South Carolina night stop-over recommendations

I will be traveling south on Route 85 and should be in South Carolina by late afternoon. Any recommendations for easy on and off RV camping for the night.

RE: Marker light hole repair on aluminum, How?

Fill the hole with JB Weld and re-drill. Another option is to use a plastic dry wall insert, the type used for hanging stuff on a wall. Just make sure to use plenty of sealant.

RE: Through Baltimore

One at Boyd's corner and a couple in Middletown DE. None on 301/50 from Delware to DC or Rt495 beltway.

RE: Through Baltimore

I agree that the eastern shore route is best. Better scenery and relaxed driving on Rt301. Several fast food stops and big WA WA gas in Middletown DE.

RE: 2006 2500HD Duramax

Good truck, mine is an LLY engine which now has 67K miles and coninues to improve especially with fuel economy. The only maintenance issue has been brakes with rust on the inside of the wheel rotors. Great truck for towing. These trucks appear to command high value, as new diesel trucks get more expensive.

RE: North Bend COE winter camping

The upper section of B loop is open with electricity. The cost is $10 drop box honor system.

RE: Tandem towing

Maybe Mobile Suites. I've seen cars towed behind those rigs.

RE: Tire blowout on 5er

I believe the "0808" means they were manufactured the 8th week in 2008, could be the first week in March. I replaced my Marathons with Cooper LT load rated E tires in a compatible size. Inflate to 80 psi and roll on. Shop your local tire dealers for their best deal.

RE: Corrugated plastic sheets for belly cover

I don't know about the shrinkage issue since I haven't had to pull it down and re-attach. Many sign shops use the same type material for a variety of cheap signs and they may be able to sell a short piece that can fill the gap you are dealing with.

RE: How Many Seniors are Out There Rving?

Mid sixties, you're just starting your next round of go-go years. Buy what you want and hit the road, there is a great group of campers out there waiting to hear your stories. We started a few years ago with a travel trailer, now have a 5th wheel. The future might hold another upgrade to go longer and further.

RE: Frig Question

Get a little electric fan that uses 12volts from your interior light and clips onto the refrigerator fins for ground. While operating it evaporates any frost/ice build-up. I use one and move from side-to-side on the fins when frost ice starts to build.

Woodrow Wilson Bridge I-95 & I-495 South

The following is posted on the Maryland SHA website: Major "Stay Away" Weekend on VA Beltway Inner Loop June 1-4 Weather permitting, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project has scheduled major work on the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) for the weekend of June 1-4 in order to complete paving of the final THRU lanes between U.S. Route 1 and Telegraph Road. The work will have significant traffic impacts, with backups expected well into Maryland. Motorists are strongly urged to consider alternate routes during the weekend to avoid significant delays. Details for the work are as follows: Beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, the THRU lanes of the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) were reduced to one lane between the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and Telegraph Road for allow for roadway construction. A temporary second LOCAL lane has been opened between U.S. Route 1 and Telegraph Road to ease traffic volumes; this temporary lane will be in place through the weekend until Monday morning, and require reduced speeds. Motorists are encouraged to use the Inner Loop LOCAL lanes Friday during the day. Beginning tonight, Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m., and through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 4, all access to the Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) THRU lanes from Maryland and from U.S. Route 1 in Virginia will be closed. The Inner Loop LOCAL exits to Pershing Avenue and Telegraph Road North will also be closed. Motorists on the LOCAL lanes traveling to the Eisenhower Valley should exit at the Eisenhower Connector and return on Eisenhower Avenue East. Once reopened the morning of June 4, the two new Inner Loop THRU lanes will be complete and in their final configuration, and work will transition to paving the Inner Loop LOCAL lanes. Only one Inner Loop LOCAL lane will be open in this corridor from June 4 until paving is complete July 2, restricting LOCAL lane traffic. Also, during this interval, motorists on the Inner Loop THRU lanes will not be able to exit at the Eisenhower Connector; travelers headed to Eisenhower Avenue will need to exit at the Van Dorn interchange. On July 2, all Inner Loop work (THRU and LOCAL) between Rt. 1 and the Eisenhower Connector will be complete, and the roadway will be in its final configuration of two THRU lanes and two LOCAL lanes.

RE: Trouble shooting brake problems

Sounds like the magnets are a problem. I just went through a wiring diagnosis because I had resistance somewhere an the brake wiring and losing about 4 volts. I eventually found that all 4 magnets were defective. Ohm reading of 5.5. Once I clipped the wiring at a magnet, I could test the voltage at the king pen (hitch) and see the voltage increased. I'm now in the process of replacing all brake magnets.

RE: Adding Detergent to Your Black Holding Tank

I use the GEO method in my black tank. A cup of liquid laundry soap helps to keep the tank clean. I also add two cups of soda Ash pre-mixed with one gallon of water; this helps make the water slippery (softer) so all the tank contents drain. I also add some of the soda Ash mixture to my gray tanks for the same reasons. Add the liquids before you hit the road so they have a chance to slosh around.

RE: Brake Voltage problem

Found the problem, 4 bad magnets, each reading 5.5 ohms. The bad magnet resistance pulled the voltage down approximately 4 volts regardless whether the brakes were activated by the brake controller or by activating the breakaway switch. I'm now in the process of installing new magnets for each wheel. For Someone having braking problems I suggest check out the magnets first.
