RE: What's in your tool box?

I carry only the basic hand tools but have found another tool that turned out to be very valuable. An online service that is something like $25 or 30 a year. Has already paid for itself. I had a mess going with my M/H. Couldn't get rid of a misfire. Doing research I found http://www.alldatadiy.com/index.html Dealer wanted $1,200.00. That wasn't going to happen. Took me full day and $170.00 in parts but found and fixed the problem. I've been afraid of the newer vehicles other than changing the oil type things because of their complexity. This on-line service has more than paid for itself first time. Being most of us travel with computer now days, this service in now included in my "toolbox". Even if you don't do the work yourself you can keep the mechanic somewhat honest. There are probably other services out there better, I'm not sure, but this one saved me a bunch of money.
Also I used to travel with a couple tool boxes. One Christmas was good to me and got one of those kits that hold tools in a plastic box. No longer sounds like a bucket of bolts going down the road. Really like tools in their own little cubby holes, much quieter.

RE: Digital Multimeters- An RVer's Best Friend

And can't beat the price when you get one free like I did last month from Harbor freight. Also last week and they had a coupon for another free one for Memorial day, if you pick up the coupon before. (Their way of getting you in store one more time I guess)The one free last month, I thought for free it wouldn't be very good. Measured 110 with good one and free one, same reading. I have 2 coupons in front of me right now if anybody with high-tech knowledge can show me how to send it over internet.

RE: Transport Companies

Call 425 485 0684 or 206 226 4485 and see if he is still hauling stuff around? He usually keep busy moving snowbirds up and down west coast. Haven't seen his truck in couple of years. Don't know if he moved on or moved to a different seasonal park. He is a retired truck driver that can't seem to get the "road out of his blood". I'm never going to steep on a truck side board again, but this guy lives for it.

RE: Our new camping spot

Some folks wanted porta potties but at a coat of $80 a month, we would lose money if we had no campers. We were thinking of charging $10 a day for camping this close to the trailhead. What do you think?
Great idea! (I'm just thinking as I type.)Don't overlook day use people. And what about the people that show up with a bike on top of car, what are they going to use for bathroom? What about people like wife and I? We don't bicycle but do enjoy watching little ones race at the SeaTac off road track (just north of runway). Good healthy fun for whole family. Honey buckets; what about buying a couple and servicing them yourselves? (Not a pleasant thought but maybe a lot cheaper). Wife and I don't make reservations, (we don't know where we'll be next week). Could we use your place as a back up?, when another campground is full? You could also use it for get togethers for club that have rv clubs? Eagles, elks etc, some have rv clubs that need larger spaces. We know one private campground that rents out entire one end for clubs/family re-unions.
NOW the sad part for todays society, how are you going to protect your self legal wise? Does zoning come into play? If you have to get a "county use permit" be glad your in a different county than King county. Complete zoo here.

RE: propane gas detector and plumbing vent

On the safe-t-alert question I had the same questions but couldn't get answers on sizes so I took out the old one and got replacement the same size to put back in existing hole. And I actually read the info sheet on new one, which said to the effect...good for five years from date of manufacture listed on back. Which was already 1 1/2 years old when I bought it "new". Which means replace date is not purchase date. Maybe you'll get lucky or ask for a "fresh" one.
On solar sewer pipe vent question. IMO anything solar that is $25.00 can't be that good.

RE: 5Watt solar panel - what else is it good for?

My 5 watt solar panel is zip tied to my a/c cover so it protects some of my a/c cover. Don't want to take off; a/c cover has farmer tan:)

RE: Rotating tires on a dually

How do you rotate the tires, or do you?
I don't because rotate I replace every 5 years, so I "time out" before I "mileage" out. That is only reason. If I put on more miles I would rotate per tire manufacturs guidelines.

RE: Can I Pick Your Brains About Smaller Class C's?

When we went from a large 5th wheel to small class C we realized their is a lot of stuff that we didn't need and also ran out of room quick. Now 2 years later we don't miss a thing. So much easier to park and get around. No more wondering if you'll fit or what the road is like.

RE: How much do you need?

Slow down...take a deep breath...relax... Take it out on your maiden voyage and keep a list of what you'll need for next time. The sewer hose I've used the most often is a real old shorty that only reaches from the sewer connection to about 3 inches into drain. Doesn't touch the ground or should I say where others have been or missed? Works great for dump sites, but not good for campsite hook ups. So the best sewer hose is not going to work all the time. Mostly likely will come with "starter pack" just a cheap package of water hose and other odds and ends. That will get you started, then as you see stuff that works and many people are using them, out it on your list. Do recommend starting a file with everything you get when you pick up rv. And download everything you can get on line in the way of service manuals and part numbers, they'll come in handy years from now, keep on thumb drive and master file at house.
You asked How much do you need? Enough for you to enjoy yourself. Of the RV's we've owned a little 20 footer we still talk about and the times we had in it.

RE: Well, my battery doesn't charge while plugged in

What I'm going to do is get a Black & Decker SMART 4/10/20/40 amp battery charger with 110 engine start. Recommend by somebody here and gets good reviews from others. Cheapest price I've found is Walmart at $99.99 Has smart charge technology which my RV does not have. Should be able to recharge in about 2 3/4 hours in my set up. And when the rv elec goes then I'll upgrade and leave it in garage. They have several models that all look the same but are different powers, so don't be fooled. Model I'm getting is vec1093dbd. I have to order one in, local store does have other models that are not as good. And more that once camping have been asked for battery cables or jump start. Just MO

RE: Majestic owners - check your cigarette lighter

Thanks for the heads up on fuse. I also changed my plugs today. What a hassle, if I still have it the next 70,000 miles I'm paying to have it done. Book calls for 2.90 hours but sometimes they break a few plugs depending on what year you have. Both my "power port" and cig lighter work. Maybe I lucked out on mine. I changed the rear end grease and it was almost new but still put in new. Still over $100.00 bill doing it myself. Royal purple 75w-140 is 20.00 a quart! Clue to the newer diff oil was newer gasket stuff and a brand new shiny axle tube. And noticed the rubber bushing for the sway bar was not put back on after axle tube replacement. And something I have been putting off is a coolant change and I understand that is real important for the triton type design engines. That will be next.
You said I will be looking to buy a cigarette lighter dummy plug to protect the socket. I have found a new use for mine. I saw a cheap (under $10.00) a gadget that plugs into lighter socket and gives a reading if alternator is charging and condition of chassis battery, just little LED lights and sticks out about 2 inches but what a perfect knob to hang the litter bag on.http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-battery-alternator-tester-66842.html Read the reviews, seems pretty good for price.
Thanks again

RE: Most reliable connector. semi 7 pin or RV blade ?

http://www.hella.com/MicroSite/soe/sites/default/files/downloads/J00271_Elekt_Steckverbindungen_EN_HKG.pdf
Some really good stuff here (and page runs slow) but to me it boils down to making a connection and conducting elec. Stop in at 2 or 3 auto part stores and see what you can buy off the shelf. What you find on the shelf will be what 90 percent of public is buying.

RE: Most reliable connector. semi 7 pin or RV blade ?

Had both. Being a truck driver I got tired of the "rv quality" and got the real . Took out license plate light and punched hole a little bigger (lic plate has 2 lights). Used for several years then noticed the "rv quality" plastic female end was getting chewed up by the truck style due to plastic into alum sockets and I think the real stuff has more of a spring on the flap door. When the pig tail gave out I went also went to the real thing on trailer cord. Worked great again for several years. Then one day my pick up truck broke down along side the road(water pump) and had to have pick up towed. Towing company would tow truck and trailer for what ever reason. Had to disconnect. The tow truck came back for the trailer he could not plug in the truck style into his socket. And he didn't have long enough cord for his magnet tail lights. We had to rent motel for one day until water pump was fixed. And the hole time we're worrying about our trailer being smashed along side the road.
So my advice is whatever you do make sure it is universal so anybody can plug elec cord in case somebody has to tow your rig for some reason.
After that I made up adapters that would fit just about anything, in case I ever needed a tow again or could tow other trailers if need be.

RE: Poulsbo RV

That is where I buy my parts sometimes. I think you'll find pluses and not so good with them or any dealer. Wife likes to go with me to "window shop" while I'm getting parts. And not uncommon for her to find something that she has to show me... In a nut shell, I think they are like any other vehicle dealer. Trying to put a good smilely face on anything they have for sale. They have spent time trying to make some rigs look good. IE.. trying the best they can to hid stuff just like other dealers. If your serious about buying, to keep on track, I would bring a check list with you so you don't fall in love. If you don't know already call them today and see what type of running gear rv has and do some research on known problems on the engine or manufacture etc. And Remember date codes on tires for age.
Don't fall in love; there all wobbley boxes on wheels.

RV covers

This time of year many are removing their covers. Anybody notice any problems with chaffing or rub marks? Any brands to recommend or stay away from? Anybody put swimming noodles(or something)along the top to prevent damage? I'm thinking about getting one for next winter.
