RE: 460 versus V10

So what RPM should a 97 460 be turning going uphill? I may be lugging it down to much without knowing it.

RE: Progressive insurance

Progressive went up about 25 dollars a year so I compared them to others including Good Sam, Allstate, Geico and Farmers and others and Progressive was the cheapest. Geico tried to pull a fast one bydropping road coverage and other things to match the price.I've had a windshield, an awning, and 2 tires changed without any hassle. I'm a happy customer.

RE: Is this doable? Crazy idea?? Class A home

Or how about this. You buy the land, get the power, water, and sewer that you need for a one bedroom cabin, build a one room cabin with a bathroom that has a washer and dryer in it and a kitchen sink with hookup for a stove. Next to that you have a parking pad with power and water hookups for your rv whatever you use. You could live in the rv but as far as the county is concerned you live in the cabin. This would also give you a secured place for storage. Just another thought.

RE: Some changes at the gas pump through the years

My wifes Uncle owns an independent station here in TN that was a Texaco for years, Texaco would dictate gas prices and wanted more money for advertising and such so he went independent. He still has 2 racks to change oil, 2 full service pumps (no self serve) and a muffler rack. He checks the oil for the ladies and says "Thank ye" before you drive off. He'll plug a tire for you if you got a nail in it. His gas is always 10 to 12 cents higher but he does enough business I guess. I get gas there ever so often to help out (not in the motorhome 75 gallons adds up!) and there is always some older guy sitting out front on the glider to talk to. I ask him why he doesn't put self serve in and he always says the same thing...Then what would I do?

RE: Long Live the Twinkie

The sad part of the failure is that the Baker's Union (who failed to take a cut and were the cause of the failure), will receive un-employment benefits. They would rather receive unemployment (read government handout) than be guareenteed a job. Me, I'm calling my Congressmen (all 3), come Monday morning and register my complaint.
Story is the upper management gave themselves raises, some as big as 300%, and had stopped paying into the company funded pension fund (owed millions) and while cutting most of the health and welfare benefits for its employees they still enjoyed free benefits. After getting your pay cut to nothing, no benefits and no promised retirement left, not much to work for. Maybe the inner satisfaction of making twinkies wasn't enough.

RE: What's the problem with satellite TV service?

I have direct at the house, I take the receiver out of the bedroom (which is not HD) and place it in the fifth wheel. I have the Qube. I have traveled from the deep south to out west and north and have had no trouble. I just use the anntena for local channels
Same here except I have a crank up 18" dish. I take the bedroom receiver out to the motorhome, after arrival I hook it up and go into settings, select 18" round dish, point it in the right direction and fine tune it. I watch the locals on the Winegard regular crank up antenna (it gets the HD channels with no modifications but that another thread). Its a little work but I enjoy these types of things anyway and it only takes a few minutes really.

RE: Saves on Fuel and Increases Safety. Good Idea?

My 97 F53 has a O/D on off button, don't know if its exactly like a tow/haul button or not, I don't remember ever pushing it while driving.

No chance of that here!

RE: Alternate Air Conditioner Coolant Tip

One of my Dometic 15000 BTU ac/heat pumps stopped cooling. I called a local tech to take a look at it. He found that it had a leak in the cooling fins. We decided in lieu of buying a new unit to try a repair. He installed a puncture valve and used a vacuum pump to put a vacuum on the unit and then refilled it with automotive 134A that contained an anti-leak additive. Two days later the unit is now putting out colder air than before and the compressor is running cooler at 160 degrees. So the A/Cs will run on 134a car refrigerant? Hmm I always thought it would be house stuff. Nice to know :)

RE: Changing my mind from 4 down to dolly

What if you pull in somewhere and can't turn around? I've had to unhook, move toad, move dollie, move motorhome, use toad to move dollie to motorhome, reload toad. A real pain... only 4down for me.
Can't back a toad either, a few less steps but still work.
