RE: Boondocking along Left Coast?

Most of the free, or close to free overnighting along the north coast that was done (back in the 70's), has since been disallowed. When I was a kid there were all sorts of dispersed camping areas everywhere up and down the coast. But the homeless, under the disguise of fulltimers, have forced the closure of most everything by taking advantage of something free.

RE: why would you do that?

When my folks Fulltimed, their shower was used as storage for my mom. And their truck that they pulled around everywhere was for storage for my mom. Anymore questions?

RE: Route from Reno to Redwood

Hwy 44 from just west of Susanville to Redding is a nice 2-lane road. Fine for any rig combination. Hwy 299, IMHO, is also fine but some people on here swear it's the pits. There are curves and passes, but logging trucks used to use it all the time - back when we had logging. As long as you're not in a hurry, and not bothered by a few cars that will back up until the passing lanes, it should be a nice drive.

RE: Will spend Independence weekend at Likely Place.....

Likely RV park is nice, especially for those of us that enjoy golfing. We don't go there to camp, since there are all sorts of places in the Warners, but the golf is fun.

RE: Looking at a diesel, but not sure?????

If you can get it for a good price, like I did, it is worth it.

RE: Clearing slide-out roof before leaving camp

If I feel there might be something up there, I will climb up my rear ladder with a small broom and sweep it off. I crawl around up top on my knees.

RE: morning smell

If I had an odor from the bathroom, I would start smelling around at the toilet bowl, floor around the toilet, the roof vent, the sink drain or under sink trap area. the black tank should not stink up the bathroom, since it is sealed.

RE: Boondocking pet dangers

Letting our dog off the leash is one of the added benefits while camping in the boondocks. We look out for wild critters, but don't seem to come across too many.

RE: What's in your tool box?

My tools at home do not come with me while campin'. Those tools you buy at Home Depot would now stay in the rv.

RE: Age or mileage ?

Age and mileage means totally different things when it comes to RV's.
You can't go by how you buy a car.
A newer RV with 'very' low miles could mean it has just been sitting in a CG sinking into the dirt. The worst of worst purchases. Sitting long periods of time and not used is the kiss of death for them.
That's why IMHO, JMHO IMHO I prefer to buy my RV's from private parties.
Most RV'ers are anal when it comes to charting all what they have done to their RV's over the years because most are VERY proud of how they took care of it. AND can show you. Some people can only get away when they have vacation for long trips and maybe only RV once a month. So Mileage on an RV is a difficult thing to pigeon hole.
And on the other side of all that is you will KNOW if it was an RV parked in park as a living vehicle when you go to see it!! Just saying.
I think the discussion is tow vehicle.

RE: What is your favorite feature?

So many years without a slide. The slide has made the living/kitchen area roomy.

RE: I have an odd question, have you forgotten where you are?

Since the interior of our rig always stays the same, and changing new camping locations all the time, many times when I get up in the morning I have to look outside to get my bearings. Odd feeling not knowing where north is.

RE: Can I get 35' 5th wheel into a lot of natural spots?

Our 25 ft 5er is too long for some of our favorite Forest Service campground spots. Some of the access roads are too tight and height is an issue also. But we can get into a lot more of our type of spaces than a 34 footer.

RE: Do I really need a sliding hitch?

Never pulling forward, but backing up and turning either into a camp spot or on the street/parking lot, the last thing I want to worry about is whether or not I'm going to hit my cab. My focus is entirely on the maneuvering.

RE: Yosemite,Redwood n.p.

There are no campgrounds in Redwood National park. The park is huge and is combined with the state park system that does have some parks in the region

RE: Yosemite,Redwood n.p.

Redwood National Park, located along the north coast of California, is best visited in September, IMHO. Less fog and less people. Some of the best weather up there is in September too.

RE: Sugestions

If its an area of the region where people want to go as a destination, then I would suggest more advertising, not signage at the site.
