RE: OK so we finaly made it to Quartzite!

I have always been under the impression that the BLM put all those holes out there for draining grey water into.

RE: Ho2 to repair crack in plastic bathtub

Go to the local RV parts place and see if they have a Syon kit.
Syon makes a number of repair kits for black and grey and fresh water tanks as well as kits to repair cracked RV showers and tubs.
There is one to repair fuel tanks as well. All of their kits really do work.
Follow the directions precisely.

RE: Power Problem - Coach Batteries

Many coach builders attach numerous leads directly to the battery terminals. This can include grounds as well as positives. Since you have changed batteries go back and re-visit the area around the batteries and double check that there are no leads that were inadvertently left disconnected. If you do find disconnected leads be sure you know which post they should go to. Confusion as to where they were connected is the next problem those who have done this face.

RE: Have You Explained Your Montana LLC To A State Trooper

You don't have to explain diddly to a state trooper. It's none of his business. If he thinks there is a violation of the law he can cite you and then you can take it up with the courts either yourself or thru your attorney. Trying to explain things to these guys is fruitless.
If you are driving a vehicle not registered to you, then it is his business for you to demonstrate to his satisfaction that you have not stolen the vehicle.
Not necessarily!! Especially here in the land of INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

RE: Replace front TV

Just about everyone I have removed required the removal of the front trim ring from the cabinet. Screws are either in from the sides and bottom or are hidden behind the little mushroomed shape oak buttons right on the front of the trim.

RE: Walmart brand motor oil.

I am not a big Wal Mart fan but they don't own any oil companies so others are bottling their oil for them and if the API specs on the container meet the latest API standards their stuff will work just as well as the next guys. I run theirs or Sams Club best oil in my older vehicles and they don't know the difference. I am still not using their stuff in the Motor home and other trucks. I donot use their filters either. They are probably ok but I am more comfortable with a filter from a name brand manufacturer who by the way is probably making wal marts. Just can't take that step tho.

RE: Should I store it on concrete or gravel?

Your tires worst enemy is moisture coming out of whatever the rv is parked on. This contributes to the dry rot that everyone attributes to the sun. Don't get me wrong as the sun is a contributor but not nearly as harsh as moisture. You can park on gravel, dirt, concrete, wood, asphalt, and anything else that is porous and retains moisture and dry rot will attack your tires.
Some who have poured concrete slabs to park on have laid down plastic and poured over that but that still does not stop moisture from coming up out of the concrete.
You need a barrier to park each tire on that moisture cannot permeate.Only then can you help stop the dry rot attack. That can be metal like sheet metal flashing used by roofers either aluminum or steel. It can be plastic, like plastic cutting boards and there are even some high dollar plastic shields sold expressly for parking on. Be sure as well that water cannot puddle around your tires where ever you park and store the rv.

RE: Internet

I use Alltell's UM175 wireless usb modem. You can plug directly into a usb port with the modem or it comes with a wye cable that will let you plug into 2 usb ports and set the modem in a window some distance from the computer if needed. It has worked everytime for me all over the U.S. Not particularly cheap at 60.00 some dollars a month, but it works great.

RE: house batteries

Hopefully it is setup to charge both batteries, but not necessarily. Check around on your vehicle and see if there is a splitter or solenoid there that would allow both batteries to be charged. The easy way to determine this is to hook up your v.o.m. to each battery with the engine running and see what voltage is present. Then shut it off and read the meter. With the engine off you should read battery voltage only at around 12.65 volts if the batteries are in good shape. With the engine running battery voltage will read as high as 13.5 to as much as 13.9 volts.

RE: ? about installing a holding tank.

Replacing the tank is asking for a lot of work when there are a couple of alternatives to look at first. There is now a process for welding these plastic tanks both clear and black.
My preferred approach is to purchase one or more holding tank repair kits made by an outfit called SYON. Usually available at RV supply and parts places. They make kits for all the different plastic holding tanks including fuel tanks, rv shower stalls, freshwater tanks, etc. By following the directions carefully you will have a successful repair and save yourself a whole lot of grief trying to remove a tank from a built and complete unit that the tank was installed in probably before much else; if not first.
Also definitely drill the small holes at each end of the cracks as others have suggested.

RE: Shower drain clogged/not draining- help!

Cut up a wire clothes hanger and bend a small hook on one end. Take the cover off the drain and go in with the clothes hanger and pull all the hair and whatever else out of the drain and it will be fine. It's a lousy job but it will get the drain flowing again.
While you are in the puke mode go on in the house and do those to. Might as well get it all done at one time.

RE: Cost of RV Parks

Corps of Engineers parks and other federal parks are $10.00
with a Golden Age Passport and many have various water and electric hookups and all have a common waste dump usually handy on the way out of the park.
Many state parks are reasonable and offer a variety of hookups.

RE: Retire @ 55

The key to that early retirement is good medical insurance. It is not the time of life to be uninsured. A bad illness will deplete your savings quickly. Each and everyone of us has to pretty much judge our own preparedness and determine if our savings are adequate. If things go sour healthwise between 55 and 65 it can be a long haul to 65.
If most hospitals are like our local hospital they will go after any and all of your assets including your house, stick model or rolling model in a heart beat. They have no qualms about putting you on the street. Especially the so called non profits.

RE: GM to kill the Saturn brand.

I agree with you vwsportsbug. They screwed a lot of people. I have a chevy now but when I upgrade it will most likely be a ford or toyota. It's to bad gm put out so much junk through the 80's & 90's just figuring people would keep going back. If they hadn't waited so long to actually improve the product they never would of had the problem. I love my chevy but I can't support a government motors.
Junk through the 80s and 90s? Go back in time and just look at some of the junk they built. Through out their history they have always had their share of junk sprinkled through out the good stuff. And trying to be fair G.M.has built some good stuff off and on.
One of their short comings was to force their junk onto the public for the public to test for them. Remember knee action independent front ends in the late 30s early 40s. Then there was the Buick Dynaflow transmission. Junk but along side was the Hydramatic transmission. One of the best around at the time. Then the Chevrolet Powerglide automatic where all your power would glide out the tail pipe. Then beginning in 1958 they offered all their cars with an air suspension system. That was around for about 3 years and then quietly went away. That was another G.M. mess where the customer was taken advantage of and paid for the experimentation. They had the Autronic eye that would automatically dim your head lights and the wonder bar radio that would automatically change radio stations (sometimes). Where did that go? There is no end to the list of******they foisted off on the car buying public. It is hard to feel sorry for them. At the same time I don't want to see the american car industry displaced by foreign cars either.

RE: Tire Pressure Sensor

I have been using a Pressure Pro system for the last 4 years 4 months and the batteries are failing requiring replacement of the sending units (transmitters). Initially when I bought the system in 05 they claimed they would swap out your dead units for 15.00 each. In the recent past that figure soared to 35.00 per unit with the pressure Pro folks denying they ever offered a 15.00 price for sending unit replacement. I have taken mine out of service and it and all its related parts now reside in the future yard sale bin.
I will say that as long as the batteries held up the unit worked fine. Its that high price for replacements that is the killer after paying 50.00 each for senders (transmitters)when purchased new.
Before my next trip I am going to purchase a Hawkshead system as I can change the batteries myself with their system.
