the average around 35 ft.

RE: To toad brake or not to toad brake....

Executive,
Your chart isn't correct, at least for CA. Towing double in CA by RVs has been illegal since before I retired from the CHP. And when it was legal it was only a watercraft behind a fifth wheel.
TRIPLE towing has never been legal in CA for anything but very limited commercial vehicles and then only on very specific routes.
Double towing is one tow vehicle pulling a trailer or semi trailer which is pulling another trailer. Triple towing would be another trailer or semi trailer hooked on to the rear of two other trailers in combination.
Sir, I think you are incorrect, please cite your CVC.
A friend on mine has a CA CDL (class A license), he triple tows all the time granted it's not with a Class A coach, his tow combo is a F350\5th wheel trailer\small utility trailer behind.
CA CDL (Commercial Class A license) requirements
Length of Vehicle/Loads–Combination Vehicles
In a combination of vehicles, auxiliary parts or equipment which do not provide space for carrying a load or are not used to support or carry the vehicle may exceed the single vehicle length limit, but the combination may not exceed the length limit for combinations.
An articulated bus or trolley coach cannot exceed a length of 60 feet.
A semitrailer being towed by a motor truck or truck tractor may exceed 40 feet when certain conditions are met (CVC §35400b(4)).
A combination of a truck tractor and a trailer coupled together shall not exceed a total length of 65 feet except as provided in CVC §§35401 and 35401.5.
A combination of vehicles consisting of a truck tractor, a semitrailer, and a trailer cannot be longer than 75 feet, providing the length of either trailer does not exceed 28 feet 6 inches.
If posted, cities and counties may prohibit a combination of vehicles in excess of 60 feet in length on highways they control.
Other exceptions can be found in CVC §35401.5. Extension devices are allowed with restrictions (CVC §35402).
The load length on any vehicle or combination of vehicles may not be more than 75 feet long measured from the front of vehicle or load to the back of vehicle or load.
